Nerd Fitness Weekly Trivia Bowl #NFtrivia - Next Trivia July 6th

Hey nerds! We're having a trivia challenge in the #nftrivia chat room each Sunday (starting December 15th) at 9EST/6PST. Come on out and have fun with us while showing off your wealth of useless knowledge!

For the first few trivia nights I will be writing the questions and moderating. The floor is open to ideas for sharing host/moderator duties and submitting questions, if we continue in the future.

 

JOINING:

• Join us at the appropriate time by clicking on "CHAT ROOM" above and typing /join #NFtrivia in the chat client

RULES:

• There will be 45 questions, in three rounds of 15 questions each.
  • Round 1 questions are worth 2 points each
  • Round 2 questions are worth 3 points each
  • Round 3 questions are worth 5 points each
  • Max score is 150
• Questions will increase in difficulty in each round.
• Each question will be preceded by a few seconds with its corresponding question number, point value, and category (e.g. Round 1, Q1, 2p, Medieval Weaponry) Potential categories could be anything at all, but "nerd" topics will feature heavily.
• Points will be awarded to the first person to correctly answer each question. The first correct answer is the first one to be logged in the moderator's IRC client. Moderator's determination will be final (screen shots may be provided to squelch crybabies )
• Standings will be posted at the end of each round.
• No prizes will be awarded, just bragging rights for the top three finishers.
• Once a question has been posted, it will be open to responses for 60 seconds. If the correct answer is not provided within 30 seconds, the first letter of the correct response will be provided. If the correct answer is not provided within 60 seconds, the question is forfeited and no points are awarded.
• Any and all resources are allowed, including Google. Good luck edging out the competition and beating the clock!
• Spelling counts! I don't want to be a stickler but we're gonna start with this rule from day 1 just incase we want to switch to a trivia bot some day. If you spell your response incorrectly and someone steals it by correcting your spelling, you are entitled to assault the thief with a dictionary using the emote command (e.g. childofscorn ravages STFU_TRAIN with a thousand papercuts from the pages of Webster's dictionary), but you won't get your points back!
• In the case that the answer is a person (e.g. public figure), only the last name will be required.
• Rules are subject to change up until one hour before the event begins, incase I forgot anything ::lulz::
• This is a FUN trivia tournament. All efforts will be made to curate the difficulty of questions, and time the questions appropriately. If you are unsatisfied with the way the game is rolling out, you may send the moderator ONE snarky and/or passive-aggressive comment (as long as it's funny and in good taste), and then immediately resume having fun. (e.g. childofscorn throws shade in the general direction of MarsRover for letting such an easy question slip into round 3. For shame!)

Made a couple of edits to the rules.

 

We're doing 45 questions, not 60. And if the question is asking for a person/public figure, all that's required for a correct response is the last name.

I have been a trivia games junkie since I was a kid and traveled the eastern half of the U.S. playing them in college, but as has come up a number of times in chat, my true nerd cred is severely lacking. lol. I'll still be there, though.

Good thing I wandered into this thread. I can host it, Rover, and I'm thinking I might use a question packet from a college tournament I wrote questions for and helped run. The format/scoring will work a touch differently. TBD on that.

I will, alas, probably not be able to make it to trivia tonight.  I'll be attending a friend's Christmas cantata, and on the off chance that it wraps up before 9pm, I'll probably still be on my way home  I shall however throw my full support behind alienjenn to win it this time!  you can do it, girl!

 

Also, I volunteer my services to run it any time you need to miss a week, or just want to be a player sometime, MarsRover I definitely want to keep this thing going!
