  1. Alright, so I didn't post anything yesterday cause my recruiter texted me at like, 4 pm saying that I had a PAST today. Awesome. I had to break out the oatmeal, since I couldn't eat pasta the night before. I just got back from taking it and figured I'd post the results while they're still fresh in my head: 2x 25m underwaters = Pass 500m Swim = 9:26 minutes ( which BY THE WAY is the fastest I've ever done it, BOOYA!) 1.5 Mile run= 10:09 minutes (passed by one second, which is atrocious) Pull Ups = 10 reps (my calisthenics kinda suffered, I forgot when I did my original PT test to factor in the 500m swim, which in fact makes a big difference in results) Sit Ups (to muscle failure) = 150 (I could have done more I think, but when I hit the 150 mark my body thought it'd be fun to shoot vomit inside of my cheeks. Tasty.) Push Ups (also to failure) = 50 (I stopped at 50 cause the sit ups took their toll on my core, and after my 50th rep, you couldn't really call them push ups anymore.)I'm very much not pleased with my run time, so I'll be working more on that in the future. EASY DAY! Haha, I had a lot of fun, pretty much everyone I meet at these tests are really cool. Welp, that's all for today, have fun with your work outs and never quit. Thank You
  2. Thank you, and yeah, it took a good 10 minutes of me pacing around arguing with myself haha. Anyways, my sense of time is a little skewed as I've been up for about 20 hours now, but today was a rest day for me. The day before yesterday I said I was mostly going to concentrate on cardio and abdominal exercises, but instead I convinced myself to wait another day and just do everything on the same day. So, yesterday I went to the gym (YMCA) at around 10 AM and worked out for four hours. Here's what I did: 2x 25m Underwater swims 50m Sprint (all the cardio I did that day was sprinting) rested 1 minute 1x 25m Underwater 50m Sprint (I've forgotten how many I did, so i'll just stop at this one and only put in the ones I do remember) 2 minutes of rest 500m surface swim (non-stop, also I forgot my goggles that day so I had to do these while keeping my eyes open underwater, which sucked tremendously. That'll teach me to forget my stuff) 5 minute rest 25m Underwater 2 minute rest 50m Sprint And that's all I remember right now that I did in the pool. Next I happened to run into one of my buddies there by chance and we went to work out in the weight room. I'll just summarize this as I'm exceedingly tired. Things I did in the weigh room were: 3 sets of 12 reps squatting 60 pounds+bar (I got twig legs) 150 Push Ups (not all at once of course) 32 mix of pull ups, chin ups, and wide pull ups 1:30 minutes of these leg lift things my buddy introduced to me, you do them where you would normally do dips, but instead you just hold yourself up and while keeping your legs straight, you bring your feet to about face level. I dunno if that made sense or not, sorry, but I don't know if they have an official name or not.I'm pretty sure I did more than this, but I don't remember what they were so I'm not going to actually say I did them. But yeah, I procrastinated posting this yesterday after I got back, and now look at me. It's a bad habit that I'm trying to break, making slight progress. This whole workout session took me around 4 hours to do, and my lower back is hating me for it. I'm going to try to work in more lower back and shoulder specific work outs, since those are my two weakest links. Good night/morning
  3. I haven't posted in the past couple days, but basically, I applied for a job, got interviewed for said job, and didn't get said job. :c That's about it for what happened over the past couple days, nothing else really worth mentioning. Tomorrow/today is DEP Call, so I'll find out if I'll be quitting or staying in the Air Force today. Can only hope for the best, but I'll post how it goes tomorrow. I'm tired so I'm gonna go to bed, good night!
