ooooooo I know someone who tried out.... LOL.

I AM going the distance

'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

I'm looking forward to it, gotta remember to set the DVR.  I love watching people do that crazy stuff, wish I could but I'll never be there.

i can understand what you're saying about the 'sob' stories, but I think its a culture thing.  People want a story, they want an underdog.  I'm more of a softie, so I'm for the backstories, but I do wish they would balance it more so we can see more action and less talk.

I don't watch ninja warrior for the underdog... I watch it for the crazy awesome guy that everyone knows is a complete beast.  I watch it because I want him to succeed, I want him to do the impossible... and every time he fails I want the next episode to come on and the next over the top amazing competitor to give it his best.  Sometimes you don't need a story... you just need a crazy guy who built his own obstacle course in his backyard and then trained for years to get his one chance to climb a metal mountain.

This.  The second to last stage has been crazy the last few years, just SO much grip work.

Exactly. Mount Midoriyama is like any other mountain. You climb it because its there. I'm sure if you asked the blind guy who climbed mount everest what his motivation was, he'd say he climbed it because he could. But these sob stories make it seem like people need a reason to run the course. As if the challenge of it wasn't reason enough.

and now my watch begins...

well...less than a week to go!  check your local listings!

Woohoo!!!

My favorite guy that I watched compete was the pro NFL 255lb guy who finished one of the qualifying rounds. He was by no means the fastest but considering that he was almost twice as heavy as the little guys... amazing.

Hey Gainsdalf! You could totally do it! It's just a matter of how badly you want it. A little thing I like to believe is that there's no such thing as impossible. Never say you can't. It may be EXTREMELY difficult but you can still do it. :) I've dribbled a football, technically seen 'pigs fly' (no they didn't grow wings xP) and watched a once "completely paralized for life" man work to force himself to get up and walk, then run and eventually play trumpet extremely well! Point being, if it's just a dream in the back of your head like most people's fantasies then fine. But if you really want to be on the show go for it! You never know! :) If you google "ninja warrior workout" There are piles of excercises to prepare your body for the strain. Even if you're not quite there yet you can start with some of the easier NF workouts to get your muscles up and going! Good luck. Hope that was a word of encouragement and not just annoying lecturing. ><

No, it's not possible with my current body composition goals, physcis screws me over on this one. I'm a 260 lb man with a lean body weight of about 190 lb, and eventually 20-30 more on top of that given my powerlifting goals. Guys my size can just flat out not develop the grip strength and endurance needed to get through these courses. Level 1? Sure. Level 2 would be very difficult. Level 3, especially the current iteration, would be impossible due to the scaling of body mass vs. strength. These courses are all about carrying your bodyweight through the course and as you increase the size of an organism, the ratio of strength to weight shrinks for a given physique due to how strength increases as the square of height and mass as the cube. This is why all the people you see be very succesful and make it further are 170 lb or so at the heaviest and why shorter people tend to be more successful.

Could I possibly drop a shit ton of muscle mass and fat mass? Sure, but it would probably be super unhealthy. Using football terminology, I'm built like a linebacker at a healthy weight while those succesful in ninja warrior are more like cornerbacks. That's simply my genetics. That's why I've chosen a sport (power lifting) that is benefitted by that build like I have rather than one (such as ninja warrior) that those genetics make harder.
