  1. Hey everyone. Not sure what decision to make. I have kettlebells in my townhome. I'm having a hard time between picking a pull up tower for $150 from Amazon or joining a gym that's close to me. How close you ask? I can walk from my townhome and be at the gym in 2 minutes and that's walking. This gym next to my townhome is EOS Fitness Other gym is 7 to 10 minutes from my townhome by driving there. This gym further away is Planet Fitness. Both gyms are open 24/7 which I need right now. Both gyms cost $10 a month and a annual fee. I think close to $50 annual fee. I don't know if I'll be moving later this year to a smaller space or a bigger space. Don't want to buy the pull up tower and have to sell it 7 months later. Want to keep it for decades. Want my 2 sons to use the pull up tower years in the future too. Sad to say but I want them to be strong when they get to junior high and defend themselves against any bullies. You never know unfortunately. Door frames are not strong enough for pull up bars either. Had my contractor friend tell me that when I had a small party before Covid. Thanks for any good feedback.
  2. I live in a small apartment. No room for big gym equipment. I do have three kettlebells though. That I've gotten over the years. I own a 35 pounds, 53 pounds and 70 pounds kettlebell. I did want to get a door frame pull up bar but the door frames in my apartment and would break. So that's a no go. Also the landlord visited my apartment and said no way. I do have a gym membership but a lot of times get sleepy and go to bed. I play with my 3 year old son pretty much every night. He's a night owl. :-) I'm a total fitness and gym newb. So when I do make the time to go to the gym. I look around and don't know what the hell I'm doing. LOL I do recognize a few machines and the weights but that's it. You're probably thinking I should get a personal trainer. I wish I could. No money for a personal trainer. I have talked to them before and they want at least a $150 a month! The reason I own kettlebells is because I was very motivated to do Simple and Sinister. But it doesn't give me the goals I have in mind. I hope I'm wrong when it comes to Simple and Sinister. If you're wondering my goals. I just want to look in the mirror and see a very defined six pack and be ripped all over. Also be very strong. It doesn't matter how long it takes me. I just want to obtain that awesome six pack. About me I'm 35 years old, 5'7" tall, currently weigh 180 pounds. Goal weight is 135 to 150 pounds but ripped. I have the skinny fat physique and I hate it. I see my old pictures and see a very defined jaw line and I could see my Adam's apple! I want to see that again! I understand it's more what you eat than anything. I have that under control. I have begun eating a Ketogenic diet. I've already lost some weight. Before I ate this way I was 185 pounds. If I have to sacrifice some sleep to hit the gym. I'm okay with that. But don't know where to begin with my fitness journey. Any other busy dads like me that were in my situation and how did you solve it? Hope someone here can help. Thank you.
  3. Thank you for the reply. Regarding your question. I'm open to anything that would produce the results I want. I don't care if it's kettlebells, bodyweight, barbell, etc. A mixture of anything is okay with me. As long as that I will be stronger and look good when I go swimming. My diet is squared away. So no problems with diet. You're right about the structured programme. I'm glad I posted my question here.
  4. First of all. Thank you for everyone that provides me good solid advice. I do have a gym membership. I had to get a gym membership. I don't have the space for big equipment in my small apartment. I do own two kettlebells though. 16kg and a 24 kg. Not sure about kettlebells though. I have hardly seen any pictures of people that are shredded from using kettlebells. I hope I'm wrong though. Thinking of selling them. I'm on my way to weight loss. I have cleaned up my diet. I would rather look good in my swim trunks and be stronger than enjoy a big mac, fries and a drink followed by blizzard at Dairy Queen. lol I digress. I want to workout. But I don't like logging my workouts. I want to workout INTENSELY. I want results. If there is no way around it. I will log my workouts and what I did. Since now it's almost summer time. I really want that six pack. I've NEVER had a six pack. No money for a personal trainer. I really wish though. They are so much money. I just want to look for the summer and year round. Also keep up with my 3 year old son. I don't want that dad bod. If you're wondering about me. I'm not a big guy. 5'7" tall, 170 pounds, 35 years old. My extra weight has gone to my head and my gut. I also want to be strong for my semi physical job. I'm asking this because I am so confused about so many workout programs out there. It's overwhelming!
