  1. Absolutely beautiful day yesterday. 55+ and sunny. Perfect for another outside run. 3.13 miles in 39 minutes. Run pace of 11:14/mi, so just about the same as the last run. I'd be pretty happy if I ran the full 5k at that pace, around 35 minutes.
  2. Hey Hammlin... guess it's been six weeks already!?!?! Didn't realize another challenge was already about to start. I'll probably join in :-D. Here's the report from yesterday, which just happens to have been my birthday It was a pretty ugly day around here, misting and around 40 again, but I got outside for another run anyway, and made it the complete 28 minutes. Not the easiest of runs, but a faster pace than before and another completed run, so I'm thrilled. 3.09 miles in 38 minutes. Run pace 11:13/mi. Getting much closer to my treadmill pace, which is kinda exciting. Had one splash of soda in a drink last night, and have some guys coming over to play poker today, so I'll probably have a drink or two today as well. I haven't had any soda that wasn't as an add-on to an alcoholic beverage I was drinking socially, so I'm really happy with that progress too. Goal was just to cut down, and since I've basically cut it out of the diet, I'm cool with that. Next run is Sunday. I'll check in either then or Monday, and see what I can come up with as goals for the next challenge. Oh... and since this one is ending, I'll have to actually sign up for that 5k to hit my goal. Guess I'll do that tonight or tomorrow :-D.
  3. Much better run today. Repeated the same day of C25K (Week 7 Day 3), and made it all the way through. I forgot to pack my running shoes in my gym bag, so had to wait until I got home. Ended up running on the late side last night, in sub-40 (F) temperatures for the first time. Made it 2.95 miles in 37 minutes, with an average run pace of 11:29/mile. I'm pretty pleased with that. On to the next day.
  4. Not so good today. Couldn't make it through the run. Another outside run, weather was a little colder. Made it about 12 minutes. After that it was off and on running / walking. I'll have to repeat this one on Wednesday. At least I got out there to run, but I'm not too happy with it.
  5. True 18... what I should have explained was that I usually run on the treadmill at work on Fridays. I still had to work, just from home, where there was no treadmill. The good news took care of that, though :-D.
  6. So today was a day of good news / bad news. Bad news: Wife's car wouldn't start, so I didn't go in to work. Good news: Weather was nice enough to get outside for another run Bad News: Screwed up with the app, and had to re-set Good News: Ran about 31 minutes straight Total: 3.47 miles in 44 minutes. Run pace was 11:54/mi, so about 5mph. Significantly slower than my treadmill pace, but I made it 31 minutes. Screw pace :-D. Felt like I could have run the full 5k today if I needed to. May need to move more runs to outside... it felt great! Just not sure I'm confident enough to run in any weather yet, so it may be a bit weather dependent.
  7. Week 7 begins. Pretty rough run yesterday, but I did make it through it all. Had to drop down to 5.3 for part of the last 5 mintues. 3.02 miles total. 5 min warmup @ 3.6 20 min run @ 5.5 3 min walk @ 3.0 5 min run @ 5.5 / 5.3 5 min cooldown Lung capacity was an issue here. I'm hoping it was just situational due to the 3 day lay-off and a busy day. Next run is 26 minutes straight. Not sure how I'll handle that one. If I need to, I'll just repeat this run a few times to build up. Still moving along.
  8. Yesterday's run went really well... 2.42 miles 5 min warmup @ 3.6 20 min run @ 5.5 cooldown 20 minutes straight about 1.8 miles run... that's the first time in quite a while I've run a mile. Wednesday is 20 run, 3 walk, 5 run... should be pretty close to 5k total, but the goal is to run 5k straight. We're getting there...
  9. Really didn't feel like running today, but alas... it's a scheduled run day, and I'm determined not to miss any of those just 'cause I don't feel like it. Made it through the run, but the last 3 minutes was rough. Side sticker again. Really wish I could get past these things and just run :-D. It definitely concerns me for the longer runs without walking. Warmup - 5 min walk @ 3.6 10 min run @ 5.5 3 min walk @ 3.0 10 min run @ 5.5 (dropped to 5.4 with the sticker... figured better to slow down and still complete the run than have to pause or walk). Cooldown Total: 2.55 miles in 33 minutes. Each of the 10 minute runs was about 1 minute short of a full mile. Not too bad. Still haven't had any sodas, and should have the fundage to register for that 5k in the next few weeks.
  10. Your regularly scheduled Wednesday run will not be seen this week due to family obligations. It has been replaced by a special Tuesday Run. Week 6 Day 1 - 2.21 miles in 29 minutes Warmup 5 min (3.6) Run 8 min (5.5) Walk 3 min (3.2) Run 8 min (5.5) Cooldown This one felt pretty darn good. Sticker tried to push its way in with about 3 minutes to go or so, but I made it through without too much trouble, and probably could have gone longer if needed. Thursday or Friday will be the next run, which I think is 10run-3walk-10run. Current run pace is 10:54 / mile, so I'm pretty close to running a mile straight, which for me is a pretty nice accomplishment. Progress feels really good. I'm no longer so worried about upping pace since I'm now significantly upping run time. Once that settles down, and I'm at a steady time, I'll worry more about pace. Still been really good about soda, other than the one during the superbowl haven't had any :-D. Progress, progress, progress.
  11. Thanks! Link fixed. Have to send that one in to Steve and his guys, since I just copy / pasted that. I'll be signing up in the next week or two, depending on when proper funds are available :-D.
  12. Heh... syllables. I sit at a computer typing for a living. A few extra words / syllables don't really bother me :-D. Had an alcoholic beverage with soda tonight... first in a good long while. Feels good that it's been that long, and that I'm doing it only as a choice, not a necessity. Next run isn't till Wednesday. Also looks like I may have found my 5k... http://www.knockoutcancer5k.org/KnockoutCancer5K.org/HOME.html. Haven't signed up yet, but I think I will. My wife may actually sign up to walk it with my daughter in the stroller :-D.
  13. Run today want pretty well. 2.53 miles in 33 minutes. All runs @ 5.5. Warmup walk @ 3.6, in between @ 3.2 5 min Warmup 7 min run 2 min walk 5 min run 2 min walk 7 min run Little side sticker too, but not so bad. Rich
  14. Ok... all done. Better than Wednesday... I made it through all three runs (6min, 4min, 6min with 1 min breaks between). Ran everything at 5.5, a little slower than I've been running the shorter intervals, and walked at 3.0 to give myself more real recovery. Total of 2.1 miles including warmup + cooldown. Still got a side-sticker about halfway through the last run, but was able to push through it and make it all the way. Probably need to work on hydrating more before my runs to help with the side-sticker, since lung capacity wasn't really that big an issue. Wasn't great, but wasn't that bad. I'll move on to the next run (w5d3) on Sunday. That's 7-5-7... should be interesting.
  15. Ok... off we go to re-try the run from Wednesday. Going to cut down the speed a little bit, and I'll let you all know how it goes. Really hoping to make it all the way through the runs.