  4. Alright, sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been a lazy bum and skipped a workout day. I don't have an excuse as for why I did it, it was just a moment of mental weakness. Anyways, today I wasn't quite feeling up to the task either. I have been playing Rome Total War 2 pretty much all day today, so I incorporated both exercise AND video games without even using a Wii! Crazy right? When I first started up Rome TW2, I started a new campaign (as Rome of course) and told myself that: For every enemy Army defeated = 20 push upsFor every enemy Fleet destroyed = 30 sit upsFor every enemy city conquered = 5 pull upsFor every civilization...um...Romanized = 1 30s/30s (30 second sprint, followed by 30 second jog)For every battle lost = a 2 mile run outside (it snowed 4 inches here and was dangerously close to the single digits) with no walkingAll was going well, over the course of the day I had defeated 5 Armies (100 push ups basically spread throughout the day), destroyed 3 fleets (I actually beat the last two at the same time and ended up having to do 60 sit ups at once, which sucked so good), and conquered 3 cities. Unfortunately I never lost a battle or managed to wipe out *Ahem* Romanize another civilization. Everything was going well both in game and out, I had managed to exercise on a day when I really didn't want to, and had fun doing it! That was until my last battle before I was getting off happened. I had been at war with the Carthaginians (North Africa-Sicily area abouts) since the flipping start of the game, but the barbarian tribes to the north had been a more immediate threat, so I had the majority of my legions up north dealing with them, only having to repel a few scattered and weak raiding parties from my cranky haters from the south throughout my game. After I had finally dealt with the last of the hostile barbarian scum and struck non-aggression pacts with the rest, I turned my attention south just in time to fight off 3 fleets and around semi strong invasion forces. After these pathetic and annoying mockeries of invasions were destroyed by glorious Roman steel, there was a lull in the stream of pests just long enough to launch an invasion force of my own. The force comprised of my most experienced and decorated legion, Legio I Italica. These men were almost solely responsible for putting down the barbarian rabble in the north and I now charged them to do the same with the only slightly more civilized Carthaginians. Their target was port city of Karalis in the province of Corsica et Sardinia, which was their largest port city in the Mare Tyrrhenum sea region. Roman intelligence operatives reported only a meager defense mostly comprised of peasant militias garrisoned inside the city. As such the legions' senior commanders ordered their units to only take the provisions that they'd need for the 3 day voyage and 1 day march to reach the city. On the trip to the island fleet scouts reported sights of large Carthaginian fleets, which forced the legions to land almost 10 miles away from the intended invasion point. That's when things went horribly wrong. The military Tribune in charge of the invasion force, Servius Caedicus Nepos, a young upstart from the esteemed House of Julia, was suddenly thrust in the position of General of this esteemed legion at the tender age of 20. Now at the age of 31 he was a seasoned veteran in his own right, having been the victor of 5 previous battles in the north, and commanded the respect of the ~2000 men that served under him. Landing off target was but a minor set back, the men would just have to eat less for the provisions to last, which every man accepted without complaint. They were no strangers to the hardship of campaign. The hardened legion marched off the boats, their armor and weapons shimmering as they stepped onto the sunny islands' sands. As soon as they had formed up on the beach, Nepos ordered the march, all of them happy to finally be back on solid ground, and finally able to keep the food they ate where it belonged. Half a day into the march, the legions' scouts came back with the worst possible news. The Empire's intelligence had been wrong. There were 6 separate Carthaginian armies on the island and they would all converge on the legion's location in under two hours. A grim silence fell over the men as the news spread. Retreating back to the boats wasn't an option, as they had received word only minutes before that they'd had to fall back lest they be caught and destroyed by Carthage's vast fleets. Nepos looked at his assembled army as they stared back with steel in their eyes. They were all veterans and proven fighters to a man and they knew that the only way to have any hope of surviving was to kill every enemy that appeared before them. They did not fear defeat, as they had no experience with the notion, and they had no plans to change that. Nepos felt his eyes tear up and his pride soar as he realized he commanded such men. This was no longer just a fight for survival, this was a fight for his men. His brothers. He'd be damned to the underworld if he failed them here. Sorry for the extremely long post, but I felt I had to make up for my previous missed posts, and kinda got into it. I don't think I'm a very good writer/story teller but if you wanna torture yourself some more I can finish the story in a later point if you want, also I'm open to suggestions for improving my writing as it's kind of a hobby for me . Anyways, long story short I ended up taking the port city and defeating 6 armies at once. I was ecstatic until I remembered my rule. 20 push ups per army. 120 PUSH UPS, SAY WHAAAAAAAT I was gonna call it quits, as there's no way I could do that many, especially after already doing 100 throughout the day! Then I looked at what remained of my legion. I steeled my resolve, put on my headphones, selected Jason Derulo's Talk Dirty - feat. 2 Chainz (haters gonna hate), and screamed "FOR THE GLORY OF ROOOOOME!!!!". Here's how I did it. 40 reps 5 minute rest 20 reps 3 minute rest 30 reps 3 minutes rest 30 repsIt was a doosey and my arms feel like jello, but I got it done. Tomorrow's going to be a core+cardio day, since I didn't get too much of them in today. Good Night!
