While trying to also keep it up to date at http://capthandsome.tumblr.com/, I will also try to keep it up to date here.

 

Today’s workout:

 

Chin ups:

4 (at body weight)

Barbell Squats:

10 × 45 lbs

10 × 65 lbs

10 × 85 lbs

Need to start at 105 next time

Barbell Bench Press:

10 × 45 lbs

10 × 65 lbs

10 × 75 lbs

Start with 85 next time

 

Seated Cable Rows (two armed):

10 × 55 lbs

10 × 60 lbs

10 × 60 lbs

Start at 65 next time

 

This is my first shot at weight lifting in 13 months, and I don't know where I left off or how much strength I've lost since I stopped.

141203 Taste of the Knightly Arts (aka Intro to Longsword) 12 of 12

 

I'm at this weird point: I want to continue, but I've got grad school. Ergh. Also no new classes until January, except for the two or three small group classes we need to get the invite to the swordfighting guild.

I should also log my weight. I'm going to do that once a week, on Saturdays, because any shorter is really just asking for disappointment.

Last week I was 197.5 lb and today I was 196. I also checked my check up information from a month ago, and they weighed me at 203. So, that's a thing.

I was going to say that, if I were to have a goal as far as my weight is concerned, it would be what Solid Snake's weight was in Metal Gear 2, since we share a height there (his keeps shifting). But then I looked it up and it's only 75 kg (165 lbs) which seems slightly out of reach at the moment.

I'm a little confused as to why my presses are about the same as my squats. I may have the weight of the barbell wrong?

How's your core strength bro? I have had clients in the past that have had this same issue, and it was do to a weak core or lower back. Not saying that this is the case for you brother, I just want to help you figure this out so we can move pasted it.

Warm-up (dynamic stretching and some quadrupedal movement)

Chin-ups:

  • 4 (with 4 inverted)
  • 2 (with 6 inverted)
  • 1 (with 6 inverted)

Deadlift:

  • 3 Ã— 8 Ã— 155 lbs (keep the same weight, but work on form next time)

Dumbbell Shoulder Press:

  • 2 Ã— 10 Ã— 27.5 lbs
  • 9 Ã— 27.5 lbs (couldn't finish ten)

Machine Rowing:


  • 5 minutes, at low intensity while I waited for a guy to finish with the deadlift area

  • 3 Ã— 8 Ã— 155 lbs

And then, I'm about to head to an hour of Ambrazare (Mediæval grappling) and then an hour and a half of Armizare (14th century Italian Broadsword)

Yesterday's workout:

1 hr Abrazare—Some of the best cardio I've ever had; we did dagger disarming skills, and it was about 45 minutes of stabbing and blocking back an forth

1 hr Armizare

I've had the best posture today as my back muscles are stiff with the DOMS. This is great as my posture is usually bad in class and I need to practice.

I'm glad my chin-ups are improving; I'd like them to improve faster, but I should be able to get awesome at them at this point. Also, my hand stand is improving. It's still really weak, but I'm starting to feel my balance.
