Shortstuff's battle log

So I have been lazy, and haven't kept the best of records with my workout stats. By that I mean while I might write what I did, ie go for a run for x amount of time, or did strenght training for x amount of time, I am not the best of keeping records of where I have started and what I can do now. About the only record I have kept is of my times when I run 2.4k, something that I have only started a couple of months ago, and now I am finding I only write them down when I beat my best time.

I don't really know if many people keep a workout log while they are doing a 6 week challenge, but I thought that if I have a workout log as well, I could record of everything that I do workout wise in one place so that I could see where I have started, and where I am now. I also thought it would be easier to keep everything in one place. Why I am starting now? Well I am about to start the new rules of lifting for women workouts, and figured I should really keep a log.

So my stats are

2.4k run - First time was 18:43, now 16:18

Goal: working on a sub 15 min, once I get that it's will be a sub 13 min, one day I want to be able to do a sub 10 min

5k run without walking - 40 minutes

Goal: once I reach my final 2.4k run goals (last one is sub 10 min) I am going to work on my 5k goals, which are 1. sub 35 min (thinking by the time I get to working on my 5k I might be there), 2. sub 30 min, 3. sub 25 min, 4. sub 20 min.

Plank - Not sure What I started at, but last time I did one I held it for 50 seconds

Push-ups - Start of last year I couldn't even do one on my toes, the most I have ever done was 14 which was on Thursday

Goal: 1. 25 push ups, 2. 50 push ups, 3. 100 push ups. All push ups goals are without stopping (only to move hands if they are slipping)

Swiming - 416m

Goal: only goal at the moment is make it to 500m without stopping, I won't be working on this one till summer

Bench press - Started at 1.5kg because that was what I had, now up to 6.5kg

Overhead press - Once again started at 1.5kg because that was what I had, now up to 4kg

Squats

2 sets, 15 reps, no barbell

2 sets, 12 reps, no barbell

3 sets, 10 reps, 4 kg on barbell

Push-ups

2 sets, 15 reps, on knees

1 sets, 10 reps, on knees

Bent over rows

2 sets, 15 reps, 5kg dumbbell

1 set, 10 reps, 5kg dumbbell

Total time: 17 minutes including rest periods

2.4k run – time: 16:17, max heart rate: 196, average heart rate: 183

Total distance according to Zombies, Run! 6.03k

Max heart rate for rest of run/walk: 179

Average heart rate for rest of run/walk: 147

Squats

2 set, 8 reps, 4 kg on barbell

Push-ups

1 set, 4 reps, on toes, followed by 1 set, 4 reps, on knees

1 set, 12 reps, on knees

Bent over rows

2 sets, 15 reps, 5kg dumbbell

Total time: 6 minutes, no rest periods – went from one exercise to the next

Work out Log 22/07/2012

5 min light run at about 150-160 brm

Light run - run for a bit, walk for a bit, repeat without over doing it, but enough to get somewhat of a workout

Total distance according to Zombies, Run! 8.49k

Max heart rate: 190

Average heart rate: 143

Legs hurt a little bit after yesterday, I think it was the squats. I wanted to get a workout in but didn't want to over do it because of my legs. They didn't hurt until near the end when I was trying to run, so I stoped running, and kept to a walk which didn't hurt. I am now paying for it - my legs are alright so long as I am not moving around. I will have to see how I go tomorrow.

Ooh, tennis. Do you like playing tennis?

I tried it as a school sport once, I always had some hole in my racket :)

I don't hate playing tennis, I just don't enjoy it. I am only doing it for my friend.

I like the simplicity of your workouts. Seems you can just get things done, no fussing around with heaps of different exercises.

Thanks, with the strength side of things, I have only started at the start of this 6 week challenge, as I wanted to get stronger because I was told my size might make navy basic training even harder if I got in, I only 152cm which is just tall enough to get into the defence force. So I am just starting small, and working my way up. Once I get stronger I might look for harder versions of exercises where I can't just add more weight to it and work on that, but for now I don't want to overdo things.

Ok so not as much as I had wanted, but I figured I better do something or I won’t get my third strength training in. I don’t know if anyone seen my post in the boss battle in scouts, but I am going to a convention with my cousin. I am leaving today (Friday) in about an hour, and I won’t be getting back until after 8pm on Sunday. Somehow I don’t think I will be getting around to doing my strength training on Sunday, even if I felt like it. So I did my minimal time today because today’s the only day I would actually do it. I’m rumbling now so I am going to shut up now, and go finish getting ready.

So I haven't worked out since Friday as I have been away. I had a big weekend, by big I mean, lots of walking, a tiny bit of running, shopping, spending too much on cute stuff which includes cute pokemon stuff, lots of junk food - the only meals that weren't take out/away was breakfast, and I got back late last night. So as a result I didn't really feel like doing much today, so I went for a 4.58k walk.

Squats

Side note on push-ups - the 20 reps almost killed me, it was only meant to be 15, but I thought I would up it to 20 as they were on my knees. I don’t know if the 20 push-ups had anything to do with it, but during all the following sets, my arms hurt even though they were all done on my knees – hopefully I won’t get a visit from the DOMs monster tomorrow. I thought I would do them all on my knees as I am unable to do 15 on my toes, let along more sets.

Bent-over row

2 sets, 15 reps, 6.5kg dumbbell

2 sets, 12 reps, 6.5kg dumbbell

3 sets, 10 reps, 6.5kg dumbbell

Side note on the bent-over rows – in a moment of weakness I almost wasn’t going to do the 3 sets, 8 reps, 6.5kg dumbbell as my arms were sore, but I bounced back in time and ended up doing them

Jack-knife

3 sets, 12 reps

3 sets, 8 reps

60 seconds rest between each set

Total time: 64 min including rest

Total distance ran – 3k

Average heart rate: 151

So I didn’t run as much as what I normally do, I went not long after I did my strength training. Lesson learnt. On the bright side I did do a lot better than Wednesday as I managed to run more even though I did only run for 100-300m at a time.

That's a good strength training workout. Remember, you can't run from the DOMS monster. He's pretty sneaky like that.

I'm no runner but I'd say you did pretty well for a post strength run.

Thanks, for push-ups on my knees, my arms seemed to hurt a lot where as with my running I learnt my lesson - next time I will do them either on different days altogether or do one in the morning and one in the afternoon
