hello my lovelies!

well, with Comic-Con season upon us, and Halloween right around the corner, i have gotten to thinking a lot about potential costume ideas for myself, but i feel like i've tapped my brain resources of cool characters. so i'm starting this thread in the hopes that people can come and either post a picture or describe themselves, and then others can give fitting cosplay/costume ideas. sound fun? excellent!

i'll start with myself - i'm 5 foot 2, ~115 lb, blue eyes, blonde hair. now here's the tricky part. my hair is currently waist-length, but i am going to chop it off at the beginning of September and get a Ginnifer Goodwin pixie cut. [like this.] i think this change will open the doors to some fun gender-swapped costumes. if i was keeping my hair long [and if i was just a touch more toned], i think i would spend some time making a zero suit Samus costume. because Samus kicks ass. but the hair is going away and plans must change.  : ]

i know you don't have to look like the character in order to dress up as them, but i think it'd be fun to look convincing in whatever i wear. if i was brunet, i'd go for a Lara Croft thing. but i digress.

have any ideas for me? post 'em! want suggestions for yourself? tell us what you're workin' with!

If you go shoulder length instead of pixie cut you could get a wheelchair and some glasses and be oracle from batman. Or batgirl ( who is the same person but before the wheelchair.)

oh my god, i love #7! and i also kind of love #10. i've never been a die-hard X-Men fan and had never heard much about this character, but judging from my preliminary research, she seems to be a bad ass.  

i feel bad, i'm getting all the suggestions! seriously, if anyone else wants costume ideas, speak up!

I'll take any ideas you want to give, though I'm not really spending money on costumes except my Sith costume at the moment.  I'm 6'4", ~200 pounds, but I don't look like it.  Most people would call me skinny.  Short brown-ish hair and green eyes. Also I have a very deep voice, which probably doesn't matter for cosplay.

Alright so i have a couple cons coming up and I don't think I'll be able to finish my Wild West version of darkwing duck soooooo. I'm 5'9" 270lbs brown eyes and dark brown hair. What do ya got?

Hmmm.....do you already have the coat?  Is it already purple?  If not, you could use the coat and make damn near anything as a costume.  From Neo to Castiel, depending on color and such.

Hi! I'm looking for costume ideas, not just for Halloween, but maybe in the future cons also. I always feel a little left out because all my favorite characters have brown hair and I'm blonde. I don't know if I want to do hair dying (even if temporary) and I definitely don't want to mess around with wigs because I know that for them to look good, you pretty much need a good wig. I guess I could just do a blonde version of characters :/  I also won't generally be somebody I'm not familiar with because it feels like I'd be an imposter.

 

I really enjoy figuring out how to do special effects makeup on myself, if that helps any suggestions.

Fionna is a personal favorite of mine. [bet you couldn't guess that by looking at my avatar, huh?] but she doesn't call for any interesting makeup effects.

Sheik [as in Zelda and Sheik] has also always been on my list. but again, no crazy makeup...

if you like the gender-swap thing, girl-Duke Nukem could be really, really fun. and yet, still no makeup! grr! you'd think a guy who goes around blowing shit up all day would at least have a couple of scars!

well, speaking of scars, Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher games has shoulder-length blond hair and a gnarly vertical scar over his left eye. to be honest, i had never heard of these games before [i'm not deep into the gaming world] and his hair is pretty platinum. but he's a big beefy dude with seriously shadowy eyes, and i always think it's the best when girls dress up as guys like this. leaves a lot of room for creativity in the costume, and giving a female interpretation of such a masculine character makes it very interesting.  : ]

When I read this, my first thought was of Fiona Glenanne from the show Burn Notice.  Which would also be cool, since she usually carries around big guns and C4 while wearing a summer dress.  But also, not much makeup at all.

Hmm...I have a hard time describing myself, so I decided to share a picture instead.  It's from a few years ago--being self-conscious about my weight, I don't generally let people take my photos, so recent ones are all face-only--but I feel like it accurately reflects my general body shape.  A few key notes/differences:

- My hair is much shorter than it was when this was taken, only about to my collarbone (it's pulled up in the picture, but was almost waist length)

- It's also darker than it appears in this picture, kind of a dark blonde or light brown (fluorescent lighting is deceptive)

- I'm 5'4"

- I can't wear contacts, and am unacceptably blind without my glasses

 

Past costumes have included a lot of different ideas, but my favorites have been a cross-dressed Mad Hatter (multiple versions, both Batman villain and classic Alice in Wonderland), a gangster (as part of a Bonnie and Clyde theme with my ex), and a Fallout-inspired post-apocalyptic saloon girl.  I've also done a little cosplay back in high school, but none of it was particularly good.
