Howdy, I just got here.

Recommended Posts

Greetings any and all reading!

My name is Fruccus, I am an undergrad student living and studying in the North(ish) of England. I found and loved this site only yesterday and have already got myself signed up for the 6 week challenge. From what I can tell so far this place seems like a dream, and I can already tell that everybody here is supportive and helpful.

I don't really have that much else to say, I just thought I'd throw up a few words to say hello. If anyone wants to talk back that'd be great.

So, a bit more about me? Why not. I joined because I need to get myself into some kind of decent shape and that's incredibly difficult without the support of others. I tend to start and stop exercise regiments once every couple of months because I just fall out of habit. I never mean to, I just don't bother setting goals and fall behind. Then I get annoyed with myself and I can't bring myself to stick with it because I don't see any results. I'm sure someone out there can relate.

Having a community that isn't made up primarily of super-competitive, alpha-male meatheads is exactly what I need and I can't wait to start getting myself integrated a little more.

And, for the record, I'm a massive movie fan, I love to read and I play near enough any game I can get my hands on. I'm also aiming, in the long run, to learn to dance. Don't know what kind yet. If anyone out there is aiming for the same thing, I'd love to hear from you.

And that's it. Glad to be here and looking forward to meeting some awesome people!

Hi Fruccus! I'm also a newbie Brit - though I'm in the south (Hertfordshire). Where in the North(ish) are you?

I can relate to not sticking with exercise. That's exactly why I'm here too. I've lost count of the amount of times I've said "it'll be different this time", only to start slipping out of the habit and be back to square one a few months later.

The 6 week challenges seem like a great way to set goals and keep you on track. Just signed up for my first one as well!

Hi Fruccus =)

I'm a newbie as well. Signed up to the 6 week challenge yesterday though I have been a lurker for a while. I'm from Ireland, so not too far away!

Definitely relate to your exercise struggle. Consistency is my biggest problem. I've started and stopped exercise programs many many times. I'm very bad at forming new habits and new routines, and when most of my favourite activities involve sitting still - reading, watching movies, sewing - its way too easy to just get comfortable and say "I'll do it in a while", and then it becomes too easy to put it off (despite the underlying feeling of guilt that I try to ignore).

Hoping the community atmosphere here will help motivate me to keep on track!

I'm living in Sheffield, I'm at University up there.

I feel your pain, I've set out so many times and don't realize how much I'm lagging behind until I look in the mirror and realize that I'm gaining weight again.

Good luck with this new start, the six week challenge does seem like a great format and having people around to help is a huge advantage. Have you signed up to a support squad?

I have family in Ireland, are you North or South?

I have the same problem, I love watching movies. I can spend an entire day with my housemate just sitting down and staring at the TV. And if there's nothing to watch, it's usually Xbox time. I'm hoping the weather stays good for a while so that we can get into the habit of doing stuff outside the house, even if it's just a walk in the sun.

The "I'll do it later" excuse. How I've milked that one these past couple of years, especially with coursework!

I'm sure that the community here will help out, I joined a support group for Level 1's and it's a great atmosphere. Everyone has just started their first challenge and all share and help each other out.

I'm in Cork, so in the south =) I have some family in England too, near Stamford.

I've started using Habit RPG to get me to be productive every day. I break my day into loads of tiny goals, so I get xp and gold for just getting up and getting dressed, and more xp if I put my laundry in the hamper. And then I buy my leisure time with the gold I've earned. It's a fun way of doing things.
