low back :(

Recommended Posts

my lower back kinda hurts today. did squats and deadlifts yesterday. while i'm nearly positive i maintained good, at least decent, form i think i tweeked my back. i remember getting off balance at the end of a lock out in my next to last set. it's not unbearable pain, just slight when i lean forward(like to wash hands in a sink). i can do a squat motion and DL motion(body weight only) with no discomfort but actually sitting down is initially painful.

anyone have any home remedies or anything? supposed to do boxing tonight and someone is coming to take pictures of the gym/classes and i don't wanna miss out.

help?

Are you just sore, or do you think you actually have an injury? If you think you are injured, I have no help, and you may want to seek medical advice. If you're just sore, maybe something like this: http://www.fitnessblender.com/v/workout-detail/Stretching-Pilates-Yoga-Workout-Blend-Relaxing-Stretching-Routine-to-Relieve-Stress-Back-Pain/it/ or http://www.fitnessblender.com/v/workout-detail/Lower-Back-Stretches-for-Sciatica-Pain/88/ would help? You could probably. Google "stretches for back pain" and find other stuff, I just happen to love Fitness Blender, and I knew they had back stuff.

You could try a hot compress (don't ice it). It sounds pretty mild, so as long as you avoid going heavy until it feels better, you should be fine. However, I wouldn't recommend sparring, and I would immediately stop if it gets aggravated. I occasionally get this sort of pain after deadlifts as well. It has only been one day; give it time.

It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question and he'll look for his own answers.

I feel like it may be a mild pulled muscle. thanks to both of you for the great advice. I really appreciate it. I think sitting out on sparring may be a good idea

Whether injured or not tiger balm is a terrific go to for soreness. Its a cross between a salve and icy hot. Way better than icyhot though. It's available at cvs, walgreens, and boots.

Other than that I use an old fashioned hot bath or a heating pad.

Hope your days 2-4 post workout aren't too bad!

well, i trained on it thurday just didn't spar, and it seems to have exaggerated the pain immensely. so i've decided, as much as i don't want to, to take a full week off from training and exercise. if i don't see some relief by the 1 week mark,  4/30, then i'll go see a doctor.

That doesn't sound good; I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon. Have you been using hot compresses and stretching? Let us know how the next week goes.

i've been stretching as much as my body will allow. putting socks on now seems to be a chore. i've been using a heating pad and biofreeze(on separate days). not sure if either has really been effective. two of my friends seem to think i should see a doc tomorrow. i think they're mostly worried because i've had herniated disks in the past... this doesn't quite feel the same though, so i'm still trying to remain optimistic.

I hope you heal up soon. You may want to look into Foundation Training (Link: http://www.foundationtraining.com/). My back has never been stronger since incorporating it into my workout routines.

thanks, i'll definitely look into these. i went back to the gym for the first time in nearly two weeks yesterday.

I am in this boat with you!

I have had some lower back issues before (during the winter, I messed it up twice shoveling snow)...usually it lasted 5 or 6 days then it would feel better.

I've recently started lifting things and wasn't having trouble until Wednesday when I messed something up. I am fairly sure it was the squat (I tried high bar instead of lowbar this time)--though I did dead lift also. I am finding heat is the best, plus stretching. Yoga stretches like child's pose, cat cow as tolerated, down dog, sphinx. I am trying to keep moving, but avoiding the exercises I know are going to activate it. It's feeling mostly better now (I can tie my shoes and sleep) but there is still some soreness and stiffness.

Hopefully yours is much the same, just some muscle strain!

I'm totally going to check out that link, also. Thanks batterycp!

mine is doing much better. i returned to the gym monday and did squats(i tend to do high bar more than low... low is uncomfortable for me, i guess from lack of practice) bench and rows. probably avoiding deads till next week. just to be sure. i still feel a slight twinge when i tie shoes or bend. but i'm much, much better. glad you're doing well too. i started taking yoga a few weeks ago, prior to injury, but took the last 2 weeks off from that too. i should return to that this weekend.
