  1. I've been doing a lot of reading lately which has made me think that hunger signals throughout the day can be a result of your body simply being used to snacking, and therefore yapping like a small dog whenever it thinks its time for a treat. I've been eating healthier for a while now, and I have definitely notice a dropping off in the urges I get to eat. However there are some times when my stomach simply demands to be fed between meals with a frightening ferocity. Whenever I get even a light workout, I suddenly become ravenous! And when I say light, I mean that i just did a 20 minute beginner yoga session and I feel like I could eat 32 oz of steak. Now, I would LOVE to think to myself, "the hunger means I'm doing it right! My body needs more fuel so I should eat more!" but I am very skeptical considering the low intensity work out. Does anyone have any thoughts on this work out related hunger?
  2. Thank you both for chiming in with support! Here is my update for yesterday. Once again I managed not to have any soda. I am worried I may have picked a goal that will be too easy for me, because so far, temptation has been mild or minimal. Perhaps something more limiting would have been better. But that was only day two, and I think the weekend will be the true test in terms of liquid temptation. I'll be going to at least one party with alcohol, possibly two. Oh man. The calories are making me fat just imagining them. Yesterday was great for exercise as I did both a brief yoga session, and met my friend in the park for tennis, which satisfies my vaguely defined cardio requirements. I was panting like a puppy.
  3. Yesterday went well. The cardio was light (speed-walking around campus), so I'm not sure I'll count it into the weekly total, but the effort was made, which is miles better than usual. It was game night, and I did MUCH better than expected on my beverage busting goal. No soda passed these lips! My friend made cucumber water (water + cucumber slices in a pitcher) and it was wonderful. I even did better on avoiding the chip bowl than last week. I still ate some, but I didn't pig out, and that is a huge victory for me.
  4. Well, the challenge is half over, but I don't feel like waiting until the next one to get in on the posting goodness. I think you all will forgive me for being late Nothing too crazy. I *think* I can manage to keep it up for half as long as everyone else. I will not be leveling up at the end of this challenge, as I do not feel I will have earned it after only three weeks, but I am fine with that. The leveling can wait. Getting started on my goals can't. Goals 1. Beverage Buster! Drink absolutely no soda. Alcohol limited to two drinks per week. 2. Half an hour of cardio x3 weekly: I am leaving this one purposefully vague so that I am free to choose the form of exercise. Whether jogging, riding a bike, or jumping around to a zumba video, as long as my heart rate is up, it counts. 3. Yoga 3x weekly: Even if I only have time for a few poses at a time, I am looking forward to reintroducing this practice into my life. I haven't been putting in the effort to make time for stillness, and things have gotten about as hectic as you would expect. Side Quest: Write 500 words a day. I have a writing project that I hope to finish by the end of the year, and while 500 words is a very small amount, it sure is a lot more than 0. I have discovered from using this method in the past that it adds up fairly quickly. 1st day's update to follow.
  5. Well, I'm reporting in to say that Monday and Tuesday were horrible. I have been a total lazy butt the last two days, and yesterday I had pizza for dinner. I need to find where I put my give-a-f*ck because I have misplaced it.
  6. I ADORE Dresden. I could be nudged into running one if no one else is willing. I'm worried though about combat taking weeks to resolve. Does anyone have any ideas on streamlining it for forums?
  7. I don't think I can back Snake up enough here. I know in her place I would find such an approach 1) Flattering 2) Refreshing. Remember, women love confidence.
  8. Totally late to this thread! I would love to get in on some forum based action! I would recommend something involving the FATE system, or even a diceless system similar to Nobilis for simplicity's sake. Other than that, I'd be up for absolutely anything. I've been starved for table-top lately thanks to my recent move.
  9. Well, the weekend was not that fantastic for my challenge. I had a great time, saw my boyfriend (who lives several states away), and volunteered at the camp where I larp. We have some buildings we are working to bring up to code before the weather turns really cold. So I got to play in the dirt. We were digging ditches so that electrical lines could be buried. Hard work, but it turned out to be the only excercise I got over the past two days. When the boyfriend is around, I am much more interested in snuggling. I WAS very good about staying away from the junk food. My boy is a chronic soda-drinker, but I didn't dip into his supply. I also didn't give in to the cider donuts the Quick Check by camp had on display. Still, I was so distracted that I didn't even think about stopping to meditate. I will certainly meditate today, and I vow that tonight will be yoga night! Which reminds me, I discovered that my boyfriend spent a semester doing yoga as a warm-up for one of his theatre classes. You learn something new every day.
  10. That's easy. Just read about these guys: http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2012/09/27/161874316/who-wants-to-eat-jellyfish-omelettes-dolphin-meatballs-mouse-on-toast-these-guys
  11. I've never considered myself a Buddhist. I suppose Taoism is the philosophy I most identify with.
  12. As a side note, eating healthy is turning me into a golden retriever. Everything is the best thing ever. Like this apple. This is the best f*cking apple.
  13. Congratulations! My best buddy went air force a few years ago. I have a lot of respect for people in the military.
  14. 1. Rush - Snakes and Arrows 2. The Protomen - The Father of Death 3. Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood 4. Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick 5. Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope
  15. Your thread is fantastic. Great work so far, and good luck!
