  1. I don't currently have any firm plans for December so either weekend will work for me. And, I might be able to do something NC comiccon weekend and on the 19th. I'll be attending 2 Thanksgivings this year on different days so I'll make time for more work outs.
  2. That makes complete sense I just forgot to change it on my calendar. Luckily, facebook is smarter than me (sometimes), and had the right date I'll still be coming tomorrow, and I'll remember my yoga mat!
  3. Whoops, definitely didn't realize the date was changed to Sunday. Good thing I noticed before I left work!
  4. I defnintely forgot to bring a towel or yoga mat to work with me, but I did remember workout clothes so I'm still coming! Hopefully the grass is fairly even and dry Looking forward to meeting everyone!
  5. I'm up for anything but i'm relatively new so I may have to modify when needed. This sounds like a good plan. I've never been to the park there but it probably has decent parking. Should we have an alternate rain location?
  6. I wasn't planning on going to the cosplay convention but we can meet outside of it if other people are. I'm working 9am-1pm that Saturday but otherwise I'm free. Looking forward to meeting some new people!
  7. Thank you so much for the tips! I primarily swim freestyle and breaststroke with a little bit of backstroke dropped in. Backstroke isn't really my favorite though. When I was at the pool today I tried to be mindful but I found myself having to reset my form after every breath. I'll work on rotating more in freestyle (I thought I was rotating enough but it's entirely possible I'm not) and the hesitation drill sounds perfect for that. It looks like I need to do some core strengthening on land as well. I'll definitely try some of these drills next time I go to the pool
  8. Thank you for your long and thoughtful post I'm going to take a few of your suggestions. I already downloaded a sleep cycle app that is supposed the wake you up when you're not in deep sleep. I'm definitely talking to my doctor about it on Tuesday and getting a real opinion. I'll have to look in to the vitamin D as well. I spend most of my time indoors. All my exercise activities are also indoor activities. I should probably start taking a supplement for it since most of the year it is either too hot or too cold for me to make myself go outside if I don't need to. Thank again!
  9. So, a couple days ago I slept 13 hours straight without waking up when my alarm didn't go off. I was finally woken up by a phone call from my boss seeing if I was okay. I'd gone to bed at midnight, and slept until 1:29pm. Even factoring in a half hour to fall asleep, that is a long time. I've always been someone who needs an alarm to wake up on time, but this felt more like a wake up call. Both my parents have sleep apnea and it's been proven to run in families. I'm only 27 but according my research that doesn't really matter. I'm overweight, but I don't smoke or sleep on my back. I sleep alone so I don't know if I snore. I didn't used to, but who knows? I've been tired since middle school. I've never been a morning person. If I could take a nap every day I would. I always assumed this was depression and anxiety related, but what it's the other way around? So, I'm tentatively diagnosing myself with sleep apnea. I have a doctor's appointment next week. It's an annual pap smear but I'm definitely going to be asking about this as well. I'd like to get a sleep study but I don't know if my insurance will cover it (I have the cheapest healthcare.gov plan). Does anyone else have experience with sleep apnea? Tips and tricks?
  10. I get most of my books from the library, but I'm a librarian, so... I have been known to buy a book later if I loved it. Like, the kind of love where you hug the book when you're done and think about it randomly and talk it up to people for weeks to months after you return it. For my part, I still feel like I support authors because I participate in the collection development at my library. I'm still buying books, just not with my own money From the standpoint of supporting an author borrowing a library book is better than getting a book used. Authors don't get any portion of used book sales but the more a book circulates at a library the more likely it will be replaced if it disappears/gets damaged/wears out. Also, most libraries have a system where you can request that they purchase a book. It's not instantaneous so there's no instant gratification, but if money is tight you could try that or interlibrary loan. I got rid of a bunch of books when I moved. It was hard, but for the most part I don't miss them. And, I can always get another copy if I really need to.
  11. That's really interesting, especially since the book didn't mention Disneyland at all that I remember. Let me know what you think of the book. Also, YAY for using the library!!! *I am a librarian
  12. I always found group classes intimidating so kudos to you for doing it!
  13. I just finished reading The Dorito Effect by Mark Schatzker. A couple months ago I read Bread, Wine, Chocolate: The Slow Death of Foods We Love by Simran Sethi. Both of them talk about the state of flavor in our food today. I liked Simran Sethi's book better. I felt the writing was better and, well, I'm more interested in chocolate than chicken. Bread, Wine, Chocolate went more in depth with specific foods which gave a more complete picture of that food. I am now buying the more expensive, fancier, coffee after reading her book. I felt morally obligated since I can afford that indulgence once or twice a month, but I'm also being rewarded with coffee that I truly enjoy the taste of and I only add a tiny bit of sugar and no cream at all. Previously, I was adding 2-3 teaspoons of sugar per cup (I know, but I've seen the light!). I bought a coffee grinder and I grind it fresh in the morning. I've turned in to one of those people who can't find coffee I'm willing to pay for at the grocery store. Single origin, light roast, or bust. I also felt that Schatzker had a bit of an elitist tone running through his book, though he tried to hide it. Nonetheless he made some good points, and I find myself wondering where I can get heirloom chicken locally. I'm curious as to how much better I might find it. I'm not paleo, but I do try to eat better food when I can afford it. Has anyone else read this two books? Any opinions to share?
  14. Hmmmm, I wonder what the other six kinds of dance are... Getting in the pool right now isn't so bad, but I am wondering how I'll handle it come winter time. I live in North Carolina. My tolerance for cold is very limited. I'm hoping the fact that the pool is heated (though, obviously still cooler than your body) will help. When I was on swim team as a kid we practiced in an outdoor pool that wasn't heated and I remember those terrible mornings. Thank you for the welcome!!!
  15. Hello everyone! Does anyone have any recommendations for good, comfortable dancing shoes? My feet are ever so slightly pigeon-toed and I would like some arch support. I've spent hours trying on shoes at my local stores and found nothing that meets my requirements (has the have a bottom that can make turns on the dance floor, and a strap at the ankle so my foot doesn't move inside the shoe, as well as a closed heel, and preferably a closed toe). I'm taking a Brazilian Zouk class right now and I'm dancing either in socks or sneakers, neither of which is ideal. I'm willing to pay more for a good pair of shoes, I just need to find them. Help!
