Hey ya'll i'm Michael. I'm brand new to fitness and dieting but I came across NF and I just felt like this would be the best place to start. I just turned 19 and I just don't like what I see in the mirror, so its time for a change.

Right now i'm 5'9" and I weight 188 lbs, but the problem is its all fat. I don't eat a lot, but when I do, its usually fast food (working at Domino's doesn't help either). I get winded pretty quickly doing everyday things now and it just makes me feel like crap. I would like to put some muscle on, but still be able to run 5 miles if I wanted too.

I love playing games, particularly shooters. I love Call of Duty and I got the new Halo Master Chief Collection (to bad I can barely play either online right now lol). I also like rpg's too.

If anybody has any advise for me, please comment because I will need a lot of help. Thanks for reading.

Sweet, welcome man! (haha i am a michael also)

Best advise? start small and don't over do anything. This relates to food and exercise. Small changes like drinking one less soda a week, or walking 5minutes more every week will add up quick. Do research while you are making the changes and learn what works best for you.

Try different things in fitness and see what you like. Running, lifting, rock climbing, Larping, find what you enjoy, so its not a matter of sticking to it, but a matter of not being able to get enough of it.

Hi Michael

New here too with both a few years and fair few pounds on you. If I can impart one thing form my personal experience it is to back up what the other Michael said...Start small, walk before you can run...if you throw yourself in too hard and make too many changes at once you will slowly tail of and give up as it just feels too much.

I think this place is going to be good, fun and informative!

I think some of the hardest parts for me will be to start small and watch what I eat. I already walk a good bit during my day, so when I get on a treadmill I don't really want to walk I just want to start running but then I get tired before i even get close to two minutes. Also its hard for me to not eat bad because I never have eaten healthy foods on a regular basis. I've kinda just learned to grab the quickest meal that tastes good and not think twice about it. Is there anything you guys did to help you stop other than just not doing it?

I highly recommend planning your week prior to it beginning.. if you have a tendency to grab whenever you're just feeling the need to eat but don't want to make anything, or want something "tasty" do some research on some cooking site, and pre-prepare them.. so all you need to do is put it in the crock pot, in the oven, or boil in a pot :)  It also helps to have some snacks that you can just grab and go. I try to always have peanuts on hand, or some homemade trail mix in bags. I always have water and snacks in my bag/truck.. so whenever I'm out and about I know I have some snacks to ge tme by until I can get home and make something. And the water helps conquer the hunger feeling I find.

But start Small.. and work towards BIG! =) And expect failures, just make sure you pick yourself back up =) And seek help and encouragement from other members.. that's what we're all here for.

Best of luck! I am also a bit of a gamer myself.

I did 5k run a few years back and to help me prep for it I got myself a Gymboss timer. This lil gadget is great, I set up an on time and off time. I started off brisk walk for 30 seconds and then jog 30 seconds, as you get used to it you just alter the on time, eventually you will be walking seconds and running minutes, then you can do away with the walking and alter jog pace to run pace, run pace to sprint, then your looking at distance and that will also go up with your fitness capabilities.

I did my first 5k in 36mins a combination of walking and running round Arthurs Seat....I didn't think that was bad for a fat lad! :highly_amused:

With regards to eating well, find health versions of what you like.

Ultimately this is mental as well a physical (and sometime this can be harder to deal with). you are going to have to make changes...you are going to have to learn stuff and this will never end, as you improve (and you will) your goals will be achieved and no ones formed meaning new changes and new stuff to learn.

I don't think there will be one person on here that will tell you its easy...if they do, they don't belong here or are liars :highly_amused:
