Bronan is slightly late on the up take as he looks the statue up and down briefly (initiative=1), but even when he does turn to see the small goblins, at first he just smiles and lets out a loud and hearty laugh. He walks causally toward the goblins behind Halfbro, lifting his greatclub from his shoulder with his right hand and pointing it at the little ones as he closes the distance. "Do you even lift!?", he asks, quirking his eyebrow with quite the amused grin on his face. He then brings the club back toward his shoulder, but now grasping it with two hands instead of one, ready to swing it at whichever puny for comes within reach.

OOC: I leave the rest of his attack up to DM's narrative judgement. If a goblin attacks Bronan before his turn, he will fight defensively to gain the AC bonus. If not, he will fight normally and close the distance with whichever goblin Halfbro is not fighting and clobber that one.

Goblins I HATE GOBLINS! Rowan charges (movement) towards the two goblins and unsheathes his great sword (minor) letting loose a guttural war cry. As Rowan reaches the two Goblins he attempts to cleave (Standard) both of them.

Cleave: You can strike two adjacent foes with a single swing. As a standard action, you can make a single attack at your full base attack bonus against a foe within reach. If you hit, you deal damage normally and can make an additional attack (using your full base attack bonus) against a foe that is adjacent to the first and also within reach. You can only make one additional attack per round with this feat. When you use this feat, you take a –2 penalty to your Armor Class until your next turn.

It would seem that the goblins underestimated the reflexes and prowess of Rowan, as he charged to meet them head on he swung his sword with all his might. The blow took the left most goblin in the side, striking with a force so great that the goblin was split in two, its legs continuing to propel its lower body forward a few steps before growing still. Rowan continued his swing and struck the other goblin as it began to move towards his companion Gorth, severing the goblins sword arm.

As the goblin archer prepares to fire Nas draws back the bowstring and takes aim. The goblin looses quickly in fear, shooting wide of him and striking a tree. Nas's arrow finds its home between the creatures eyes.

Gorth moves in and finishes the fatally wounded goblin by unceremoniously separating his head from his body.

Flo and Bacon first aim for the archer, but after seeing it put down they focus their attention on the entrance. Ensuring that any other goblins that may be lurking within the cave could not move in on their friends in the melee.

As this all happens Bronan takes slow lumbering steps into the fray. Seeing that the others have it handled he seems to be in no hurry. Perhaps he was gauging their battle prowess? Perhaps he was too enamored with the glorious muscular form of the large statue? It is difficult to know for sure. But be certain that when the upper severed half of the goblin began to squirm on the ground he quickly dispatched it by doing one of the things he did best. Smashing it with his club.

After dealing with the goblins Bronan, Gorth, and Rowan find themselves nearer the entrance of the cave, while Nas, Flo, and Bacon find themselves farthest away from the cave entrance. Everything has grown still and quite. Inside the cave a small camp can be seen, with simple mats for sleeping, a small fire with unidentifiable meats cooking on pits above. A small wooden chest with a rusty lock lies next to the farthest mat.

Flo loses sight of the goblin up top. As she tries to refocus, the battle noise disappears. She searches for the goblin and sees that the leg of the goblin is draped over the side of the rock at an angled only a dead one wouldn't scream about. She returns her arrow to its quiver and puts her bow back. The cave won't be big enough for this long thing.

As she double checks (percep: 19) around her for more enemies or something not normally there - oh like a bunch of gold, Flo? Really? She makes her way to the others closer to the entrance. Upon seeing the box, her heart jumps a little. Oooh... traps and locks? Wonderful!

She waits for the others, but says, "I would love to take a closer look at that box. But perhaps, we should make sure the nasty gobs are all dead and no more are around." She peers into the cave entrance, looking as deep into it as her elven eyes will take her (percep: 23).

Bronan frowns as he crushes the half-goblin's head to put it out of its misery. He'd have to be quicker with all these folk around if he wanted to get a workout. It was just like back at home if you got into the workout yard late on chest day. All the benches were taken, and you had to figure out what to do with yourself. That always sucked. No one wanted to do leg day instead of chest day.