  5. 1.How long did it take for your body to adjust? 2.Do you eat anything small or drink coffee/tea to suppress your appetite? 3. Why are you eating one meal a day? 4. How do you deal with the naysayers? I've had a few co-workers tell me it's really unhealthy. I just smile and sip my diet pepsi. 5. Has eating one meal a day affected your social life? If so how? 6. How has one meal a day made you feel after your body has adjusted? 7. Do you work a physically demanding job? How do you cope with the job and eating one meal a day? I ask these questions because I will go back to eating one meal a day. I have been eating two meals a day. I have started tapering it off with eating a few slices of bacon and drinking water. I hope someone here can help answer my questions.
  6. Keep in mind that I want to be ripped. I've begun eating Paleo and feel a lot better. Although it's very hard for me right now because of my cravings. I have a pull up/dip station in my house. What I'm doing is called the Ten Sets of Hell. It's 10 rounds of 10 pushups 10 pullups or chin ups 10 dips 10 squats I would add more sets or buy a weight vest when I get good enough to complete all 10 rounds. I do this 3 times a week. I do Kettlebell swings and burpees twice a week. Usually Tuesdays and Thursdays. What do you think? Good idea or bad idea for my goals?
  7. @ Leiman: Thank you for the very informative reply. I am looking into purchasing the Rebel Strength Guide. Thank you again I will gladly take your advice. Also to others about CC. I will sell this book. I have hardly read the book. My doubts are confirmed. @Waldo: Well I think I'm starting a job soon. Just waiting on the background check. Anyways I will be unloading semi trailers. Some of the cargo are 100 pound boxes. Some of the loads are not on wooden palettes. When I do that now I'm out of breath and struggle lifting those boxes. That is one way how I will define strong.
  8. As I type this my P90X DVD's are collecting dust. I just hate the time commitment for P90X. I was thinking of joining Crossfit because having a personal trainer and being in a group will motivate me. It's also less time than P90X. Since my wife is pregnant and the baby due next year March 31st. No funds for Crossfit. Also I am looking for a new job so that puts a damper on joining Crossfit. Been saving money for emergencies and the baby coming. With so many workout programs out there. It's hard to pick one. Here are the ones I have looked at and in no particular order: 1. Nerd Fitness: Rebel Strength guide 2. SimpleFit 3. P90X 4. Convict Conditioning 5. Doing Bodyweight only inspired Crossfit workouts 6. Strong Lifts 7. Starting Strength 8. You are your own gym These are my goals. FYI: I am just now starting eating Paleo based foods. Been eating like that for a couple of weeks. 1. Lose 30 pounds of fat. (I understand this is mostly diet) 2. Be strong. I want to be freak of nature strong. 3. Fast results 4. Able to have great stamina 5. Not a requirement but it will be a nice bonus to obtain that ripped body. I do have a pull up/dip station here at my house and a set of adjustable dumbbells. I like having a workout program that has a set plan and has good scaling workouts. Not that creative enough and very new to fitness that I won't be able to create my own workout routine. I'm hoping to get some help on these forums. Just looking for advice and suggestions. Thanks for reading.
  9. I'm actually thinking of buying Rebel Strength guide. NerdFitness founder Steve told me it has bodyweight workout routines from beginner to advanced. My other option is join a Crossfit Gym. There is one ten minutes from my house. That's the kind of gym I want to join.
  10. What is the six week challenge and where can I find more information about it?
  11. Hello all! I'm very excited to have found this website. Kudos to Steve for creating Nerd Fitness. When I first met my wife I think I was around 144 pounds. I have not increased in height but now I weigh 183 pounds. It's not a pretty sight without my shirt off let's just say. I started here from making really bad food choices. I used to keep nutty bars in my car and a can of coke straight from the fridge in my house and eat on my way to work. Have a pb & j sandwich for lunch with another soda from my work's vending machine. I recently made the switch to eating Paleo and I'm glad I found it. I even bought the book "The Paleo Solution" by Robb Wolf. Over the past few months I have been all over the place. Got some forum members tired of me asking for more help with regards to a workout routine. It really is tough out there. So many different workout programs. I have looked at SimpleFit, Convict Conditioning, P90X, Insanity, Starting Strength, FitDeck workout cards, etc. Also tried to create my own thing. By doing Paleo already I already have dropped 5 pounds. It helps that I have a warehouse job too that keeps me active. My goals are to lose the fat and ultimately be ripped. i want to be transformed. I want to turn my one pack into a six pack. I also want to be super strong. Sadly no funds for a gym or even weights at home also no space. But I do own a pull up/dip power station. I plan on purchasing the Rebel Strength guide and following that. Is that a good idea? Thanks for reading and looking forward to getting advice from others and learning a lot.
