Hello. My name is Quintin and I'm ready to try a new tactic.

I'm 5' 6" and 260 lbs. That's down from 270 at the beginning of the year. It's been up and down for many years now but even on a down, still way to high. My new years resolution was to drop 1 lbs a week. I was doing pretty well but the weight loss has stalled out. so I'm switching up the focus. At least I'm still focused on the resolution, though. I can still make it.

I'm focusing on strength training now. I've started the SL5x5 program this week. I was doing BodyPump for strength but recently read an article that convinced me that a heavy lifting program would be a better solution for my goal of weight loss.

I also enjoy cycle group classes and do interval workouts on the elliptical when I can. Those are not as frequent as they were while I put SL5x5 into my schedule and then see how other routines work in around them. I'll be back into a rhythm in a couple more weeks.

This site has a lot of things going on within it. I'm still a bit lost. I'll keep poking at it until all the pieces fall into place.

SL5x5 is a good program, I think you'll like it.  The fat will come off if you keep an eye on your energy balance.  Lifting will help with the calorie burn, but ultimately, it's so much easier to save calories by watching what you eat than it is to expend them via exercise.

Also, keep up the steady-state cardio.  It'll help with the burn and give you other benefits as well.  Intervals are tough to do if you're lifting heavy and don't yet have a solid fitness base, so I'd focus more on the steady-state stuff for now.

Stay disciplined, and you'll get your goal!

I've been watching what I eat for some time now. Something needs to kick my body into a new gear. 5x5 will be that. I'm enjoying it already.

My guess is the steady state will return once the weight climbs with the 5x5. Right now it's so low intervals are not a problem.

Thanks for the advice.
