Leaving on a jetplane...

Hi everyone, I've been reading the site for a fair while but only just decided to take the plunge and sign up properly.

I've always been a bit overweight despite doing plenty of road races, fellrunning, triathlons and even a spot of Aussie Rules football, but unfortunately a broken ankle last year (due to the latter sport) meant I've currently lost most of my fitness and want to get it back.

I'm from Britain but about to move to Qatar for three years with work so it seemed about time to kick of my own Epic Quest. I've spent the evening writing down a long list of things I want to do and I'm currently starting work on some Bodyweight Training as I have no idea what kind of gym equipment I'll have access to next month.

I'll have everything sorted to start the next 6 Week Challenge in September so ithat should be enough time to get acquainted with this board.

Thanks for the tip, I spent yesterday evening having a bit of an explore through the boards to get my bearing.

Fellrunning is great fun. Hard work getting younger hills, but the descents are crazy good fun!

This escalated rapidly - my flight's been brought forward a week and I'm now flying out there on Thursday! Lucky Steve wrote a hotel room workout I can use.

Probably won't get much running done over the next couple of weeks or so. Lucky I have these bodyweight ambitions to work on! Plus it's an extra week to get settled in so I can make a definite start on the next 6 Week Challenge.

So I now live in Qatar!

Been here for a couple of weeks now. The heat is incredible, but the humidity is more of the barrier to running outside. Keeping things limited to 5k at most until it cools off a bit.

No access to a gym for a little while, so I've started with the Beginner's Bodyweight Circuit for now. Working on getting myself all set up to start the next Six Week Challenge next month.

Glad everything is going ok with the move.

 

There is a book called You are YOur Own Gym that you may want to check out. You can get it online and there is also an app. Its all bodyweight stuff you can do at home.

I like it. I'm not one for pushing workout plans and stuff on people. But I also know I prefer having a physical copy of something.

VERY hot at the moment! I keep getting told that it'll start cooling down later on in the month but so far I'm not sure if I believe that... :)

Planning out my first challenge and got two of the goals & my life sidegoal, but struggling to come with a diet-based goal that I can make specific enough to be strictly measurable.

Even as I type this I realise there's a whole forum of threads I can look at for inspiration. *facepalm*

Cheers man, it has been! Nearly three weeks in now and I'm now finding my feet and getting into some kind of routine.

It only took looking at three threads before I hit on something which is exactly what I need to do with my diet right now, so that's me sorted for my first challenge! Really looking forward to signing up for it next week now :)

I'm loving it at the moment. New country, new job, no set routines... Being careful to build myself a decent Batcave and not get back into old bad behaviours. It's as blank a slate as I'm ever going to get in life, so I figure it's time to capitalise on it!

Is anyone else finding themselves checking the site three or four times a day so they can sign up for their first challenge? Or is it just me...?