Upon seeing the chest, he moves over to the side of it, kneels down, and takes up his warhammer. He places his off hand upon the top of the chest and swings downward, attempting to bash the lock off. Hopefully they had something good to eat in here...

After slicing a goblin in half and slicing another arm off Rowan cleans his sword off as he ponders taking a part of the goblin he sliced in half as a trophy, but quickly decides not this time.

Upon seeing how Bronan is dealing with the lock Rowan smiles and says "Bronan, hope you dont just end up destroying the chest and the loot inside."

Rowan goes to the fire pit to discern what was cooking and if there is any other food in the cave. Survival 5(1d20)+1+1+3(class skill)+2(self-sufficient) =12

After seeing that his arrow flew true Nas turned his attention back to the others just as Bronan crushed the head of one of the goblins.

He watched as Bronan and Rowan entered the cave ‘doubt there is much in there they couldn’t handle’ he thought to himself as he noted Flo standing in the cave entrance, her vision fixed on something that concealed from his viewpoint.

Nas walked toward the cave but stopped well outside of the opening.  Positioning himself to see as much of the cave as possible but yet maintaining that all his new comrades were in front of him.  Reaching back he nocked another arrow, leaving it rest lightly in his hands.  He turned to face away from the cave, looking out into the woods that surrounded them.

‘Goblins are not well known for their intelligence, but they are sneaky little shits’ he thought to himself as he scanned the area making sure the groups flank was will watched and protected. (Perception- Untrained: 19+2(elf)+3(wis)=24)

Gorth kept his guard up, but he wiped his weapon off on what remnants of clothing was on the goblins, before checking the surroundings as Nas had.

"Aye. I agree with ye' n' Flo on that." he paused, listening a moment, then continued. "Three gobs? How many sleeping mats be there?"

Shifting his chainmail he then proceeded to pull a throwing dagger off, he didn't think it was quite over, and even if it was? Chance was a fickle thing at times, and a goblin knife in your back wasn't something he wanted to experience if he could prevent it.

By the time Bacon managed to loosen the crossbow from his belt and load a bolt, the rest of the group had already advanced and slain the goblins. Oblivious still, he raised his weapon ready to shoot, only to face a silent battlefield. "Oh well," he mused as he lowered it and shook his shoulders. However, he still kept the crossbow in his hands just in case. Goblins were known to prevail through ambush tactics and sheer numbers, so probably there were more around. Perhaps these three were just the entrance guards and hopefully they had been too stupid to sound the alarm.

As he saw the others enter the cave, he closed in and entered behind them. "That black tooth couldn't have come from a goblin" he thought as he walked. "Perhaps they are keeping another monster with them... A Warg? A barghest perhaps? Hm, creatures with big black teeth associated with goblins..." (Knowledge: Nature, result of 18)

Somehow he felt more comfortable inside the cave. Gnomes were cave-dwellers, after all. He gave the place a quick look, his eyes not having a problem with the low light. However, it was his nose that caught his attention. He never even noticed Bronan smashing the chest, as he closed in on the roasting food. "Ugh, that smells terrible!" he said. "I hope it's not human... probably some rat meat or whatever junk the goblins eat". Taking a closer look, he tried to check if he could discern what kind of meat was cooking (Profession: Cook, result 16). If it was cattle, chicken or similar livestock, they had certainly found the source of this region's troubles.

As Rowan and Bacon inspect the fire, they determine that the meat on the pit is indeed rat meat. And while edible, best avoided due to lack of cooking skills on the goblins part.

Bacon runs through his mental list of creatures that are often found with goblins. However the minions of such beings are generally fairly small, anything larger would have left a noticeable track for the group to see. The sudden realization that no tracks have been found hits Bacon hard. Perhaps these goblins where not the masters, but the pawns in a much larger scheme. It could be that the beast that had been terrorizing the villages was just another piece in a much larger puzzle. What exactly was going on here?

Nas keeps watch over the forest. The sun is setting fast, and the forest is eerily still. Gorth stands beside him, dagger in hand, ready for anything that may try to surprise them..

