  1. Sorry I have been MIA. I have been enjoying my trip. I certainly have not been spot on, but have been trying to keep it up. My wife had surgery the Friday after I returned home, so I had to watch over her and all three kids solo, but enough excuses. I have had some huge victories though that we're not set goals. I have had my eldest daughter(6yo) going on walks with me. She can handle about a mile before she starts complaining, but seems to enjoy going on the walks. And I am pretty sure she is gonna bug the wife to go on walks when I leave again. And my wife came to the realization this past week that when she eats crappy food, it makes her feel like crap. And when she eats the food I cook from scratch and real ingredients, she feels fuller longer and does not feel like crap. This is a little bittersweet for me, on one hand I am like "seriously, I've only been telling you this for over a year", but then I am like, "who cares how long it has taken! She has arrived!" So I count that a huge victory to winning back the health at home. As far as my set goals go, I have been doing good with cardio and reading, and maybe give myself a B- for diet. The diet though I can way tell the cause and effect. Almost everything I have eaten since I have been home, that I did not prepare myself, makes my stomach hurt. This didn't use to be the case. I am taking it as a good thing that my body is revolting against crap food. The strength training is where I have been missing out. I will try to get on here and update more often.
  2. 4/19 Strength - N/C Cardio - 5k on bike, basketball for about an hour and swimming. A Eating - A Reading - I lacked on this today, but that is ok. F 4/20 Strength - 90 min in gym A Cardio - 3k on bike and swimming A Eating - A Reading - A 4/21. Gonna do a little preemptive grading here since I will be flying tonight thru tomorrow. Strength - N/C Cardio - 20 min on the elliptical, 2k on bike and basketball. A Eating - I am going to eat whatever they are serving on the plane, so this will be like 24 h cheat day. Starting when I get to the airport. C
  3. Like eating a cactus, that was hilarious! Awesome job!
  4. So, my gym mission was put down a little bit. Their lighting issue has gotten worse. It seems that the normal generator went down and they have temporarily brought in a smaller one. They limited the access to the gym because the FMO was unsure as to if the lights inside the gym could be put on the generator or not. Apparently they are not. And to make sure they don't pull too much power, they just took the lighting circuits off the breakers. Which means instead of having lights 90% of the time, the gym never has lights or power. So no treadmill either. Luckily I am off of work the rest of my time here so I am able to go during the day. I will be slightly modifying my cardio until I get home. And to catch up on progress: 4/17 Strength - down day N/C Cardio - 5k on bike and basketball A- Eats - spot on A Reading - A 4/18 Strength - 75 min in gym A+ Cardio - 2k on bike and walked to town for dinner ~1.5 miles A Eats - spot on A Reading - A Not quite done with today, so I will post that later/tomorrow.
  5. Maybe there are blenders somewhere here. But I've been living in hotels since February 15th. Next trip though I'm going to mail myself protein powder and bring my blender ball. Won't be able to do ice with it, but better than nothing. I Nice work hitting your calorie targets!
  6. I miss smoothies. Can't wait to be back stateside.
  7. That is a pretty good guess. I am in the Congo at the moment. Before here I was in Nigeria. Next trip is Mali. After that one I hope to come back to where I am at now, given that I rectify this gym predicament. And thanks! Thanks!
  8. So, whenever I posted this, my weight was like 2 and a half weeks old. I got on the scale today and weighed in at 341 lbs. which totals to 55 lbs lost since February 15th! Feel unbelievably awesome right now! And this weigh in was after lunch even. Woot!
  9. So when I put on here that I was 363 lbs, that was a measurement from like 2 and a half weeks prior. I got on the scales in the marine post at work today just for giggles and grins, and I was 341! I went and got like three other people to weigh themselves to check scale for accuracy, and then weighed again, 341 lbs.! With the way my workday went today, this would have been a terrible day, nothing was going right, but I have been smiles all afternoon( it was after lunch that I weighed). Definitely on cloud nine this evening. This brings my total to 55 lbs since February 15th. Woot! Challenge wise things are going smooth. Went to the gym after work today, and the guard stops us and says the lights are out. Being the intuitive person that I am, I say to him that the lights in his guard shack are working just fine, as should be the gyms. Of course he doesn't speak English, nor my comrades and I French. So he hands us a letter, I assume from his boss or boss's boss, which says(in English) that the gym is restricting access from 24-7 to 0600-1800. The reason for this was that their generator has been acting up..... Yes, the power here in 3rd world countries does go out frequently, but I do not see the correlation to restricting access as the power goes in and out all day every day, not just from 1800-0600. However, I have been eating lunch almost every other day with the dude who is in charge of the facility so I expect to have this rectified tomorrow. I did do some BW strength training in my hotel room. But have not done my mile today, as no gym access and it is pouring down outside. Strength - A Cardio - F Eating- spot on A+ Reading- gonna tackle after dinner, should be an easy A
  10. I am with ya on greatly reducing grains. I am aiming for 1 meal a day having bread/grain. Good luck!
  11. I still have an issue every once I a while, 10 years after having my wisdom teeth removed. I have little pockets where they used to be, and food will try to get lodged in there, terrible pain for later. Keep on keepin on!
