Hey folks,

I typed out an huge hello message yesterday, turns out I don't function well late at night, who'd have thought!?

Anyway, I'm a 32 year-old, happily married, stay at home mom of two boys. I've been a RPGamer a decade and then some, and in recent years PC- and console gamer as well. I love about everything else those survival/build-up games (7 days to die, starbound), but followed by a close second: team play (Mechwarrior:Online). At the gaming table I've usually gone for the Druid, Mechanic, Shaman flavoured classes, going for supporting the team above doing the tanking or killing. I can tank, if we need that, but go for the more maneuverable, think-outside-the-box approaches if I am free to do that.

Recent changes and how I found here... I found paleo years ago, but lacked the commitment to go for what I wanted for myself, bringing excuse after excuse to my mind instead of looking for solutions. A four-headed family doing ok on one income is a scramble at times, but with some careful changes and monitoring we're trying it now.

Not 100% because of a lot of reasons, these are the first coming to mind:

  • a.) I'm not a fanatic, nor do I believe there to be One Twue WayTM to do any given thing.
  • b.) I have a few things (cheese, salami, english muffins...) that for now are cut from my diet, but will eventually find their way back into it, maybe.
  • c.) the "one day a week I refuse to worry about foods at all" mentality does seem like an okay approach.

Short term goals

Easter Monday I started switching my diet (= the way I eat, not to confuse with "to diet", I don't like the later) to more or less paleo. Goal for now (until the end of the month: check how feasible financially as well as time-intensively it is for me to eat paleo while my three men eat as before (ish).

Next parallel step is the physical things I'm changing: I've been dancing Oriental Bellydance for nearly 3 years now, I'm doing okay in medium level class, but the overall lack of fitness, I'm severely overweight (206 lbs on a 5'5'' frame), do limit me at times. And the thought of carrying my four year-old smaller child around without strain, really does sound great. I'm currently working on a body weight workout routine every other day, walking for a minimum of 10 minutes on the off days, but my notes suggest a slight trend that the off-day-walks are growing longer, without me intending them to. win!

Holding this pattern is my current goal.

I have one dumbbell, a 2-8 kg thing that I am playing with atm, gonna see where things lead. (no plans to add gym, or buy any equipment... maybe a pull-up bar when I lost some weight and gained some strength...)

Finding my way here on the day a new 6 week challenge starts sounds like "now is as good a time as there is" so I'm gonna think on quests and goals for a day or two and head over there next.

I'm glad I found you guys and look forward to some discussions and exchange of knowledge.

Looks like you've got everything under control!

Heya Nedwin, yes things are going places. I'm currently doing physical therapy for an arm/shoulder thing that's coming from my cervical spine. Just yesterday my therapist encouraged me to get back to training, so in good spirit I did 18mins of yoga this morning, and one 30sec plank, yay, babysteps.

I am planning to apply for an apprenticeship and learn a trade, but things aren't that cooperative on that front, sadly. Sitting down is still very painful for any period over 10-20mins.

Nutrition is good though, and healing is making progress too, so that's good.

Everything else will come in time.
