What bands have you seen live?

Recommended Posts

OMG I totally forgot- you reminded me- we went to a Toby Mac concert many many moons ago!!!

There were several names there- but I couldn't tell you who for anything- Jars of Clay?? someone like that.

I HAVE SEEN JARS OF CLAY LIKE A MILLION TIMES

My favourite story is that I went to see them a few years ago and was standing near the stage.  It was a cheapish outdoor concert and a ton of people were just sitting in lawnchairs, so it was like me and six other hardcore fans standing by the stage.  After the concert they were signing autographs, and when I got up to Steve, he goes "I LOVED YOU IN SPIDERMAN."  I stared at him blankly for a second then was like "...OH!  I get that all the time."  Seriously, I have people chase me down in stores to tell me how much I look like Kirsten Dunst (or "Mary-Jane Watson!")  He says "I was looking at you the whole time thinking 'That's incredible!  Kirsten Dunst came to our concert!!'"  And Dan and Charlie are like "wow she really does look like her!"  And like the complete nerd I am I'm blurting out "I'M SUCH A FAN YOU GUYS I SAW YOU GUYS AT YOUR FIRST EVER CORNERSTONE SHOW.  I'M SHOUTING."

OhGod.

Anyway, I worked in radio for five years so I got the chance to see a lot of shows gratis.  Let me try to remember everybody I've ever seen starting when I was a little kid.

Boyz II Men

New Kids on the Block

MMC (you know, when Mickey Mouse Club had a band and they were just MMC because that was cooler?)

Jars of Clay about sixty bajillion times

DC Talk

Audio Adrenaline

A handful of other Christian bands - I went to a Christian music festival twice.  I can't remember all of them.  PFR.  And Phillips Craig and Dean maybe?

Dashboard Confessional

MxPx

Brand New

Remedy Session

Switchfoot (and I got a photo with Jon Foreman eeeeee)

The Sleeping

Relient K

Hawthorne Heights

Emery

Plain White T's

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

Cheap Trick

Trace Adkins

Martina McBride

Daughtry... three times.  Once from the third row. <3 <3 <3

SafetySuit

The Hush Sound (some band from Chicago?? I don't know.)

Spill Canvas

Augustana

OneRepublic

AND... NKOTB again as an adult.  Fifth row.

I've also seen Bill Cosby but that doesn't really count as a band.

I feel like I'm missing a bunch.  Clearly they didn't make that big of an impression on me...

Really need to start going to gigs again. Used to be I was at the local rock bar whenever anybody was playing, these days it's been a good 18 months since I saw anything (I do have a fozzy gig 2 weeks on Wednesday though).

I'll spare the names of the local bands and just stick to the big (or recognisable enough to get a wikipedia entry) type bands.

Hammerfall

Dream Evil

Alice Cooper

Motorhead

Joan Jett

Blind Guardian

Delain

Grave Digger

Tarot

Within Temptation

Jorn

Edguy

Sonata Arctica

Bal Sagoth

Rush

Yes I do tend to lean more towards the power metal side of the spectrum than the other side.

Some good stuff mentioned in this thread...I've been going to concerts since my late teens, but I don't live in what was previously a big market area for them so I generally had to travel 2-4 hours minimum for most of the shows that I saw prior to the last year or so. Off the top of my head, in mostly no particular order...

Genesis

The Beach Boys (w/Brian Wilson, of course)

Radiohead (x2)

Peter Gabriel (x2)

Phil Collins (last-ever U.S. performance; I'm on the DVD for a brief moment!)

Steve Hackett (x2)

Renaissance (before Michael Dunford passed away)

Daryl Hall (of Hall & Oates)

Fleetwood Mac (sans Christine McVie)

The Who (well, the Daltrey and Townshend Show, anyway)

The Promise Ring

Phish

Sloan (x2)

Ben Folds

moe.

David Bowie

Ash

Assembly of Dust

Enter the Haggis

Dropkick Murphys

Depeche Mode

Wilco

Gogol Bordello

Cold War Kids

Franz Ferdinand

The Dan Band

Black 47

Nine Inch Nails

The Strokes

Rustic Overtones (a few times?)

The Brew (American band, not the British one, many times...at least 6 or 7)

The Musical Box (outstanding Genesis tribute band)

Styx

REO Speedwagon

Common Rotation

probably loads more that I'm just not thinking of...oh, and I'm volunteering at a music festival this weekend, so I'll likely be seeing some more new-to-me stuff, and I'm planning to catch Dr. Dog (one of the headliners) on Friday night.

Oh, and some artists that I would Really Love To See someday, before they (or I, I guess) die...

Gladys Knight (with or without any Pips!)

Blur

Huey Lewis and the News

Crosby, Stills and Nash (with or without Neil Young)

Paul McCartney

Ted Leo

Squeeze (whatever incarnation presently exists)

Crowded House (see above)

The Cure (see above)

1) Rollins Band - simple the best live show I have ever seen, his energy on stage is amazing!

I've seen 3 or 4 of Henry Rollins' spoken word type shows and his energy is incredible! He keeps you hanging on every word & then you leave with 10x more energy than you went in with.

Cool, the guy that used to play Opie on "Sons of Anarchy" is playing the biker in that movie.  Big stretch I know, but still good to see Ryan Hurst.

I haven't seen a lot of bands live, but the ones that I have seen were pretty memorable.

First band I ever saw live was Social Distortion. My (then) husband was a huge fan and they were playing downtown just a few days after we got married. He used to be a roadie for Alice in Chains, so he knew how things worked and said we should get there way early for the show. So we showed up at noon. The band was unloading their gear from the bus and we got to meet all of them and got the CD autographed by everyone in the band.

Then a couple years later we went to Warped Tour and had a great time, despite all the emo bands. NOFX was the headline band and it's true...they really do suck live...

But another band, Patent Pending, put on an amazing show, there were only like 20 people gathered around a tiny stage, but there was tons of energy and the singer really got the crowd going and even crowd surfed! Then later we went to their booth and chatted with them and got some autographs from them.

"When I can no more stir my soul to move, and life is but the ashes of a fire; When I can but remember that my heart once used to live and love, long and aspire - O be thou then the first, the one thou art; Be thou the calling before all answering love, and in me wake hope, fear, boundless desire." - George MacDonald
