Monday:

BJJ Combatives/MACP: No gi, worked mount escapes, rolled with the professor, tried to stand up and escape. This normaly screws up BJJ sports types, but the professor healhooked me and put me in a full body lock. Good training for a real world scenario. Next time I stand up I will get WAY BACK. no evening work out.

Friday

Took before picture....UCKH. starting eating discipline. 1 sugar soda per day. reduce snacking. slowly go palieo. Was excited about every part of this plan except eating discipline. Narcissism vs Hedonism BATTLE BEGINS!

MACP/BJJ Combatives: Standup Day

Striking: Worked basic Muay Thai ish drills, leg checks, jab/cross/Hook combos (I don't like strait punches to scull, I like Japanese Jujitsu strikes much better-Bone to Flesh, Flesh to Bone). HOWEVER, no doubt BJJ/Muay Thai/Krav Maga blocking works best. I'm still skill level zero at this, I need all the training I can get.

Throwing/takedowns: Worked hip throws/bear hug defense. I can't keep my feet together on a hip throw with a live partner, belt or arm. Judokas probably understand what I'm talking about. Bear hug defense came natural, thank gosh

Sat

Didn't work legs/shoulders on Friday, wasn't feeling it.

Spent an hour and a half at a trampoline park with my son. I'm counting that as my parkour for the week, as well as a second leg day. My landing mechanics are screwy, between a screwed up right leg, lack of flexibility, and about 40lbs of fat around my midsection, I'm pulling my lower back/hammies all out of wack.

Got home, stretched, did 20xInside Slap Kicks and 20x Outside Slap Kicks per leg (80 total), that pulled my lower back/hammies back in line. My back feels much better.

Started shoulder workout, my left shoulder was not into it. Don't know when/where I torked it, but I've had about 40 breakfalls in the last 24hours between BJJ training and the Trampoline place, so that might have something to do with it. Had to settle with just doing the trap portion, 3xsets of shrugs, 3 positions, 3x sets of upright rows.

Week one, all goals complete to some degree.

Trained about practical shooting/defensive pistol (airsoft). Still pulling high and to the right, like I have my entire life. Great shot group, just an inch off center at 10 feet. It's defensive pistol, not sniper practice, but frustrating none the less. Eye muscle memory going to front sight post, so training is working.

Grades for the week:

Combatives: B- (missed one class due to meeting, showed at end of class)

Parkour: C (did not train very hard, did an hour and a half at the trampoline place)

Functional Fitness: A, got in everything I was healthy to train.

Defensive Pistol: B, did not train the full hour.

Monday

No Gi Jujitsu/MACP

Worked options from the half guard.

Rolled with a purple belt, tried a catch wrestling compression I saw on TV last night. It....Did....Not....Work...

Thought for the day...Sometimes it's not the move that Bull$hit, it's the guy trying the move.

Woke up with a fever, went to work anyway because that's the kind of obsessive jerk I am. Discovered a gaping hole in our business process, spent the day fixing it between meetings. Couldn't break away for Parkour after pulling an organizational fire alarm. Argh.

Kids have been giving the wife a bunch of grief this week, I may have to trade some str/con for wis/char and support her a little more.

Is it OK to work out with a fever if your not on public equipment?

No excuse for not stretching...I think I got 30 minutes until putting the kids to bed, I can at least get a stretch in.

Stop typing and execute plan.

......

Ok, thirty minutes later: Raining outside, slight fever, kids occupied. pulled out the backup door bar and knocked out some assisted pullups/lat pulldowns in multiple position, then assisted rows, multiple positions. Jujitsu tomorrow, if I did back AND bi's I would have nothing left for class, so I quit while I was ahead.

Kids/wife didn't even notice I left the room. +1 stealth. Might go to a shorter strength workout five day a week. 20-30 minutes five days a week may be less drama than 45-60 minutes 3 days a week.

Still running a fever.

Jujitsu/Combatives: Testing for level 1 MACP in January. Trained Gi today, worked basic chokes from the Gi. Awesome. Couldn't full role because I'm still sick. Came home with no injury. No strength training today.

Skills/Energy: Parkour Flow

Warmed up with a little Capo Ginga, did some Role' and Cartwheels, Escheva's, Inside and Outside Slapkicks, Roundhouse kicks with hand touching the sand, etc.  I can imagine it was very ugly to watch, but since I can't see it, who cares.

Started working some parkour vault progressions on a low wall. Seems like I'm going backward. Frustrated with only being able to do the simplest vaults. Frustration is not the point. There is no real test. SO

I've modified my parkour goals a bit. I'll let the skills come from just moving. I'm not going to "train" at parkour anymore. I'm just going to flow, even if that means I can only safety vault or other low line style moves, then so be it. I'm 48 years old and 26% body fat; just low line flowing is awesome at my age/size.

Strength training: Chest

Wide grip dips, 1set, shoulder acting up, moved on...

Neutral grip Perfect Pushup (~standard bench), no rotation because of shoulder. 3 sets (each set muscle failure+3 negatives to simulate a spotter).

High/Low Perfect Pushup (~inclined/declined "bench), no rotation. 3 sets each side to muscle failure, no negatives. Had to go to knees on second and third sets.

Wide Arm Paper Plate Pushups (~pec flys): Had to start at knees and still had to do negatives, 3 sets of 3 each.

