  1. I had never heard of bullet journalling before, googled it, and wow, so pretty ^^ I like writing to-do lists and plans down on paper, and I've often tried to come up with some sort of system to keep goals, habits, to-dos and calendar type plan things together, but never really managed to make it click. I will definitely be trying this! Thanks for making this post I'd love to see pics of yours!
  2. Hi ^^ Thanks! I'm glad to hear you think my goals are good
  3. Thursday Went for a 6 km walk. Ate badly for most of the day: had croissant with jam, a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast, and some bread. For supper I ate well tho, cooked chicken and veggies. Did some school work for about 2-3 hours. Not great, but more than I have been doing recently. Drank plenty of water. Friday Did not go for a run, felt like my legs needed rest, should have gone for a walk tho. Had fruit juice (kiwi, strawberry & apple), but then just cake… Slept, wasted time online and watched TV for most of the day… Saturday Woke up early and did schoolwork for about 4 hours Had Skyr (good!) and cookies (bad..) for breaksfast. Went for a little walk, around 2 km probably. Had a burger and fries for lunch… Cooked veggies for supper Did laundry Went for a jog/walk, 2.74km in 27 min. Feel like the last two days could have been better, but I’m quite happy with today Now I’m going out to celebrate Star Trek’s birthday
  4. So... A battle log, here it goes... I joined the rebellion 5 years ago, but I didn't stick around for long. Since then I've browsed the forums once in a while and made umpteen attempts at building better habits, getting healthier and fitter. It's time for a new attempt - and this time I'm making battle logs about it : ) Probably not daily, but at least weekly. I am doing this because: - I want to be healthy. - I want to be able to go on adventures without my lack of fitness causing me to worry about wether I'll be able to do and/or enjoy the things I want to do. - I want to have more energy and to use my energy for doing things I enjoy. - I want to have an easier time shopping for clothes. - I want to be more confident. Some health habit goals for the next 6 weeks: - Go for a walk/jog every other day, for 30 min. How: exercise clothes always ready by the bed, as well as music. Also allotting plenty of time after the run for a looong relaxing shower. - Eat a healthy breakfast: Skyr, eggs or vegetables, but not cereal or bread. How: Deciding what breakfast will be the day before, as well as washing up before going to bed so everything is nice and clean for getting breakfast ready. - Drink at least 2 litres of water, spread out through the day. How: Have my water-bottle with me everywhere I go. - Eat a healthy supper: not primarily based on simple carbs such as pasta, potatoes or bread, but with various vegetables/eggs/meat/fish. How: Deciding in the morning what supper will be and make sure I have everything needed. Also, a simple but challenging goal for this semester: - Turn in all assignments on time, but not worry about quality - just turn it in and let it go. How: Reminding myself that what matters is to finish, and that how I do these assignments does not define me. Here are some longer term epic goals - Run 5 K - Run 10 K - Do a Pull up - Go down to size 14UK (I'm currently 18-20) My journey started on Monday when I went for my first walk/jog for a very long time (2,7km in 30 min). I went again today - yay! I did also have ok supper for the last two nights but poor breakfast... Now I'm gonna go and cook some supper, I'll check in again two days from now - after my next walk/jog.
  5. concretecavewoman: Why december? If you like christmas its should be the perfect month to come here because Icelanders love christmas and usually make a big deal out of it. Christmas lights, Christmas baking, Christmas lads, Christmas concerts, Christmas buffets and other christmas traditions are all over the place! :Þ
  6. Its kinda difficult for me to explain in english, but I'll give it a try In icelandic we call what I'm studying Þjóðfræði and in english its called both ethnology and folkloristic. Þjóðfræði is very much related to anthropology but not the same thing. Þjóðfræði is everything that is ,,traditional", its about everything we learn informally rather than from formal institutions. Humor, food, folktales, pranks, wedding traditions, material culture (houses, clothes etc.), superstitions, songs, holidays and celebrations is all examples of what a folklorist can research. Its about social relations and all the things we learn through them. Groups is a big thing, as in studying the folklore of a certain group, the groups can vary in size and either be high context or low context, it can be a nation, a club, a certain profession such as pilots or even a small group of friends. Every group has their own folklore You can find þjóðfræði in almost anything, Star Trek for example is not þjóðfræði but the cult, games and traditions around it is.
