  1. You're too late to win anything (exept a fitter body) in the current challenge, but join anyway. Essentially, you just begin a new thread in the proper class, more details here. I stumbled in too, and am having fun and feeling better than I have in years. So welcome, and we'll be looking forward to your posts.
  2. These are great goals; especially #1. I try to get up and do some armswings and stuff during the workday, but stretches sounds like a much better idea. What software are you using? I've been doing the Beginners body weight training and it really makes me feel like I've gotten a workout. I like your parking at the back of the lot; it's one of my favorite tricks to sneak in steps.
  3. No entry yesterday because I was pouting. Bad weigh-in at WW; up 1/2 lb. Yes, I know, I know...the scale is a lying witch (Shep, you just never learned to spell). Enought pouting. It's Monday and yesterday's gone. Got up, laced up my shoes, and drug myself into my gym for my Monday Circuits; and set 2 PB. I did 6 lunges (goal #2). I did 7 modified pushups. Still chipping away at the weight machine.
  4. Intervals today...and I kicked @$$ and took names!
  5. If you read Steve's blog about warming up, you'll find the info there. Is there anything that doesn't hurt your leg? Like maybe swimming? Just do what you can do. Sit in a chair and wave your arms around. You can eat a good diet, which is always a good way to start. Good luck, and stay tough.
  6. Write it down, and keep posting. Welcome aboard.
  7. Hi Tyler, I'm an old geek, getting ready to retire from IT. My husband is a retired Marine, so I spent a number of years working for the USMC (as a civil servent). There is a 6-week challange in progress, you can read up on it. You can join the challenge late & get the feel, or just post in battle logs till the next one rolls around. I'd join the challange anyway, but I'm an INTJ and we don't need no stinkin' rules. I stumbled onto the site too, about 14 weeks ago. It felt like I'd been in a foreign country and was finally somewhere where they were speaking my native tongue. I'm having fun, and getting fit. So welcome & have fun.
  8. First - congrats on your success & sticking it out for the whole route. I'm a WW too, and started eating (mostly) paleo within my WW PPV in late June. Hope you have fun with us & lose your last 10 lbs.
  9. Fruits and veggies have a lot of nutrients and antioxidants that you won't get from protein alone. If you stick to fruit and non-startchy vegetables, I don't think you need to worry about derailing your weight loss. Fruits and vegetables also are high in fiber, which your body needs. And if you start looking at a list of "cancer fighting foods", you're going to find a long list of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. I can't help with the how much, since I have to work hard on the proteins, not the carbs. Maybe a zone approach?
  10. This forum is definately about doing it. The current 6-week challange already started, but heck, join anyway. I'm not a joiner myself, but I've joined here, and did everything (challange, signature, avatar...) to make the commitment. Good luck, and we'll be looking for more posts.
  11. Thursday was my rookie B; I've moved from split squats to back lunges and managed 6. So the progress continues. My 10-minute cardio was intervals, so I've joined the battle.
  12. You have really dug in and started to work. Hope you don't lose any ground on the new meds. I have a bad knee, and I just spent 6 months rehabbing a rotator cuff injury. My shoulder and knee were still twinging pretty badly when I started here at NF. I found extra arm-swings helped my shoulder and a longer slower warmup helped my knee. If I'm having a bad day I try to do what I can...maybe just a long slow walk on the treadmill; or 2 or 3 shorter walks. Something is always better than nothing. I make a point of varying my workouts (not doing the same workout two days running). Maybe you want to put in a cardio day between your kettleball workouts? Also, that doesn't seem like much food. Remember, you can't build muscle without food. I like to have a couple of small fruit+nuts snacks in between my meals. You're on a long road, so settle in for a sustainable pace.
  13. I'm 55, and don't care who knows. Glad you found my thread. The first few days meandering around the forum, I felt soooooooooo lonely...
  14. I really can't narrow this down to 1 author, but my favorites are Terry Pratchett Laurie R. King Guy Gavriel Kay Thomas B. Costain Patricia McKillip Reginald Hill Eleanor Lipman Bernard Cornwell For pure SciFi - I think Asimov is head & shoulders above Heinlein...but I don't read that much hard SciFi. (Yeah, long list, I know...but I've had a lot more time to read than most of you).
  15. Mine are Tigana and the Sarantine Mosaic.
  16. Lovecraft and Dick? I'm officially impressed, or else really, really scared. I'll have to find something by William Gibson.
  17. It's cropped out of the Lorelei from the now-defunct Kessler Brewing Co's Lorelei Beer ads and labels.
  18. It's not the eye-rolling that gets me, it's the blank stares. Glad you could join in. I'm fairly new too, and like you, I feel so much better since I've been "here".
  19. Join the challange. You're here to be in the game, right? So join on in. That way, you'll know you're way around the next 6 week challange.
  20. You are not the only one. Even if there's no one at your physical location, we're all here. Glad you could come.
  21. Good points German and Michaelramm. I love the beginners body weight training! Knowing how to cook is always useful.
  22. Any suggestions for an at-home or at a small gym (and when I say small, I mean really small)? Right now I am focusing on bodyweight and some pulling and pushing excercises with free weights. I have a small home-gym and am getting rid of it because 1) my shoulders hurt on several of the moves; 2) I never really felt like I'd worked out. In fact, it wasn't helping me lose any weight at all. I'd really stick with the body weight and free weights. My strength has really improved since I started doing the beginner's circuit and the rookie workouts.
  23. Well, provided I didn't mess up my link, you should be able to follow it to Amazon. I also bought a tether with a metal-clip. The plastic-clip one that comes with isn't that sturdy.
