  1. Off to a good week 2 start here. Work was too much sitting, but a trip to the store after fixed things up. Still with the appetite problem, so only a bowl of soup for dinner and needed a couple of chunks of dark chocolate to make it above 1200 calories (my minimum). No idea what that's about. But everything I did eat was good, so I'm okay. Baked some chicken and pork chops. Fixed the messed up bracelet and finished it's mate. Still no pictures, I know, but I'll get them done. Steps: 11k Meds/supplements: done on time Crafting: done tracking/calorie limit A-OK. Even managed to check out a couple of threads out there.
  2. Glad you made it back for another challenge. I had a rotten time making good food choices there for a while, so I've sure been there. Looks like you're getting back in the groove, though.
  3. Always feels weird when someone says something like this, because I actually always feel like a wimp. However, I think this time I'll trust Fonzico's take on reality rather than my own. Woke up with a sore throat, so I toned down today's plans. I did go to a mall and do a little mall walking, but only made 8k steps for the day. I had an appetite problem, but I did eat enough. I got lunches and stuff put together for the next couple of days, got a couple loads of wash done, but didn't work too hard. Since my vintage jewelry hooks (from eBay) just arrived, I was finally able to finish restringing my crystal necklace. I made up a couple of pair of earrings which turned out well, but the 1st of my bracelets didn't quite turn out. I'm using a new type of finding (for me), and it ended up strung too tight. Pictures tomorrow. I really feel like I had a good week one. I really ate well, and kept on target. A little roughness with my asthma, but I didn't let it turn me into a couch potato. Got out and about, and had some fun with my jewelry.
  4. Friday Friday was my day off. I had a fun little jaunt (I'm easily amused). I started out at a Sherwin-Williams store & picked up a bundle of their historic paint colors. Then I did a little drifting and wandering, went out to lunch, hit TJ's and then back home. A box intended for Pasadena inadvertently got shipped here. I checked the contents (some neat 100 yr old light fixtures), did a little repack, and added a couple of other house design items. I got in all my meds/supplements on time, got in my steps, and hit my calorie target for a pretty good day. Saturday Today, not as good. Last night I dreamed that my husband and I were touring DC together; it feels so real when you're dreaming, and it feels so rotten when you realize it was a dream. Kinda left me down in the dumps, but I guess I did okay anyway. I hit the museum of art, and went thru the furniture display again. I had coffee out, and my little snack put me a tad over my calories; but I was still under 1500 for the day, so not too bad. Got in all my steps and took my meds/supplements on time. Vacuumed the house too. Planning on an early night & hope I feel perkier tomorrow.
  5. Thursday turned out to be one of those work days that afford us so little fun. I was slated to teach all of the big-wigs on the use of the Samsung Galaxy S5. So I've been making handouts etc. and today printed them all and set up my equipment and practiced using Sidesync. And no one showed up. Why is it that everyone has time to do things the wrong/hard way, but no time for training? However, I didn't let it get me down tooooo much. I managed to get everything in except some crafting. I'm really on a roll with my eating and tracking; the best part is that I'm eating good food, not low calorie junk. Tomorrow's my Friday off, but I'm not sure yet what I'll do. The weather looks a bit iffy, so I'll make a list tomorrow AM of everything I want for the weekend and sort it out depending on the weather situation then.
  6. Tuesday Hit all the high spots. I got in my steps, took all my meds/supplements on time, spent an hour working on jewelry, tracked and nailed the calorie target again. I made lunches and breakfasts for the week, and that was pretty much all I had time for. Wednesday Had a super day, even if I was a little short on steps. Crazy busy with meetings, so not much time to wander around. There was a brunch event at work, and someone brought egg muffins so I was able to join in and eat well. I was careful the rest of the day because I was going out with friends to dinner and wasn't sure where we were headed. I ended up being able to get grilled salmon and veggies so I had to have some milk to get about my lower calorie threshold. Took all my meds, but got home too late for any crafting. My asthma is nearly 100% back under control, so I've got gym plans for next week.
  7. Despite my lungs still being a bit rough from Friday's asthma episode, I got myself off to a good start. I skipped the gym this morning, but took a couple of walks around the building during the day, so I still got my steps in. I nailed my calorie tracking and felt good. Didn't do anything creative, but I got my pills all set up for the week and got them taken at the correct time. Stupid asthma leaves me pretty tired, so I'm off to bed early.
  8. I've sort of played along the last two challenges, so the plan is to work a little harder this time around and change things up. 1. Keep on tracking what I eat everyday AND keep to 1400 calories 5 days/week. 2. Continue to take my meds on time AND add back in the supplements I haven't been taking all year. 3. 10k steps/day OR a gym session 6 days/week. 4. Keep on exploring DC and environs OR work on something crafty 5 days/week. (Brownie points for posting on time).
