You, Sir, have some serious nerd cred, especially re: larping and Batroc cosplay.

 

Me: I'd like to say "read comic books" but I'm not so sure that's as nerdy as it once was. But that is high on my personal list. I also love to listen to science podcasts, and I'm something of a music theory nerd and for fun I compose small (so far) orchestral pieces.

 

Dude, you're making me doubt my own nerd cred. I'm going on a Doctor Who binge watch immediately.

My highest claim to fame is that I am married to Dr Elena Strange, so as a comic book nerd I am married to Dr Strange

 

Plus of course I lecture on Civil Rights and social justice issues as reflected in comic books

That's something I've always wanted to do, but the cosplays I'd choose would be incredibly cumbersome for a mud run.

As for me, probably the nerdiest thing I do is actual martial arts training with lightsabers.  

 

Yup, I'm an Apprentice with the Terra Prime Light Armory.    It's fun and [almost] totally realistic.

All my rats are named after sci-fi/fantasy characters.  I buy copies of books I never intend to read because they have pretty covers (so I have a reading copy and a display copy).

I once did a form of Larping called Dagorhir. There wasn't much ROLE playing in my group, just foam weapon combat.

 

I also play table top games twice a week.  It's usually Dungeons and Dragons, but sometimes Paranoia, Dark Heresy, and Pathfinder.

I'm a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism, I play computer games, I occasionally read comics, read and write fanfiction... There's probably other stuff I'm not even considering as "nerdy" right now.

Oh, I want to start teaching myself science because it wasn't something I paid attention to in school (because I didn't enjoy school) but as an adult I'm starting to have an interest in it.

It's a combination of roleplaying and creative writing, I guess, but in a pro wrestling scenario. Handlers create their characters and write promos for them, and fed heads (people who effectively run the game/world) produce shows composed of promos and matches between characters. Back in ye olde internette days when I started playing (1996), there was more of a competitive element to it with very little co-operation between handlers - often it was as simple as best roleplayer would win. As the years went on, the standard and maturity of players/writing got better, and handlers worked together, generally under the supervision of fed heads, to create more interesting and engrossing storylines between their characters. Some of the finished products nowadays could rival actual wrestling tv shows, were they to transfer over, certainly in terms of imagination and quality.

I've always wanted to be in the SCA! Bad thing is i've never lived anywhere with an active chapter. There was one set up in Oki about a year after I left, and there was one near me at one point in time, but they havent updated anything since like 2012/2013

I mostly go to the Calgary Expo, once to the Edmonton one, and now the Vancouver Expos. Calgary is hands down the best, but eventually I would love to make it to one across the border. Or to one of the gaming expos! So awesome that you speak at them!

 

I really wanted to do Larping when I still lived in Edmonton, but instead got in with one of the Medieval sword fighting groups, which was totally different but great. After I left, I realized how many Larping groups were starting up there. There's definitely been a surge

I'd love to do my full-on Sith costume.  Cloak, mask, boots, armor, and all.  But running a Tough Mudder in that after getting it all wet and heavy and muddy just sounds brutal to me.  

 

 

 

Also, I'm one of those guys that enjoys the theorycrafting behind games.  I memorize stats for WoW, and I've started theorycrafting a one-roll system for D&D, because the separate attack/damage roll system feels too cumbersome for me.

Reminds me of my early days on tge internet. I spent entirely too much time on a Starwars roleplay site. This was back when dialup+1 and windows xp were still new, haha.