As Flo peers deeper into the caves, she notices that the goblins had been working with picks and various tools in an attempt to seal the cave entrance with rubble. Seeing past that she spies the bodies of numerous goblins. Some even lie beneath the rubble. On closer inspection while some goblins are garbed similarly to those who attacked them, others wear much finer clothing, and the weapons they had once held in much better shape than those they had just fought. A curious puzzle. Why would these goblins be attacking each other, and why would the ones they had encountered be attempting to seal the cave? She turns just in time to see Bronan heft his club over the chest.

Bronan deals a crushing hit to the lock, an expert blow narrowly missing the chest itself. Its contents are mostly typical goblin treasures. Pieces of bone, the skins from the rats they where cooking, shiny stones. But resting on top of the pile of filth there are three vials. Two appear empty, yet one still holds a mysterious liquid within it.

Those inside the cave gather around Bronan as he raises the vial to inspect it in the fire light. Trusting Nas and Gorth to watch for any dangers.

Bacon looked at the rubble and goblin corpses. "I have a theory here" he began thinking out loud. "I thought the black tooth came from a beast under the goblins' control, like a wolf or warg, but perhaps this... thing, whatever it is, has the goblins on the leash instead. Maybe the ones that attacked us were trying to seal the monster inside and were attacked by those still loyal to it. That would explOH, OH, OH, IS THAT A POTION? Lemme see lemme see lemme see". The gnome hopped more than walked towards the hulking barbarian. "Now, gents, this may be a powerful tonic or a deadly poison" he said trying to sound deadly serious, as he rolled up his sleeves. "Please, let the expert handle this"

(Not sure about the relevant skill, it's probably Alchemy. Also, if handed the potion, Bacon will cast Detect Magic and focus until he can identify the spell school involved in brewing the potion)

Bronan holds the pretty liquid up to the firelight in his meaty hands and peers at it. He shrugs and hands it over to Tinybro when he asks for it. "If it's juice, I want it back..."

He then hangs his hammer back on his belt and stands up before hoisting his greatclub back to his right shoulder. Resting it there, he leaves the cave briefly and returns with his sack of belongings. The barbarian then rests the sack on the ground, kneels down, reaches in, and pulls out a 1 foot long iron rod with a gold tip. He then strikes the tip of the rod on the ground and it bursts to light, brightening the cave around them. He sticks the other end back into the sack with the bright end sticking out and hoists the sack back to his shoulder with his left hand. Without a word, he stands and starts heading deeper into the cave, past the dead goblins, seemingly unconcerned with their mystery.

Flo examines the debris. This battle is quite strange. Why would goblins care about fine clothes, let alone wear them? The death toll didn't look good. If they were trying to seal the entrance and this many fine garbed goblins lay dead, how many are behind the make-shift  blockade? Curious.

Flo turns back to ask if someone will come take a look. He eyes find the hammer flowing down smoothly threw the air, contacting the lock and sparing the chest.

"Ah?" She let the protest drop. The chances of goblins using anything of interest were minute. "Impressive hit, Bronan." When the vial came into view, she perked up considerably.

"Oh my, what an interesting turn." She walks back to the chest to examine the vial. But Bacon comes - bouncing? Yes. Bouncing over full of exclamations of expertise and excitement. Well, I suppose he might know.

"Nice blow, Bronan. You are indeed in control of those magnificent muscles." She looks to Bacon.

"So, what say you? Healing, poison, spell?" FLo didn't often wait with baited breath, but it was the most exciting thing to happen in months.

"Bronan. The path is hindered by rubble and dead bodies. Don't get goblin goop in your toes! And they're dressed quite nicely. Some of them anyway." She heads to the rubble again, listening for Bacon's determination.

"Tell me what you find, Bacon. Can we use it?" She looks to Bronan, not sure if he cares about the dead goblins or just wants to press on, searching for the bigger monster.

Rowan is joined by bacon and both agree that it is best left alone. Bacon bounces off to inspect the small vile. The small one is an odd one that seems easily excitable. Rowan doesn't care for the small vile. Rowan doesn't give the nicely dressed small green things a second thought. As he sees Bronan move deeper into the cave he decides to join him there might be bigger things to chop in half. "Bronan might you like some company?"