  9. For some reason, my asthma kicked up pretty hard yesterday. So I pretty much came home and crashed. Didn't finish tracking, didn't get my steps in. Stayed home from work today, I got in some steps in short bursts, but nothing too tough. I did my tracking & took my meds. I got in some creative time; I set up the bead pattern for 3 bracelets, although I didn't put the hardware on them yet. Today: Tracking: * Steps: Meds: * Creativity: *
  10. Yup - working hard on keeping it going. Today I made it to the gym again, and did my interval routine. I tracked all of my food and ignored the donuts that were in the kitchen all day. I'm really starting to feel good again. I've taken my meds, and of course gotten my steps in since I hit the treadmill 1st thing. I'm working on the theory that HR isn't done with their insanity yet, and my detail may be cut short. Since I have to give 60 days notice, it can't happen overnight. I am planning some renovations to my little bungalow, so my creative energy went there today. I got the 1st draft of the construction worksheet for the bath & laundry rooms to my contractor. Fortunately, the bones of my 1912 bungalow are in place, but some small renovations were done mid-30's and mid-60's. I'm basically taking those out (since they were minor and cheaply done), and working on restoring to period as much as possible. The bath plan is white/black hex tile on the floor, and white subway in the shower. I found a 1914 (close enough!) plumbing catalog that I'm using as a basis. My niece called and we chatted quite a while. She says she's been doing the BBWW 3 times a week since I left & really enjoys the feeling of a good workout in such a short amount of time. Always nice to feel like you're making impact Today: Tracking: * Steps:* Meds: * Creativity: *
  11. Today I gave a demo on a database app I wrote. I was uncharacteristically nervous about this one, knowing they'd want to see behind the scenes when I was done with the walk through. I guess I was worried they'd all think it was a kludge but in reality they were impressed. I deployed a few monitors and laptops, which helped me get my step total up. Tracked all of my food and did a good job of picking good food. I worked on a bracelet, but it just didn't turn out the way I wanted, and I tore it back down. Today: Tracking: * Steps:* Meds: * Creativity: *
  12. Reasonably good start to the week. I hit the gym again this morning for 5 intervals. I got the last "sprint" up to 5.8 mph, so I getting things back. I ran into someone on her way out to the real world for a run, and I was so tempted to do that instead of the gym. But I know I need to make sure my lungs are in good shape before I try that. I tracked and am starting to feel pretty good about the improvements in my eating habits too. So mostly good - 12k steps in, meds done, MFP all taken care of. On the work front, still weird. The big cheese called me in to his office & apologized profusely for the mess that HR made of everything. It turns out that I can stay and finish out my detail...as long as I decline the temporary promotion. The boss says he'll make it up somehow. The money is nice, but I really did the detail for the experience, so I said that I would. But then the kicker; they might need to move me to a less expensive (and presumably less convenient) apartment. I told them if it came to that, I'd end the detail. Because this may end, I need to get the renovation of my Pasadena house started, so I spent my creative time documenting all of my plans and gathering sources. 13. Mostly lazy today. I did bake chicken and 2 kinds of squash, so I should be pretty much fixed for lunches and dinners for next week. I ran a couple of errands, but spent most of the day just hanging around. My step count is down at about 7k, but sometimes I think it's good just to decompress. I tried an (almost) new food today - oatmeal. I detested oatmeal growing up, so I haven't had it in something like 1/2 a century. I decided to try some steel-cut oats and add some nuts and berries. Verdict - I liked it. I'm trying to improve what I'm eating, and I thought that if I liked oatmeal it would give me some variety. So maybe I'll work it in some more. 14. Such a nice day today, we walked to the Air & Space. Going with my friend worked out great; I was a little worried he'd want to spend more time in the exhibits, but he gets a headache from the lighting too. There are lots of out in the open things to do at that museum, so we had a good time & and planning a trip back to finish up. I was excited to see an X-15 at the museum; when I was in Kindergarten we lived at Edwards AFB, and I got to meet one of the pilots (Robert White) and get a look up close at his plane. Cool to see one again. Drifted over to the American Indian museum for lunch at their very interesting cafe. I tracked the best I could and ate pretty healthy. Then walked back to the apartment building. Got in about 12k steps, so it was a good step day. Did some paperwork and organizing when I got back, but no creative anything. Got to get myself in gear with that. Today: Tracking: * Steps: * Meds: * Creativity