Skills: Jujitsu/MACP Standup

Pummeling and pummel drills

Knee strikes from the pummel and knee defense. Slight turn takes the knee out, amazing.

Double underhook/bearhug clinches and takedowns from front, side, rear.

Put the gloves on and boxed for a few minutes

Did not do well, but I KEPT MY HEAD FORWARD AND CHIN DOWN THE ENTIRE TIME.

Striker vs Grappler Drills, one guy with boxing goves, one guy trying to get a double underhook. Harder to pummel with boxing gloves on, but no impossible.

Fear of getting hit in the face getting better. Fear of getting shin kicked in the thighs, worse.

Oh, another milestone. I actually got an Osoto Gari in during sparring. Since I knocked myself out trying to pull a bad Osoto Gari when I was a kid, I was always a bit nervious obouth that. But we had the "imballence" they always talk about in Judo/Jujitu. We were going diagonal (me forward, opponent back), and the osoto gari just happened naturally. Little victories.

Striking yesterday creating soreness in neck. Continued fever + Hangover,  I may not finish strength/Xtraining this week.  Also, broke eating discipline twice in a row with more than one sugar'd soda a day.

Didn't think I was going to do anything today, but I did.

Did a 1 mile run for time, under 9 minutes, that gave me several achievements and I got to level 4.

Did dumbbell sumu deadlifts (clean and press), 40% body weight 2sets of 5reps. Almost no strain whatsoever on muscles, but because of medical issues I'm going to pay for it tomorrow. Being 30% Disabled is better than 100%, I'm going to have to keep that in mind.

Worked shoulders with favorite routine, (flys at different angles). My shoulders are relatively strong and healthy, I didn't push anything too hard. If I can get a bi/tri workout tomorrow I will get the achievement for the week. Very Happy.

I did the metrics for the freaking Academy level points, and I wish I hadn't. It's one think to kind of think you suck at something, it's another thing to get it in numbers.

Chest=48 Inches
Waist=48 Inches

Mild fever continues. Locals call it the "crud", not enough to stop work but just enough to make you feel "bla".

Monday

Skills: Combatives/BJJ: Worked escapes from the side mount. Some were awesome. I will no longer be able to stay in the side mount with the other white belts just because i'm heavy. They can all roll me now.

Functional Fitness: No training, honestly smoked from skills training.

Tuesday

Functional Fitness: Back in the training program at work. Trainer talked to me about consistency and that if I wasn't consistant I wasn't going to progress safely. I told him I would check my ego and stay with lighter weights even if the other guys were progressing faster.

Warmup/Pillar Prep/Movement Prep

Total Body Block: Granny Toss/Chest Pass-MB/Leg Lowering= picked heaviest weight, kept up with everyone else.

Primary/Secondary Block: Pushup Pos Y's/BB Deadlift/ 95 lbs, well below half body. worked on form, checked ego

Rotational/Cary Block: PB Plank Rotation Stirs/Pallof press. Can now do 15 rotations each without strain.

Auxillary Block: Hip THrusters SL Bench/BU KB Deep Squat-Bilat/Hip Abduction Side Lying. Learned what I was doing wrong with Hip Thrusters, toes up! This will save my knees in the future.

Energy System: 1x 25 yard prowler push, 1 lap parkour around office, made it about half way before it became unsafe, sprinted the rest.

Thur-No training, job interview. The interview went will, won't know for another month if I got the job. Changing jobs would be bitter-sweet.

I did not eat lunch because I did not want to go into the interview with a food stain. Then when the interview was over I supersized McDonalds. Then went home an total lost all eating discipline for the night. Food is not a reward, it is a function. Like sleep. I should not have skipped lunch.

Fri-Early xmas, no training. Eating discipline slowly recovering.

weekend. Fell...Off...Wagon...Hard.

I did manage to not eat out of the box.

Anyway, week ended with goals at 33% Jujitsu, 25% on strength training, 20% on Parkour, 0% on shooting and I fell off the wagon on eating discipline so hard I'm counting the week as 0%.

Jujitsu setbacks were all because of life events, not personal failure. Strength Training setback partially due to increased family focus, trading STR/DEX/CON for WIS/CHA. However I could have done better.

Even factoring in Xmas for eating discipline lapses, still not acceptable.

Even though waist line is not an official goal, it would be a nice side effect.

This week will not achieve all goals because of holidays.

It is what it is.

I'm still able to pay bills, nice house, car works, family is healthy, kids making good grades. Critical things in life all functioning as designed. Many people in the world would trade with me in a heart beat.

Sigh.

Going to take some of my own advice and go a little easy on myself. Changing eating discipline (unrated quest) to 50% success. I was on the wagon for at least half the week. Should give myself credit for that.

So, final score for the week:

Combatives/BJJ=33%-No Fault=A

Parkour=50%, life distractors=B

Shooting=0%, no excuse=F

Strength Training=25%, life distractors=B

Life Quest=Kid Time Outdoors=10%, no excuse=C

Eating Discipline=50%, challenging week/still no excuse=Unrated

Almost didn't make Combatives/Jujitsu this morning due to general feeling sorry for myself.

Walked into class, took one look at the guys grappeling and said "F it" and had a great role.

I need more gas in the gas tank, I can't roll for a full 15 minutes. One of the purple belts said I wasn't breathing right, and most of the realy good MMA guys I know are great at breathing during grappleing, so I'm going to start working on that.