  12. I was actually banned by my boss from a series of meetings for explaining to the guy running the meeting what exactly it was he needed to do with his plan, using some choice expletives. I'm not normally one for language, but I still view that as one of the best decisions I ever made. Not that I am endorsing that you try it or anything. Woot! Good job H!
  13. I found out that I get to fly home 2 weeks early, which means I leave on Monday night! Woot! It will be nice to be home with the wife and kids a little bit longer than scheduled before my next big trip. I went kinda deep for my first book on the reading list: The Story of the Bible. Don't have anything lined up after that just yet, but I have several books at home that I got as Christmas presents a while back that deserve more than the dust they've been collecting. And I intend to work The Hobbit in there somewhere. Good luck to everyone!
  14. 4/14 Strength training- lame excuse, power was out at the gym. I know I should have done some BW stuff, but I didn't. F Cardio- I didn't get it in at the gym, but we did walk to the restaurant we were eating dinner at. Roughly 1.5 miles with a huge hill. A+ Eating- I slipped at lunch and didn't notice I was eating bread, but did catch it have way through and stopped. Planned bread at dinner C Reading- read a few articles on yahoo news. Unbelievable what some people feel is important enough to put in headlines. A+ 4/15 Strength training- off day. N/C (make up day from Monday will be Sunday) Cardio- 5k down! Drenched. A+ Eating- nothing exciting, but did have no bread at all today. Did have rice tho. A Reading- only thing left to do today, and 3 hours remain. Should be an easy A
  15. It is always good to surround yourself with similar goals. Thanks! Thanks! It is good to be back! I like your progress bar.
  16. One thing I did when cutting calories back home was never carry small bills. No vending machines at work! They cost too much anyways. I always made sure that during the day, the only snacks available were whole almonds or carrot sticks. Good luck!
  17. Double post, sorry. Not used to doing this on iPad yet
  18. Simple is good. I like your side quest, a lot. My wife and I went through a lot of financial difficulties last year, but through a lot of sacrifices that we have both made, this is the first time in almost eight years we have not been living paycheck to paycheck. And the feeling is so worth the sacrifice.
  19. It didn't take my text on the multiquote, lol. I am not going to count time spent on here, only because I want to go above and beyond my goal.
  20. So far this time around has not been as difficult, but I also have not been at home, around all my bad habits. Here in a couple weeks is when things will get tough. Luckily though, when I am at home I don't have to "go in to the office" so to speak so I can work out whenever I want.I went ahead and started getting into my cardio groove today, 5k in 56 min all walking. On a side note, I am having issues logging into the forums on tapatalk. Can't figure out if it has changed or if it is operator error.
  21. Challenge accomplished! It is good to be back!
  22. Subbing for the masters! I know how ya feel about once ya get home. Usually I will not sit down when I get home, unless it's after my workout. Sitting down = merging with the couch/recliner. Good luck!
  23. My main quest, as it shalt be for multiple challenges, is to lose 100lbs. I have already begun my trek into the once forgotten rebellion. I was once a regular here on the forums, and was successful in my quests while sticking with it. But alas, I fell off the wagon and gained back what I had victoriously lost, and then some. Weighing in at 396lbs, things had to change. I could not(and still can't) live my life the way I have been. On February 17th I decided enough was enough, the time was now(then and now and forever more rather). I have been actively exercising and attempting to eat right since then and so far I am down to 363lbs. I realize that losing 100lbs is a lot, and that after losing 100, I am still going to weigh 296lbs, but that is my current quest and it shalt be glorious! To help me progress my main quest I must: Strength train 3x a week end goal of 25 push ups in one set(4pts- 2str, 1sta, 1cha) Cardio 5 days a week alternating between 5k and 1mile(on strength days)(4pts- 2dex, 1sta, 1cha) No bread for at least two meals a day, 5 days a week(I will allow low carb tortillas)(4pts- 2con, 1wis, 1cha) Read for 1/2 hour a day. Anything with WORDS.(3pts- 3wis) I think a lot of my recent success is accredited to my being on travel. It has been easier to watch my intake when not picking out dinner as a family. And when I am on the road, what else am I going to do other than go to the gym and work out. I will be headed home soon, so things will be topsy turvey for a couple days. The 1/2 way around the world jet lag bites. I am glad to be back!
