Hello, everybody! I'm a little nervous, as this is my first time posting here. I am 31 years old, and looking to make a major change in my life. I'm also a spoonie, which means that I also have a chronic illness - specifically, I have sarcoidosis and fibromyalgia. Both of these conditions are problematic, but one of the reasons I've decided to get on with Nerd Fitness is because my fibromyalgia causes me a lot of daily pain. By getting in better shape, losing weight, and eating paleo I'm hoping to decrease my daily pain levels. Currently, I weight 240lbs (ouch! FSM, I'm so embarrassed to admit this online!) and my goal is to get down to 150lbs or less. I'm 5'7", and it's been...quite some time since I was last physically active. My first goal is to do a paleo challenge, where I go 30 days only eating paleo food. On recommendations from my doctor, I've decided to go with the autoimmune paleo protocol, wherein I eat vegetables, roots, meat, offal, fruit, herbs, some spices, and ferments. I'll be avoiding grains, beans/legumes, eggs, nightshades, dairy, alcohol, and NSAIDs. Anyways, I know that this is going to be really challenging for me, but it's important to me that I do this NOW - I can't keep on going through life feeling this badly. Thanks. :-)

Hi! I am also new to NF and have similar goals. I am 5'7" and weigh a bit more than you but would also like to get down to about 150. I am also following Paleo to the best of my ability and hoping to do better at that. I also happen to have Fibromyalgia and a few other issues which make pain a part of my daily life. Anyway, I am BRAND new to this site so I don't know my way around yet but if you are looking for someone with similar goals then feel free to add me as a friend or whatever. I just wanted to say Hi and good luck in your quest!

Welcome to Nerd Fitness xt! I'm a newbie myself. Believe me, you have nothing to be embarrassed about around here, there are people of all shapes and sizes with different obstacles to overcome and from what I've seen, this is an extremely good place to get positive support in your journey.

Today, a new round of their 6 week challenge started, I'd really love to see you sign up and put up a challenge post. It fits in perfectly with your Paleo challenge! The challenge area is very active right now and there are accountability groups for new people as well, I think it would be a great place for you to start :)

Here's a link to the challenge forum: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/forum/371-current-challenge-july-28th-sept-7th/

Good luck on your journey and I hope I see you on the challenge!

I'm 5'8.  When I joined I was 360 pounds. Lost 60 of it in the past year. Plan on doing even better this year. There's nothing to be ashamed of at all.  Welcome.  Changing how you're eating can have a huge impact. I know that I was dealing with anxiety, depression, and constant knee, foot, and lower back pain- once I got the hang of eating right and getting into a good habit; all of those things were lessened- by a LOT.

Hello! I'm also fairly new to all of this and a fellow Spoonie. I have RA and am trying to build up enough muscle to support my joints and lose weight at the same time. I actually started my journey about a three months ago (just a bit nervous to post until I was sure I would stick with it this time). I started out weighing 250lbs at 5'9". (also ouch. ;P) This past year my RA has been very active and I've had a lot of damage to my joints. I was bedridden for most of that time. My muscles were basically gone and I felt like a big bag of pain and fluffy padding. Dreadful. I finally really looked at myself and realized it was time to make some big changes. Well, since I've started I've now lost 30lbs. I made huge changes to my diet (I've done the autoimmune protocol via the elimination diet, so I don't eat gluten, milk, processed sugars, very little citrus fruit, and I can handle only a small amount of nightshades) and started out doing very light exercises at first before moving on to trying the NF weight lifting regime. The difference in the amount of pain I have everyday is astounding in so little time. I still hurt, but my shoulders haven't felt this good in years. They no longer dislocate by moving wrong, I can button shirts again, and it doesn't completely exhaust and pain me to walk from my bedroom to the kitchen.

Anyway, seeing your post I felt like it was time I did as well (I haven't seen any other spoonies on here yet... but then again, I wasn't looking very hard). I'll send a few spoons your way to get started! Here's to a good journey, ja? If you ever want someone to talk to, feel free to message! GOOD QUESTING!