  5. January 17, 2014 AD (even though it's 12:42 AM) Did a pretty fulfilling work out today: For Pull Ups - 7 Pull Ups after warm up 90 second rest 8 Chin ups 90 second rest 7 Wide Pull ups 90 second rest 5 Chin ups 90 second restFor Sit Ups - After about a 3-5 minute break, I did 24 sit ups 20 Leg lifts 20 Hip Raises 22 Supermans Rested for 30 seconds 1 minute 15 second plank 16 Bird Dogs (weird name right?) 22 Reverse Crunches 20 Mountain Climbers 30 seconds of rest 18 Sit ups 40 second side plank 26 Marching Twists 24 CrunchesFor Push Ups - After around a 10 minute break I started of with 14 push ups (nothing fancy about these, just regular push ups) 60 second rest 18 Push ups 60 second rest 14 Push ups 60 second rest 14 Push ups 60 second rest and then 25 push ups to finish it all off.I told my recruiter that I'd wait until this coming Wednesday before I quit the Air Force DEP, but I'm getting really agitated, and impatient just waiting this long. I've already waited pretty much a whole year, but this past week has just been grinding to a near stand still for me. I'm ready to just go. My parents keep trying to convince me to just stay home and go to college after I quit the DEP, it's kinda annoying but the jobs I want to do are dangerous, and they're my parents so I understand. Although whenever they bring these things up I always start to wonder if I'll be able to pass the training, or if I do even pass the training, will I be happy with my job. Pretty much the biggest doubts that always haunts me though, is, what makes me think that I'll be able to pass the training that some people spend their whole lives preparing for, only to wash out? What makes me want to do such a dangerous and demanding job, when I've only been playing video games for most of my life? To be honest, I don't have an answer for either of those questions. I literally just woke up one day with the extreme desire to do it. A little voice in my head is always saying, "Try it, see how far you can go! Don't worry about what happens after, just take everything one step at a time, it'll all work out". I've become almost obsessed with it, I used to be so scared of heights that I would never ride on roller coasters at theme parks, I was always even afraid to attempt tricks on my skateboard, and I used to hate working out. But literally overnight, something happened to my psyche and now I almost foam at the mouth thinking about how challenging the coming trials will be. I love riding roller coasters, the adrenaline rush, and all of a sudden I also started to love working out and participating in action sports like Jiu-Jitsu. My parents always ask me, "Why would you choose infantry? There's nothing you can do with it outside of the military, please just think about your future a little bit!" but I can never give them an answer. I always used to be really skinny, pale (as an Asian/African american/Caucasian mix can be), have such a bad posture I needed a brace to keep my chest from being deformed, and always so meek I could never look somebody in the eyes for too long. Now all of a sudden, I feel the desire to get into fights, I find myself staring people I don't know down (which is kinda creepy), and just being more aggressive in general. It surprises me too, I've never thought I would react that way before. My parents and friends say I also look much more confident than I used to, and that I'm even more charismatic than before. I have no idea what's happened to me, but what I do know is that this is the job I want to do. Sorry for rambling, I don't believe anybody reads this, so this was the result of actively soul searching while typing a journal entry. But I do feel more confident in my decision now, even though I pretty much just said it's useless outside the military, but for some reason I just feel I have to do this. Welp, it's 1:12 AM and I'm feeling tired so I'm gonna end this with the usual picture of a penguin and go to bed. Why a penguin? You might ask, well, it's cause they're adorable when babies, and friggin cool (pun unintended) when they grow up!