  15. Today was my (every other) Friday off. I spent most of the day around the U street metro. Hit some boutiques, antique stores and consignment places. Had lunch at Ted's Bulletin. Last, I hit Trader Joe's for a couple of things and headed home. I did a little sorting so I can start packing things up. My meanderings net me about 13k steps. I had a burger for lunch, but opted out of the fries and desserts that were being offered. I kept track as I ate and made pretty good choices. Then I started a list of change of address to do. No creativity AGAIN though. I've arranged to meet a friend and we'll hit a museum. Not sure yet where we're going, but I'm thinking maybe the Air and Space. 16. Apparently they can detail me here OR promote me temporarily, but not both (who knows why). So they have to end one or the other, and they can't renege on the promotion. Sent from my SM-T217S using Tapatalk
  17. Here I am, chugging along feeling like I'm finally moving forward, and BAM. Started out getting things done left & right at work. Then the head of HR and my boss came to visit. It seems an HR audit turned up an irregularity with my detail to DC and HR has to pull the plug on it. They wanted me to go back home in about a week, but I pointed out that they had a LEASE on my apartment and I have to give 60 days notice. So it looks like I'll be here about another 2 months - for a total of 6 instead of 12 months. I am determined to not let this put me into a tailspin, and I hit all of the high points for the day (except for the creativity thing). I tracked and made pretty good food choices, got in my meds and my steps. I'm going to let this sink in for a day or so and start planning my return to LA. I won't get to do everything, but I'll have enjoyed the experience and if they let me go 60 days I'll have gotten to see the Cherry Blossom festival. Today: Tracking: * Steps: * Meds: * Creativity:
  18. Wednesday & a busy day after I was out part of yesterday. I started out the morning with a trip to the gym & 30 minutes of interval training on the treadmill. I tracked everything, and made great choices. I got my meds in on time. I got home pretty late because I was showing the director his new laptop. He is really a smart guy, and is so put off by technology. When he realized that he would need a different power cord than his antique, he nearly gave it back. But he finally went into the brave new world. Got home and miss kitty had hair-balled all over. Her fur is absolutely crazy with the cooler weather and it's tough to keep it all brushed up to prevent the hair balls. Between that and getting home late, I didn't end up with any creative time. I did end up with over 12k steps though. I stretched at the gym, but was a little stiff for the 1st hour or so, but then was fine. Today: Tracking: * Steps: * Meds: * Creativity: (Final step count was over 13k - yay)
  19. So when the dust settled yesterday, I actually ended up with 9,800 steps. Pretty good! Today went so/so. I had a headache that was slowly building, so I bailed at work about noon. I came home and took a nap. By then the slushy rain had cleared and the sun was out. I took a nice long walk and felt a lot better. I tracked, and took my meds on time. thanks to the long walk, I got in my steps. I didn't feel focused enough for anything creative though. Yesterday & today: Tracking: ** Steps: ** Meds: ** Creativity: *
  20. Pretty good if not perfect day. It was snowing when I got up, so I knew there would be no chance of getting enough steps in. I headed to the gym and got in 2 miles in 5 walk/run intervals. I'll still be short but I'm giving myself brownie pointts for the gym. Got some laundry done, and got lunches for the 1st part of the week. I got some jewelry time in; re-stringing a vintage necklace that broke when i was moving in. Got the string done, but OH NO, where is the hook?? I'll search the bedroom again, but I don't have high hopes.
  21. Yes - it drives me crazy. The company that supplies my apartment pays the electricity, so they put it the lowest light bulbs they could find. Stupid, because then I just turn on more lights.
  22. Food tracking on MyFitnessPal. Right now, I'm not really working the target calories hard; just tracking the calories. Today was another good day I finished up all of what I was working on yesterday. I rearranged all of my electronics and chargers and the desk lamp. Then a trip to the hardware store for a better light bulb in my (single) living room lamp, and I can finally see enough to do my creative stuff. Then off with my little cart, to get some cat food. The only size it comes in is 16lb, so I had to get it in a separate trip. Still cold, but all those trips got my steps in. Between the loads of laundry, I fixed a bracelet with a wonky clasp, and an earring that had come apart. Much better now that I can see what I'm doing. So todays stars: Tracking: * Steps: Meds: * Creativity: *
  23. Yes, I was late to the party all right, but I've been been working hard since I got here. Today had everything. Action, adventure, adulthood, and creativity. I braved the 0 wind-chill and went walking in the snow. Boy it was cold, but it was great. I came home and vacuumed the entire house, mopped the front area, and gave the kitchen a good cleaning. Then I did a some furniture rearraging, hung up some calendars and things and made it look good. Finally I dug into my beading stuff to make sure I had everything for the first two items I want to work on. First up is a vintage crystal necklace that broke during my move. 2nd up will be a bracelet to go with my favorite new boutique find. Meantime I tracked and took all my meds. I was a little low on steps, but all in all a good day. Tracking: * Steps: Meds: ** Creativity: *
