Possibly the nerdiest book I have ever read

Recommended Posts

So a friend recommended that I read" Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. I could not put this book down! Not only is it incredibly well written, but it has a story line that keeps you wanting more. And it doesn't stop there, it is slammed full of nostalgic gaming and pop culture references, especially from the 1980s.

Long story short, if you want a good read that makes you want to grab a roll of quarters and head for the arcade, or bust out the pen and paper for a round of dog adventure with your friends, then go pick up this book!

Do you like the Matrix with robots, Monty Python, and classic video game references accompanied in your head by an album of nothing but Rush? Yeah me too

If anyone prefers to listen to their books, check out the audio version - it's very well done.  And it's narrated by Will Wheaton (who I may or may not have had a HUGE crush on when I was 12).

You missed a chance for an awesome pun by not emphasizing the Crush(er) part. :(

Oh Christ yes - this book is the best! I read it about 6 months or so ago and loved it. Possibly only good for nerds of a certain age though...? Not sure the refs to 80s culture would ring a younger rebel's bell the way they did mine...?

This was, undoubtedly, one of my more enjoyable reads this year. I simply couldn't put it down, nor could I stop smiling at all of the references to 80's culture, as well as Sci-Fi/Fantasy culture. I am making a mental note to try and find a way to listen to the audiobook of this soon, as I can already imagine the narration by Wil Wheaton.
