  1. Hey, I just read your entire thread and I am really happy for you and inspired, thank you for sharing.
  2. Welcome to the forums, I share your feelings, most people around not only do not want a lifestyle change, they actually laugh at any attempt and sometimes even discourage it, (not always consciously), I have heard a lot of "you are not made for this" whether it's running, swimming or rid¡ng a bike, and when I speak of triathlons almost everybody gives me a patronizing look, but I know in my heart I can do it, and I will, I know I have a lot of weight to loose, and a lot of fitness to achieve, but I just finished my first 5k, and as small as it sounds, it was a HUGE accomplishment for me, and the first of many. So if you are looking for a life change, you have come to the right place. Hope to see you again soon.
  3. Hello and welcome Razar, I see your predicament with food, a possible solution would be to volunteer to cook (I love cooking, so easy to say), find some easy recipes and start from there, you have the time, maybe you have the skills and have not found about it yet, just my $.02.
  4. Thanks BGV! Today I took the day off as said before, I am still sore (better word than hurt, as I have learned), but much better, still no smoking and it's actually getting easier each day, I hope I never go back to it. The junk food has been completely out of my menu, not just between meals, I have begun reading about Paleo, not sure if that is for me, and I don't want to commit to any food plan of philosophy now, I firmly believe in small steps and currently the smoke, and exercise is enough of a challenge for me, I'll just eat more good stuff and less junk, and that 'll do for now. Tomorrow morning I will go back to the pool, and see how that goes, Friday is also pool day, and for the weekend I'll try to track some bike Kms, or at least a couple of tennis sets. Mileage track Swim: 1000m Running: - Bike: -
  5. Ahrg, this week is mostly swimming, so I will have to wait for the next mini challenge, but Go Scouts!
  6. Sounds like you have a plan here, wish you the best of luck. About the c25k program, I think you could start by walking, then some brisk walks and a couple of weeks later, start with the c25k, it will still be a little hard, but you'll have some "air" to go trough, and remember, if it gets tough, you can always repeat last week's routine until you master it.
  7. That's great, habits is all what this is about after all.
  8. Hey, there are many hotels with "no barefoot in the gym", but I've been seen on some of those wearing shorts and office shoes (you are far from home anyway...)
  9. You are doing great, moving is kinda workout anyway!
  10. You are doing great!, keep on going.
  11. Great, finding alternatives is the best way to both avoid injury and keep on working out, so good for you and keep on going.
  12. That's great, I just finished my first 5K on Sunday, and the feeling is awesome, I honestly never thought running would feel that good. Kudos on a goal successfully completed.
  13. Progress: So far no smoking, and between meals junk food has been kept back, although yesterday at my wife's birthday I had more chips, soda and cake than I should have, technically it was not between meals (that was dinner!), but still felt wrong, will be more careful (although I was proud I did not smoke). Today I started swimming, and it went better than expected, I was up for a few laps to get my muscles back on track, but then the coach was there, I had to share the lane with an intermediate class and ended up following their drills to complete 1000m, my legs hurt a little, and I feel a lot more tired than I remember, but I felt really good to know that even after six months away from the pool, I can still swim, and the smell of chlorine is soooo goood! hehe. Running was not scheduled until tomorrow, although I think it may be better to take a day off, so I can go back to the pool on Thursday with a little more stamina and muscles better rested, I do not want to over do it the first week. I think I might review the 1000m a day goal for swimming, as I was able to do it the very first day, but my experience says the worst workout is not the first day but the second, I'll finish the week and see how I feel about raising that bar. Mileage track (in metric system... sorry, will convert at the end if necessary) Swim: 1000m Running: - Bike: -
  14. Great numbers, keep up with the good work and get on with your eingeneering goal!
  15. Keep up with the good and SMART work! I think you are listening to your body the right way, keep on going.
  16. Hey, I am pretty much on the same spot, or was a month and a half ago, I started walking, then some jogging-walking (c25k program) and feel a lot better now, keep on going, it DOES get easier, a little at a time goes a long way.
  17. Good for you. Have you seen some running programs? I really like the walk-run system pd C25K, follow it through and you will be running before you know it. Good idea about the routes, it really helps if you know where to go and where to turn back beforehand, I personally use a 5km route, do the C25K routine and walk the rest of the way. Good luck!
  18. I just found out this site, and I'm loving it already, I realize I am a few days late into this challenge, but I'll give it a go anyway, since I already have a lot starting the next few days. About me: I'm 1.69m tall and about 107k (will update with precise weight), (that's 5'4 and 236lb), 38yrs old married with kids. I was never a sporty guy, some soccer on high-school, some mountain bike a few years back, some swimming last year (up to 6000m a week, on 5 sessions), never serious or competitive. From some time back (a couple of years), i have been lurking into fitness and triathlon sites, so a month ago I decided to start running, which is the most scary part of the race for me. Yesterday, after a month of C25K-based training, cut short almost in half, I finished my first 5K in 45min, and even when I was beaten even by Mr.70-something-powerwalker-I-Passed-before-KM1, whom I was sure to beat, I felt incredibly good afterwards, so I am already looking for another 5K soon enough, hoping with enough training will be able to complete in less than 40 min. I know I'm still a little far from triathlon, but then the first nearby sprint tri is on february, so enough time to dream about, and in that spirit, this is my goal for this six week challenge: Health: Quit smoking, already started a week ago, and going good so far (+2 STA) No junk food between meals, at all. Fitness: Two days a week running training, to achieve 5KM under 40min (+3 STA +2 STR) Three days a week swimming, to achieve 1000m each session (+2 STA +3 STR) Now 5000m per week At least 1 day bike every other week, no distance in particular, just to remember the feeling. Life Read at least two books, I really like to read, I just don't seem to find the time (pretexts....) (+3 WIS). Edit: Only four goals with points.
