New recruit and first ever post in an online forum

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Although I have been following nerdfitness for a while now. I think it has been around 4 years since I first stumbled upon nerdfitness. I have used the various articles and information to gear myself to level up my life. Although I have all the information, and I know what it is that I have to do. So far I haven't been able to reach the level that I want. I climb one step and fall two...

I have never written anything about me or any words in any online forum till date. I am hoping against all hopes that the awesome online community here helps me in fulfilling my dreams of a healthier happier me! I am also hoping that perhaps my story of procrastination year after year might inspire someone to take matters into their hands and improve their life as well.

It was never like the way it is now. In high school I was pretty sporty, but since university I have constantly gained weight and forgotten all about training, playing sports etch. I live all by myself and with the addition of a hectic work life, I am left with little time to focus on myself. About two years ago, two of my new friends helped me to start going to gym for the first time in my life. Through them I was able to develop the ability to do push-ups and somehow manage to learn how to squat, deadlift and Olympic lifting. Through this entire process I learned that I hate running, and I certainly enjoy lifting weights, but my resolution is never strong enough to push me to the gym. Last year together with them I started cross-fit, although at the time I was keenly aware that it was something that I will certainly not be able to do, I managed to get through the daily workouts when/if I went to the box.

I started this entire process when I weighed 120 kg and my waist was 40 inches. I still am 120kg and my waist is 40 inches, but somehow I am stronger. So there is still hope.

By introducing myself here, I hope to gain the ability to stick to my goals and resolution and follow a regime to help me reach my goals faster. I wish to change my lifestyle, but at the same time I am a foodie, and love to eat good food. So there in itself lies a contradiction. I have to weigh round about 90-95 kg to be considered healthy for my age,

Since today, I have vowed to eat Paleo , and it is extremely hard. I had lunch that was Palo only vegetables and meat, but dinner was a bit trickier. I followed the simple chicken recipe on this website, but for making a side of vegetables, I kinda mixed whatever I thought would go well together, and it did not taste that good, but it was not bad either. I would like to gain the ability to cook better Paleo, so that my hunger is satisfied. Right now it has been around two hours since dinner, and I am getting uncontrollably hungry, and I know that I will eat some junk from somewhere. I have thrown out all unhealthy food from my house but there is always something that is not good in large quantities. And I will manage to eat it, like a whole watermelon, or a bag of nuts. All of them are Paleo, but not in large quantities.

So here's hoping that I manage to stick to my goals and keep myself accountable for my own life

Best wishes and luck to all! :)

Welcome to the rebellion!

About the Paleo diet: if you stick to lean meats and veggies, it's easy to under eat, while if you go with nuts, fatty meat and fruit it's easy to over eat. I suggest you try counting calories for the first week or so in order to be able to eyeball how much food you need.

Here's a handy dandy calculator to help you figure out how much you need to eat every day. A 500 calorie deficit will lead to about a pound lost per week. 1000 leads to about two pounds lost, etc.

Good luck and keep us posted!
