  1. Hey all!

I am in the process of moving my greenhouse to another location. Long story short, went through a divorce at the end of last year and had to find a new home for it.

This year will be half veggies and half for an experiment for a farmer I know. It could turn into something better for the future. I'll post pics again once it is operational!

It looks like a sunflower or a sunchoke (the latter also being known as jerusalem artichoke).

A sunflower might appear if a bird was eating seeds from a bird feeder (in your yard or a neighbors) and then dropped some in your garden while flying around. A sunchoke is a tuber type of plant that is a perennial and will come back every year, that will only appear if it was once growing in your yard and went dormant and then came back this year.

You are indeed correct, it was a sunflower!

I guess I'll put more effort into the dirt garden next year or just build another greenhouse.....

Here is the first of many cucumbers to come out of the greenhouse!!

  3. Hey all!

    Challenge wrap up:

Overall, I feel I did good with the challenge. I hit about 75% of my goal, not bad considering some of the bad habits I've picked up over the last year. I'm planning on skipping the next challenge and getting my goals into the academy so I can track them better.

Thanks to all of you for all the support. I'd love to keep connected with you, and I'm still updating my battle log here:

Just as a bonus, here is a picture of the first cucumber to come out of the greenhouse. It's about 18" long!

  4. I agree with all the above comments. You are such a wonderful person and you are getting wins in! As it has already been said, celebrate your wins, forgive yourself when things don't go as planned. You are human, after all. Always remember to breathe.

You can do this. I believe in you.

  5. Hey all!

Been a busy week. As far as the challenge goes, I'd say this last week was simply ok.

My water intake started awesome. The last two days, not so much. Day before yesterday I simply did not drink enough and yesterday I forgot my water bottle at home. I'm still at least drinking more than I have been in the past, so mini win for me!

Water: 5 out of 7 days

Food was not quite as good. A couple 13 hour days really took its toll on me. I did manage to get just better than half of the days done, though.

    Food: 4 of 7 days

Definite room for improvement and I am proud of the progress I am making so far. I may have to revisit these goals in another challenge, however I like what I am seeing so far!

I hope you all have a fantastic day! I'll also post a greenhouse update if anyone is interested in both my daily battle log and the gardening thread. I'll link to both once they are up.

  6. That's awesome! I think my peppers would definitely prefer to be in a greenhouse. It has taken forever to get up to temperatures that they like. Next year I'm not even going to plant them until the beginning of June.

What's the plan for when the watermelon and cukes start to grow all over the place?

I hung a trellis in the back for the cukes to grow up, it goes to the top of the greenhouse. As for the watermelons, I was just going to let them grow over the edge. If they end up in the ground, it's all good. [emoji6]

  7. Hi all!

It's been a while since I jumped into a challenge. I was asked if I'd like to join this one a little late, so I figured now is the time to get back to it!!

Just to get back into it, I just have 2 goals for the remainder of this challenge.

    1. More water

I've fallen back into drinking energy drinks and it is starting to get to me. My goal for this is to drink 2 liters of water per day. It is almost twice what I drink now, so I figure I will have to cut down on the energy drinks to make this goal.

    2. Make all meals from home 5 of 7 days a week.

I work 12 hours overnight and haven't been planning or preping meals for a long while now. This goal is to help me get back into the habit.

On a side note, I also am starting a greenhouse this year and have been updating here if you'd like to see.

  8. Hey all!

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I just did a big update on the greenhouse here:

    https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/79393-Garden-Planning---What-Do-You-Want-To-Grow%3F/page__view__findpost__p__1942711&share_tid=79393&share_fid=26425&share_type=t&share_pid=1942711

That's pretty much what I've been working on lately. I will be starting the new challenge in a few days, still working on goals.

I took out the towers because of water flow issues and replaced it with this, it has some strawberries, basil, lemon balm, and I'm experimenting with regrowing lettuce after I have harvested it:

  10. So... you grow the carrots in the tower?Like just in the middle? How do you harvest them? What is the white handle thing for? How does  this compost work in the middle? See, now you started it, I have all the questions>[emoji4]

The carrots go in the cut sides, they essentially act like net pots. You just harvest them like normal out of the side holes. The top ring of dirt I put radishes in.

The middle white bucket is where I put any scraps. It has holes in it so the worms can go in and out. I'll do my best to get better pictures.

The white tube on the side is for water. The barrel is a wicking system to keep it all moist.

This is a video of how to build it and a decent explanation of how it works. The guy is dry, however has great ideas.