  7. hehe Fortunately I do not live in Niflheimur But I can see why you thought of that cold and horrible place
  8. The first film I thought of after reading this post was ,,Tomorrow when the War comes". A surprisingly good film and makes me want to be more awesome and be able to deal with things if everything goes wrong in the world Usually books have more influence on me than films tho, for example LOTR, Harry Potter and The book thief. Most books where normal people either deal with extreme things like saving the world or simply stand up for themselves and other people. Another book that influenced me greatly is Momo by Michael Ende.
  9. Thats a very good and fun question! I think it simply depends on what world or myth the vampire belongs too I'd think that alcohol, weed etc. shouldn't have much affect on them, perhaps some but not to the same extend as on humans But if weed, alcohol etc. does affect them, then I guess they would get high or drunk after drinking blood from a person who was drunk or high I'd guess Twilight vampires would not be affected but Buffy world vampires might, I think in the books ,,Succubus" it does affect the vampires to some level but I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly. I haven't read many vampire books or watched many films about vampires so I don't know about other world.
  10. Thanks! Yeh, got some goals set for 1.march,when I've reached them I hope to have a better idea of what I want and what is realistic so I can set some more precise and longer term fitness goals I've also set myself some life goals like traveling more and enhancing my knitting and filleting skills On 1st of march the goal is to be able to do what I remember doing regularly at the gym about 2 years ago : 15 bakæfingar without stopping. (sorry, no idea what this is in english) 15 sit ups without stopping. 15 push ups without stopping. (on my knees not toes) 1 km. in 10 minutes. I'm not going for any specific diet but I am changing it and keeping a record of it. Eating more fruit and vegetables, fish oil every morning, more water, less bread etc. Things like soda, candy and french fries are only allowed twice a week. Instead of having a ,,cheat day" like I've noticed a lot of people do I'm allowing myself two cheats a week. For example having soda and candy at the cinema would count as two cheats because those are two separate things I'm using the blog here to keep a track of it all and that really helps me to avoid making up stupid excuses for not doing what I'm supposed to ! What kind of a report? Well as long as you know that we don't have penguins, don't live in igloos and its not always like -30°C then thats very good!
  11. I cant say I have travelled much but I noticed you mentioned sheep herding in New Zealand If you want to have adventures involving agriculture, sheep herding and such, then I'd recommend checking out www.wwoof.org Lots of different countries, flexible, not expensive and endless possibilities Also, if you go to europe you should consider a stopover in Iceland! its not tropical (obvious), doesn't really have historical buildings but it does have lots of mountains, glaciers and other hiking opportunities, also partying, culture and loads of swimming pools and hot springs!
  12. Halló I'm 22 years old, live in Iceland and am in my first year of university, studying Folkloristics oh and I'm a girl About a month ago I noticed that my oldest sister had posted a link to this page on her facebook page. It was a link to the article about leveling up in life just like in computer games and even tho I don't play computer games much I did relate to it. I started to read more and I just love the attitude and the 11 rules. So a week ago I joined I dont know if I count as a nerd... I don't play computer games much and I prefer them to be old and simple, Sonic, The lost vikings and Jack the Jazz rabbit are games that I like I have done some pen and paper role playing but I'm not really a fan and even tho I occasionally do play Risk and other strategic games I prefer simple, short and fun board games like actionary. I do like Star Wars but couldn't tell you much about it or its universe, same goes for Star Trek and Firefly. My sisters, brother in law and also my flatmates do count as nerds tho so I am very familiar with many ,,nerd" things, like warhammer, wow, SCA (medieval thingy) and various role playing systems. On fitness and why I'm here! I've always been chubby and been getting more so in the last years. I've been going between 14 and 16 in clothes for the last 6 years, whenever I wasn't fitting so well into my 16 (uk size) jeans I'd start going to the gym and eating healthier but that didn't last long each time. I've usually been okay with my body and been able to do what I want, but in the last half a year I've been gaining more and more weight In december I realized that I am the biggest I've ever been and what I find worse: I'm in a terrible shape and its hindering me in going on hikes and other things I like doing. So now I've joined the rebellion and am going to work hard to get healthier and fitter
