  1. Fluidity is really more strength training than I was anticipating. I have yoga and ballet-specific flexibility exercises that I will start to incorporate the next go-round. The beginning aerial class that I want to take starts every 8 weeks and I'd like to start it in January.
  2. Last week was hit and miss. I only got to work out once last week, but it was the first week of class, so I parked on the roof of the parking structure and walked the 8 flights of stairs twice for four days straight so I got some activity in. My pop goal went great for all but one day and I had mackerel and asparagus for dinner last Friday and loved it. I'm so, so, so close to completing my Sofia the First pattern. I've got the pattern pieces now, I just need to sew up the sample dress, take the pics and write out the instructions.
  3. So, time for an update... I've been doing really well with my pop intake. I was very proud of myself to have tea while I was on campus yesterday instead of my usual two or three bottles. I was even more proud of myself for going to Whole Foods Market for chicken, asparagus and red potatoes for dinner between classes instead of the (all-too convenient) McDonald's. It wasn't exactly Paleo, but it certainly curbed the desire to snack. I'm still trying to come up with my first Paleo meal... any suggestions from the peanut gallery?
  4. I'm a huge carb person myself. My goal is to try out a Paleo meal a week to see if I like it (read: sustain it) before going full-on. There are a few people that have talked about doing Paelo during the week and having "breaks" on the weekends to allow for dinner plans, etc. I have come across recipes for bread using almond flour.
  5. Thanks QoB. Let me know how it goes so I know what I'm getting myself into lol
  6. I know about a love of cheese and all things pasta... that is one reason I wanted to start with a meal a week. It gives me a chance to try recipes and see if it's really something that I could maintain for a long time without having to throw out everything in the cupboards and spend a fortune on groceries. Honestly, I'm not much of a cook, but it is something that I want and need to work on.
  7. You got that right about the easy ones! I'm starting off with one Paleo meal a week this challenge to start off slowly and I'll step it up the next challenge
  8. Great job so far! How are you working on Spanish? Are you taking a class or doing it on your own?
  9. I don't have a blog right now. I do have a facebook page for my stuff- it's Vintage Rose Patterns. I just started a few weeks ago, so not much is in there yet. I did create an album for my Marie costume if you want to check it out I didn't mention it in the description, but the whole thing started with curtains and upholstery remnant I found at Goodwill for $20.
  10. It is one of those infomercial-type things. I got it a few years ago and it's been sitting forlornly in my closet. It comes with a collapsable ballet bar and three levels of workouts. I think you can purchase more dvd's, but I haven't been to the website lately. I did my first workout Friday night and I still feel it in a few areas. It's not really what I expected. I thought that it would be more like Pilates (I guess some movements are), but its really just small movements that use your bodyweight. It doesn't look or sound like it's too difficult, but I was dripping sweat by the end of the 30 minutes!
  11. I've wanted to skydive forever. This spring maybe...
  12. I'm starting by doing Fluidity three times per week and I'm doing a paleo meal once per week
  13. It's funny you mention that Gneiss. Acting is my big ultimate goal I have been sewing since I was eight. I have sewed just about anything: costumes, bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses...my favorite was a full Marie Antoinette gown (complete with pocket hoops) that took me six weeks to make. I have a grand idea for a *ahem* Mad Hatter costume that I wanted to make for Halloween this year but I think it may be too much to accomplish before then. I'm going to make it for Emerald City Comic Con instead. My process is: 1) draft the pattern 2) make the muslin (mock-up) 3) create the template 4) sew the sample (taking pictures throughout the process) My patterns aren't quite like the ones you buy in the store. You might need to google 'The Golden Rule' for a visual (I reverse-engineered the process), but what I do is mark points along the pattern from a center point that people can use to create the pattern to their own measurements. It makes it easy to make a pdf that people can download instead of a physical pattern with set sizing. Mad Hatter, if you want to make a costume, let me know- I try to be very instructive The Fluidity bar I got off an infomercial a few years ago. I ended up getting P90X before it arrived and never got around to using it. The bar is about 3 or 4 feet across and stretches out maybe 6 feet total. Folded up it doesn't take up much space at all. The exercises are hard to explain. Think squats for every muscle group. It's a lot of controlled, small movements. It took a lot more than I thought it would.
  14. BTW- I did the Fluidity exercise for the first time last night- HOLEY COW! I was expecting yoga-like exercises but I was lobster-red and sweating like a madwoman even though I wasn't doing (what seemed like) a whole lot. I must confess, my abs hurt a bit this morning.