"See anything or hear anything with those elven ears o' yers?" the dwarf questioned. "With all the commosion in the cave, I'd wager any lingering goblin outside would have made their move by now... none to bright really."

Bacon discovers that the small vial is actual a potion to cure minor injuries! What where goblins doing with such a thing?

Bronan and Rowan move to explore deeper into the caves, Flo catches up and follows, hoping to delve deeper as well. But making sure she stands behind the two.

Nas and Gorth move to cover the groups back as they descend deeper into this mysterious cavern.

Seeing that everyone is moving on Bacon moves to catch up. He finds them standing before a large door, this cave is without a doubt man made. Some debris where placed in front of it by the more ragged goblins. Bronan squats down and hefts the largest piece of debris over his shoulder and then tosses it back behind the group. Opening the way for the group. Why where the filthy goblins trying to keep the finely dressed ones in? And what where the smartly attired ones running from?

The group decides to proceed through the door and is greeted by a radiant golden glow. It originates from a large ornate fountain in the center of the room. Numerous runes cover it, and faint talking noises can be heard.

A door sets in the wall to the right, and a pathway that appears to have been dug out from the rock is across from where the door the group just passed through.

Flo enters the room cautiously. Goblins never seemed that bright before, but the whole nice clothes thing was really confusing.

First, she scans the ceiling to make sure nothing drops down on her. She wasn't much for being underground so... She listens for any activity not associated with her group. When she decides it's safe to move forward, she walks along the wall to her left and works her way around. She searches for doors, traps, and any puzzle that might seem interesting to her. She leaves the fountain for the others to check out.

Going deeper underground makes Bacon feel more familiar and comfortable, at least for the most part. There is something... else inside him that would much rather be outside in the forest and fresh air. As soon as the party moves towards the next room and Flo strides ahead to scout the area, he notices the fountain and its golden glow. With potential risk to his own well-being, he slips by and under the others to make it up front, then stretches out his tiny arms. The huge frame of Broan behind him makes his attempt to hold everyone back beyond comical, but hopefully they are surprised and careful enough to stumble a bit and hold their marching. "This fountain is clearly magical" he whispers, probably influenced by the sight of Flo checking for traps. "I shall examine its nature from afar first" he adds, bringing his hands to the side of his head as he concentrates on looking as mystical as possible.

Bronan lets the others slip by and into the room to start looking about while he eyes the fountain warily. He has no interest in going near talking water. Instead he moves closer to the door on the right, listening for any voices on the other side. He resists the urge to try kicking the door down until the others are paying attention, not only so that they are ready for what might come through, but also so that they are ready to witness the might of his glorious quads.

Rowan enters the room after everyone else as he was distracted by his own thoughts about nothing important. Rowan scans the room and checks what the others are doing. upon viewing the fountain Rowan notices that there are ancient runes carved into it. As a northerner Rowan has studied many runic languages. Rowan moves towards the fountain to see if he can puzzle out the meaning of the runes to see if it will provide any information as to what this place is. Rowan stays far enough away from the fountain to just read the runes as he is wary of the faint noises.

As Flo moves about the room, keeping an eye out for anything nefarious, she pays close attention to the voices. She determines that they are coming from the path that has been cut through the rock. The room is clear of any hazards, however she does find a small sack in one corner. As she opens it she finds 6 coins of unknown origin, all of different shape and size.

Bacon puts on a wonderful display. The group is not quite sure if he is actually doing anything of use or just making it all up. However he does determine that the fountain is magical. The runes inscribed on the side are themselves magical, and as one stares they continuously alter themselves.

Bronan prepares himself for yet another fascinating display of strength. He stands in front of the doors squeezing his glutes and stretching out the muscles in his legs.

As Rowan stares at the runes he begins to recognize familiar patterns. Time has damaged the delicate magics but he can make out most of its content. The runes tell of how this is the lair of a powerful wizard, owner of numerous powerful artifacts. All are welcome, and boons will be granted to those who give tribute. Rowan looks down into the water, he can just see the outlines of a variety of coins that lie within.

Gorth and Nas continue to cover the rear, trusting that their comrades have everything under control.
