So, I'm Jackson, from Australia. I've been lurking around nerd fitness and getting the emails for around two years now, but I decided it's finally time to bite the bullet and sign up to the forums, so here I am.

I was lifting weights up until April when a I sustained a pretty severe wrist injury, unfortunately I didn't realise how severe and continued to use it, and injure it more, three months down the track I figured something really wasn't right, which leads me to my current situation of 8 weeks through 12 weeks of wearing a wrist brace 24/7. So as I'm getting it off soon, I figured I had better start putting my battle plan into action.

I want to be a ranger, putting it straight out there. I think I'm an endomorph, I'm six-three and weigh around 230 pounds, but one of my buddies who's been into fitness for a long time tells me I'm a mesomorph, regardless, I'm gonna' be a ranger. I'm also hyperflexsive and have a terrible back, but I'm getting all that sorted and am on my way to where I want to be. When my wrist brace is off I'm going tostart lifting again, and get back into the archery club I had to leave because of the injury, and starting martial arts classes (so I guess I'm a monk-ranger). I think that's all physically okay for me to, but if anyone has any guidance/past experience with similar things to me, I'm all ears.

Anyways, that's my battle plan.

I'm a nerd through and through. I love The Lord of the Rings (and pretty much anything else Tolkien wrote), Hellboy (or really anything Mignola-esque), sci-fi and Batman. Drawing is potentially my biggest passion, it does contend with writing quite competitivly, and in the future I hope to write and illustrate my own books and comics. Based on all that, I believe this is the best place for me to chase my fitness goals. If anyone has any suggestions for me, or anything else for that matter, I absolutelly want to hear it.

Here's to the rebellion!

Welcome!  I hope your wrist finishes healing quickly so you can get started, sounds like you're pretty motivated and already have a decent plan ahead of you.  Setting those goals will really help this motivation that you have at the beginning continue on, I feel.  Have you had a chance to see what martial arts you have available near you?

Thanks! Yeah I have. It's a place that teaches Arnis, Escrima and another one that I can't remember the name of, I know it's Philippino though. They teach them as a whole program rather than just one, because the bloke who runs the place reckons just one isn't good enough to properly defend your self/win a contest.

I was reading a thread in the Monk section the other day, and there seemed to be a fair amount of support for Philippino Martial Arts.  I haven't looked into it personally, but from what little I've read it does sound like a great workout and incredibly practical.  A lot of weapon work too.

Yeah, they have heaps of emphasis on weapons training from what the fellow at the centre told me. You're right, they seem to focus a lot more on practicality and efficiency rather than flashy spins and stuff, more along the lines of something like krav maga, as near as I can tell.
