Hey all!
Dandizette here, or Dandi for short.

I'm a 24 year old Assistant Librarian. I've got a degree in Classical History and Latin, and currently work part time in a city library. I love RPGs, reptiles, geek craft, and WTNV.

I'm super into history and literature (ask me about my thesis, I dare you!), and my special project at my library is maintaining our graphic novel's selection. I love graphic novels and comics and manga. I used to be in marching band for eight years (bass trombone FTW!) and I play a lot of table top RPGs. Recently, I've gotten into cosplaying while I put off graduate school (haha, man, I really need to get back in the game.)

Recently, I've desired to get fit for personal reasons and for cosplay. Being in the stacks all day, working the shelves? Sitting at the circ desk? Not good for your health. So, I'm off to leave the stacks and join the field.

Hello, Rebellion!

Welcome to the rebellion, Dandi!

TELL ME EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR THESIS.  And your life.  And your books.  And your interests in history.  (I'm an aspiring medieval historian.  Hello!)  And your cosplaying!  What have you cosplayed so far?  What are you interested in doing in the future?

Oh, this is so exciting *jumps up and down* So glad to meet you, Dandi!

Thanks!

My thesis was on Constantine's Use of Apocalyptic Propaganda in the Holy War of 324 AD. I talked about his believe in the apocalypse, his changes to the Bible, Roman Law code, and more that match his beliefs regarding Christian eschatological theory. CB

I just... love books. I have a ton. Just like... 4 book shelves worth at home. Plus where I work. It's just... It's a problem. XD

For history, I'm sort of a jack of all trades, which is why I went library instead of historian. I love studying the rise of the Abrahamic Religions and their early histories. A sub interest of that is the history of the Devil as a figure in those religions and how he's changed in public consciousness over time.

Medieval is good history, but not my specialty (I took a few Medieval Latin classes for my degree, so I have more knowledge than most, it's just not my personal favorite.) What part of Medieval history interests you the most? What would you like to do with your history career?

I'm also strangely fond of the French Revolution.

COSPLAY! OMG! I'm fairly new to cosplay and only have a year under my belt, but I LOVE IT!

I've done Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon. Then I did Dr. Ritsuko Akagi, her new design from EVA 3.0. Right now, I'm working on doing a misc. Ravenclaw student for May, in August, Sasha Kaidonovsky from Pacific Rim, and in September, Jean Kirschtein from Attack on Titan, as well as a few AU versions of the same character.

What do you cosplay? How long have you been cosplaying?

Your thesis sounds glorious!  Is it available anywhere for purchase?

I used to be a religion major, too (lost all my credits when I transferred to a school without comparative religion).  Abrahamic religions are so interesting!  Studying Islam (only rudimentary courses) was awesome, and I'd love to learn more.  As for medieval, I tend to focus on Europe and Christian religion/spirituality... but I'm such a youngling that I try to learn everything and haven't really found a specialty.  Late antiquity/early medieval is one of my interests, but all my profs are early modernists or US historians and can't help me out much.  I also have no idea what I'm going to do with my life--grad school, perhaps.

Books are never a problem!  When my family moved two months ago, we filled half a truck with book boxes.  It was pretty great :)

Gah!  Will you post pictures of your cosplays?  Pretty please with apocalyptic literature on top?  You have done so much in just a year!  Do you make your own costumes?  Did you make Sasha's armor?  Questions questions questions!  Cosplayers are awesome and amazing and talented!  (I don't cosplay, unfortunately; I just ogle at all the amazing people.)

My thesis isn't available for purchase, no. My alma mater retains the rights to it's distribution, unfortunately. However, I can send the working 25 page pre-thesis paper I used to as a spring board over some time. : )

Awww. That's too bad. 8( I got to study under Charles Matson Odahl, who is an expert on Constantine and also on Cicero. He was such a great professor to work under. He had us reading Latin texts from all the eras, translating tons of religious tracts and histories (Eusebius FTW!!) He had detailed drawings he'd done of the three layers of the Vatican and their various periods of construction. We saw pictures of the tombs and catacombs underneath!!! Really, try to get yourself to a college with a history department that matches your needs. It's much easier and you learn so much more when you can have guidance in your fields of interest. I promise!

Hahaha. AH, it's a problem when you live on your own and relocate a lot. I just can't part with them. I love them too much to part with them though. Like--I have a 121 year old copy of Goethe's Faust with gold leaf edging on the pages and a gold foil cover. Just. Ugh. Booooks.

I will. I'll post them on my profile page later tonight. They're not great because they're beginner cosplays, but I know I'll get better! Also, I have zero talent at sewing. So, usually I use pieces that I've found and modified from thrift stores or things that I've paid to have sewn for me. What I'm really good at it just playing the part and doing the make-up. I really wanna slim down so I can crossplay more effectively, which is why I'm here.
My friend who I'm doing the Pacific Rim cosplay with doesn't have time to do the armour (although I've been reading about how to do it!!) so we're doing the couple in their regular clothes. I'll be modifying my Akagi outfit for it. : )

ALSO! I've do a mean Cecil Palmer. Not quite the normal take on Cecil (much softer, more adult, less alt, but I still think it's a good Cecil!)
