[Muffled Aria of the Soul playing in the distance.]

My name is Anji. I've been here a few times before, but I lost access entirely to the email that I was once signed up under and decided to return.

Two days ago, while assisting a customer in the clothing store I work at, the fabric on my left thigh split. This was not an unusual occurrence, even when I was average weight in high school this would happen. Blame the shape, you know.

But when I went to buy a quick replacement pair of tights or leggings, the largest size would not fit. Nothing. It took an entire hour for me to get replacement pants and size 20 jeans are kind of my personal breaking point.

While I've never enjoyed going clothes shopping, I've never had anything flat out not fit me. Before I finally got to leave my job to get the new pants, everything I tried would just not fit past the top of my thighs or my hips. I am used to 'this is really tight/this zipper won't close' situations, not flat out being denied by fabric.

So I've had my moment of illumination and a nice heartpunch to the ego.

Soda is the first thing out, but I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

Welcome to the Rebellion!!

Size 16 stretch pants were my breaking point.  We all have those milestones where we have to say, "Enough!"

Cutting out soda will be hard, but it is a great thing to do for yourself.  Your teeth and thighs will thank you.  But watch out for the potential caffeine withdrawal.

If you want more accountability and support, I do recommend the 6-week challenges.  During these challenges, you pick a few goals to work on that will help you improve your life.  6 weeks is usually enough time to let you decide if the new activities are helpful and work for you .... or not. And that's long enough to establish new habits that you can turn into a healthier lifestyle.

The next challenge starts June 9th.  You'd start as a Level 1 Rebel (http://rebellion.ner...level-1-rebels/) .... which is where you LEARN about all of the stats, guilds, rpg character, and so on.  You still get to adopt what works for you, and you can ignore the rest.  Some very successful NF people never bother with classes or stat points or race or so on.  They just hang out in the guild that suits their goals best.

Even MOAR accountability?  We have accountability groups of 6 or so people who check up on each other frequently during a challenge.  Plus lots of other, optional fun.  I think there even is a No Soda group that is working on the same goal as you are!!

Yeah, this is my 3rd attempt at cutting out soda. Caffeine withdrawal is the worst.

I'm using myfitnesspal to keep track of my meals right now, the thing I am definitely going to need help with is my exercise. I was never really active, so working out is a big change for me. Add in easily stressed knees and ankle and it's a recipe for fun times.

Also healthy, gluten free food on a budget is a thing I should probably look into.

persona references, you just made an instant BFF beastie.

anyways, thats a decent start. a bit too slow for my taste (personally i'd cut out ALL drinks and focus entirely on water/ unsweetened tea [which has caffeine]), but shoot just cutting soda works for you, get it!

MFP is great for tracking calories and shocking you into seeing what simple snacks REALLY do to your body, but dont use it as a crutch. their calorie goals are FAR to low... i use it as well, to lose weight, but im supposed to consume 1390 total calories/day. which is absurd, as anyone here will tell you.

aaaaaand im totally on your level for the last point as well, we may as well be the same person... gluten free AND a budget is HARD to manage. HARD MODE ACTIVATED. stop eating as much carbs as you can. try to go full paleo. sure you can have your rice and stuff when you feel you need it, just follow the principles and eventually it'll get easier. also, cauliflower is a miracle carb substitute... you can turn it into bread or tortillas easily and you will barely notice the difference (though its a pretty expensive vegetable, to be fair).

-------------

to save money AND lose weight is a lot trickier... what i do personally is plan my meals in advance. i get a TON of veggies and 2-3lbs of protein (almost exclusively chicken breast), and just throw it in a crock pot. boom! food for a week. no cooking required (typically 1/4 meat and 3/4 veggies). for breakfast i just eat 2 or 3 eggs by themselves (pure protein, incredibly low fat/calories). but even though i do it religiously, i still think that takes a ton of discipline so if you arent comfortable with just that dont feel discouraged.

now, im in no way an expert on this. im still in the process of shedding my bodyfat % as well, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. i just think its a great way to ease into the proper habits without sacrificing too much.

So. Back again.

This year is forging me in fire. As of 48 hours ago - I've gotten 3 big spikes of BAD NEWS.

One from my fiance, which not gonna lie is making me reconsider how we approach our whole relationship. My parent's divorce is about to do something even stupider,  and I have to officially become a renter in my father's house or else the mortgage provider is threatening foreclosure.

But I'm still here. And I'm done waiting for something good to happen to me after all of this awfulness.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm doing somethin' dammit!

I think my biggest problem right now is to eat and eat consistently. Because of working retail for so long and having mildly disordered eating, I need to get in the habit of regular meals.

Ouch!!!  That's a tough road - long days and often stressful if you're dealing with the public.  Plus, it seems really hard to leave to get a drink of water let alone a healthy snack.  Do you have a break room with a fridge and microwave??

Alright, so, yet again, taken out in week three of my challenge. The culprit, hilariously had nothing to do with my personal ethic and everything to with how badly stress was affecting my body.

I caught a viral infection sometime in September and this month I caught Bronchitis. While I don't feel great, I am better than I was.

Personally - my parents long, ugly divorce is over. We have yo sell the house I am currently living in. Working and going to school is kicking my ass right now and despite dropping down to two classes, I can't get my foot under me academically.
