Mass storage MP3 player: Suggestions

Hi all

 

Given the recent demise of the Apple classic Ipod, I have had a look and cant see any large capacity units for sale. Do any of the heroic nerds out there have any suggestions of items to look at?

If you already have a smartphone, see if it's sdxc compatible. You can get a 128gb sd card and throw plenty of music on that. (not quite a 160GB ipod classic, but then again, there's nothing saying you couldn't carry multiple cards if your collection's really big).

What works for me: I have downloaded all of my cd's and converted all of my albums onto a terabyte hard drive and use a 2gb Sansa Sandisk that I just clear and load up on music all the time, yes there are times that I'm looking for a certain album or group that's not on there but for the most part it works perfect for me, 30hrs of music gets me through the day.

If you already have a smartphone, see if it's sdxc compatible. You can get a 128gb sd card and throw plenty of music on that. (not quite a 160GB ipod classic, but then again, there's nothing saying you couldn't carry multiple cards if your collection's really big).

Maybe it will get past amount soon. I would definably consider doing that (I think I now have 200gb of music on my computer now).

I think sdxc can theoretically go up to a terrabyte or two, just depends on how quickly they develop to it and whether there's a demand for it. I'm hoping trends toward 4k video cameras and large sensor camerast create that demand eventually.

Looks like I am just going to go down the smart phone option.

 

A lot of the units out there are pricey for what they are (and store) and I believe my phone will take some substantial sized cards.

Android smartyphone + biggest memory card it'll support.  Use the money you save to get a great pair of headphones.

Looks like you can get up to 32gb in there, plus the 8 that it comes with stock.  I'd assume half of that 8 is system files, though, since my HTC Desire 601 has around the same and is probably comparable specs-wise.

Oohhh this is EXACTLY what I needed to hear!!  I'm working on a new workout playlist but didn't want to burn up my data plan if I was away from WiFi - duh Shaarawy, your phone has an SD slot! XD
