Progress: A Year Of Lifting (And Two Other Woots)

It's been quite a year.

I learned what a macronutrient is.

I learned how to cook. (Well, a little.)

I went from having a lousy diet and not being sure how lousy, to logging everything I eat and hitting protein and calorie goals every day.

I learned how to squat properly, and then spent a month with severe soreness in my adductors while they adjusted. The spikes of pain also taught me firsthand which human movements involve the adductor muscles. (Apparently, it's "all of them".)

I dropped a 45-pound plate edgewise on my foot, and limped for a week afterward. (Pro Tip: Do not do this. It hurts.)

At some point, I looked in the mirror and realized I have pecs now. This still has not ceased to be surprising.

My backaches, knee weirdness, and frequent headaches went away.

I stopped getting winded on staircases, and started being able to pick up my girlfriend and carry her around. (Which is great fun. I do this whenever I get a chance.)

And a 260 pound squat may not be very impressive by real-weightlifter standards, but it's a hell of a lot better than I could do a year ago!

Oh, and I guess I started feeling comfortable enough in my skin to post shirtless pics on the Internet. ;)

So this has been a very good year. I'm looking forward to year 2.

Plus, two bonus woots!

Keeping a workout log gives me an excuse to use this awesome new journal:

I have never owned a sexier book. This thing makes me want to work out just so I can write in it.

And just today, a co-worker has joined a gym and asked if we can be workout buddies. I have a workout buddy! And I get to help a newbie!

Through all this, the NF forums have been an invaluable source of information and encouragement to me. You all rock. Thanks for reading!

Bro I want that journal!

Awesome progress. Enjoyed the "apparently all of them" part. Oh leg day.

Keep it up!

Wow so many awesome goals/milestones reached! I only just started my first 6 week challenge... I can only hope I'll be as far ahead as you a year from now! Keep up the awesome work!

What a great post!  I love the humor of your starting stats and the dedication you had to yourself and your progess. Awesome.
