Going back to school

I dropped out of college about a decade, it was the biggest mistake of my life, but I am ready to go back.

Here is my dilemma, should I go from my full time job to part time and go to school full time. Or work full time and got to school part time. I am about half way to my bachelors from my previous time in school. I can afford to go p/t, but I need health insurance to cover my son and myself.

While I can't give much any advice on health insurance, I still want to say good for you. Never too old to go.

Health insurance is pretty darn important, so I wouldn't recommend losing that.  Can you take some online classes?  You might be able to go 3/4 time or even full time if you can do a couple of online classes.  I did probably 50% of both my AA and BA online - it was much easier to get the schoolwork in between the classes I had to take in a classroom and working.  Lots of 2AM and weekend work.  You might try just part-time for now and see how you adjust, and if things are going well, add a couple classes along the way.  Also don't forget about summer classes... they are rather accelerated, I took one that was an entire semester worth or work in all of four weeks.  But you can knock out some credits and get closer to graduating faster by taking summer classes as well.

Congrats on going back! Can you make an appointment with an advisor at the school? Make sure your previous courses still count, see what else you need/how close you are to the degree. Then you can figure out a plan based on how many credits you need, when classes are offered, etc.

I don't know what field you've been working in or what your degree is, but you could also see if you can get credits based on experience. If you're in the US, see if your school gives credit for CLEP exams and maybe you can knock out some classes that way.
