How's it going ladies and gents? I'm Eric! I am 23yo 5' 11" and overweight. Lol was 233lbs to be exact, recently divorced and have already dropped down to 226lbs. I haven't really done much to lose the weight besides take a walk here and there but now I want to get serious about it. I have a few questions which I hope I can get some answers to. My goal is to lose body fat and build some muscle! So here goes.

Diet: As of now uhhh it consist of nothing other then what I have in front of me which is usually crap foods like pizza, mcdonalds, chips, soda and whatnot. From my understanding that's the cause of my weight gain along with my laziness. I'm not to good at sticking to a certain diet and counting calories isn't my thing. So I thought about going about it in the sense of if I can't grow it or find it in the wild I wouldn't eat it. In other words I'd be cutting out the grains and sugars out of my diet. Any opinions on this or am I on the right path.

Exercise: Here is where I'm pretty much clueless. Due to my schedule I don't really have any time to hit the gym so all I can really do is work out from home. I have a curl bar with 40lbs worth of weights, pull up bar, comfortable sneakers and a 5 mile hiking trail behind my apartment building? Any suggestions on compound exercises or such? Like I said I'm kinda clueless here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Eric

Welcome to the rebellion, glad to have you and sad to hear about the divorce. Hope you're doing well. It sounds like you came to one of our philosophies on your own: Eat clean and Lift heavy. Sounds like you have everything you need where you live. Look at the Beginner Body Weight workout on the blog, you can easily do it at home. (not on consecutive days though, your muscles need time to recover). On alternating days, use that hiking trail. Your plan on what to eat is great. Good luck.

Hey Eric! Sounds to me like you are on the right path!  Personally I just wouldn't worry too much on the grains front, a little rice here or a sandwich there won't hurt ya if it means something instead of McDonald or pizza.  My best advice on the diet front (one I personally need to take up again) is to not over eat.  I think that is the biggest reason on why I gained weight.  Eat slowly, enjoy the food and stop when you are no longer hungry.  Not when you are stuffed.  That is how I slimmed down before and that will be my strategy again.  Eat when you are hunger, nice and simple.  Good Luck!

One of the things we've discovered at the rebellion is it's okay to eat once or twice a day. I don't make a habit out of it, but as long as what you are eating is good, and roughly the right amount, it doesn't matter if you eat it in one sitting or over the course of several installments.  Check out the blog posts on intermittent fasting. Basically your body adapts to the number of meal times you tell it to get used to. What you are doing can actually help when trying to put on muscle or gain strength, from what I understand.

If that is the case then it is probably a good idea to try and prep meals in advance so you can chow down ASAP.  Plus there is just something so gratifying about stuffing your face with something that is healthy because you have regrets about it.

Eric! Welcome to the Rebellion! Sorry to hear about the divorce, but I am overjoyed to hear that you're taking care of yourself! That mentality is the hardest thing to achieve, really. At least it was for me.

I'll back Tanktimus up on the workouts, but my biggest advice would be incremental change. I used to eat a crapton of fast food, processed foods, weird disgusting combinations of sugary and fatty foods, all of the most delicious things. My first month, I literally just cut out cereal from my diet. And lost 12 pounds. Cut something out of your diet that you can afford to lose, but not something so overwhelming that it frustrates you. And then do it again when you've got that first thing down.

Good luck! Let me know if you need any motivation!

Thanks guys! I'll definitely start prepping my meals seeing as my schedule sucks haha 4am-3pm... My biggest thing to give up is pizza and Pepsi I love that shit but I won't have a problem giving it up since it wouldn't be the first time I've had to. Is for change in my diet and exercise I'll be going with the three step method. Doing 3days, then 3 weeks then three months hopefully by the end of 3 weeks I would of kicked a couple habits to the side.

Also anyone have any quick breakfast suggestions? I usually go for left overs.

I'll be asking a lot of questions.... :D
