Top Ten!

I know I should come into this really excited, but I actually find woots horrifically hard to write because I never think I'm good enough, but part of my challenge is to have more self-confidence and hold it together, so here I am.

I started lifting in March 2013 and started competing in powerlifting in February 2014. I've done four competitions so far, three in Scotland and one (the British Classic Championships) in London.

In my first competition, I squatted 85kg, benched 50kg and deadlifted 100kg (a massive PB for me).

I got a coach, I worked hard, I did what I was told and I stuck at it (even when I ended up crying during a few bad deadlift sessions).

In September's British Classic, I squatted 120kg, benched 65kg (failed 70kg fairly close to lock out) and deadlifted 120kg.

So in my first year of competition, I added 75kg to my total.

I also went from 11th of 19 women in Scotland to (currently) 3rd of 33.

This week, I found out that I'm currently ranked 7th in my weight class in the whole of the UK.

Okay, so I'm not number 1 in the UK or even in my weight class (number 1 in the UK overall is also number 1 in Scotland so I'm not taking that slot for a while...) but it's a big start and there's lots I can improve on.

Much rambling, little sense, but this is more of an attempt to remind myself that I'm doing well than really a woot... if that makes sense.

WOW. I am seriously blown away by that, and your video.

First of all, mega congratulations! 7 in the entire UK? That's PHENOMENAL.

Second of all, I just started doing some lifting a month ago, and just got my squats up to 34 kg (don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of that). You are a huge inspiration.

Thanks for posting this.

It's helpful to read, wonderful to celebrate and a good marker for where you are heading.

Thank you! There were a lot of women (and men) who inspired me to keep going (particularly on NF) when things got rough and I'm really glad that I can pass that on. :)

Great job!  That's super awesome and you should be proud of your amazing progress.

I wanna be you when I grow up!

Never grow up, just age. :-p

Damn, you looked like you had that 70k. Bench. Was there a setup fail? It looked like you came out of the bottom slow and gave up on yourself.

Anyhow, well done.

Yeah, I just completely lost drive. I'd struggled with 67.5kg the week before so I wasn't hugely surprised that I failed it but I was trying to steal a record from someone. :)

I think as I've got further along the line I've become more hypercritical of myself. I need to step back and appreciate what I'm achieving.

Good work!  Rememebr bench is all about the set up and getting stroppy with bad spotters.

(And the competition is really heating up in my category with 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall, both equipped and raw, being in the same weight category.)

I really need to steal some of your bench magic. I think I'm getting more consistent but one out of three seems to go wrong in every comp. Grr.