  6. Alright, today I did a lot for my upper body, but not so much for my cardio. Here's what I did today: For Pull Ups - 7 Pull Ups after warm up 90 second rest 8 Chin ups 90 second rest 7 Wide Pull ups 90 second rest 5 Chin ups 90 second restFor Sit Ups - After about a 3-5 minute break, I did 24 sit ups 20 Leg lifts 20 Hip Raises 22 Supermans Rested for 30 seconds 1 minute 15 second plank 16 Bird Dogs (weird name right?) 22 Reverse Crunches 20 Mountain Climbers 30 seconds of rest 18 Sit ups 40 second side plank 26 Marching Twists 24 CrunchesFor Push Ups - After around a 10 minute break I started of with 14 push ups (nothing fancy about these, just regular push ups) 60 second rest 18 Push ups 60 second rest 14 Push ups 60 second rest 14 Push ups 60 second rest and then 25 push ups to finish it all off.I don't know, I felt like I could do around 20 more, but I'm used to just going until muscle failure. I'm using the 0 to 100 push ups app for the iPhone, made by these people (albeit an older version), the Fifty Pull Ups app by Coded Robot, and the 7 Weeks to 300 Sit Ups app by CDC Labs. Just wanted to post those there in case anybody with similar goals could check them out if they wanted to. Not a bad day, could barely push myself off the floor at the end, but the soreness just lets you know you did something today Gnight
  7. I'm addicted to League of Legends, but I'm also in the Elder Scrolls Online beta, so I play that whenever a test is happening usually. I have over 100 games in my steam library, but to be honest the only game I play out of it anymore is Rome Total War 2. Currently trying to get into the Kingdoms Under Fire 2 beta with limited success though
  8. January 15, 2014 AD Again, not much happening today, I made it a rest day since my fore-arms were hurting so much I had trouble getting a firm grip on my water bottle. I think I went too ham on yesterday's pull ups, but still proud of the number I got to! Only 5 more until I meet my pull ups goal for the six week challenge, piece of cake!! Only other things that really happened today were that I applied to Chipotle for a part time job, and went out to eat dinner at Long Horn Steak House with my parents. That's about it, it was a slow day, but sometimes we need slow days right?
  9. Just rested a bit today, recuperating after my fitness test, will hit the ground running tomorrow! My fore-arms hurt a lot today, to the point to where I had trouble just grabbing my water bottle. I think I might've pushed a bit too hard on the pull ups, since that was around 3-4 more than I could do two days before the test xD
  10. Thank you very much for the advice, I'll give them a try, especially the swimming in clothes, and I'll also look into the Armstrong program you mentioned.
  11. These are really good goals man, it's kinda funny cause that last quote is exactly what my dad has always told me whenever I said I was sorry for something. You've probably already thought of this, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to mention, I've found that setting my watches and various clocks (even my car's clock) to be 10 minutes early has led to me being able to be early for my appointments, or at least on time! good luck!
  12. Actually, I'm not even at these numbers anymore, just tested myself again today, so I will be working myself back up to these numbers. Any advice on working out, specifically body weight strength training, would still be extremely welcome though. Thank you Nianis
  13. January 15, 2014 AD So not much happening today, it's been snowing all day which is really pretty actually. But for today's workout I did a fitness test to see where I stand at for my first 6 week challenge here on Nerd Fitness, I'll go ahead and retype my results here so if you're interested you won't have to go to a second page: 1.5 mile run: ~12:00 (I walked 5 minutes for a warm up which put me around 0.05 mi on the treadmill, but I forgot and stopped at 1.5mi, so I added another minute to account for the other 0.05 i didn't do) 10 minute break (wanted to do 4:00 but things happened and it ended up taking around 10) Pull Ups: 15 3 minute break 2 minutes of sit ups: 55 2:00 break 2 minutes of push ups (changed my mind on what I wanted to do at the last second): 54Thank god for copy and paste~! That's about it for today I think, even though it's only 4:17 PM where I am, nothing's really planned for today. OH, I almost forgot! I would just like to give a shout out to Lilith, from the Assassin guild for teaching me how to put that completely awesome (in my opinion) progress bar for my life's Epic Quest! If anyone else that sees this would like to know how to do it, here's the exact message she sent me! Lilith - "Of course I don't mind sharing! It wasn't something I made anyway. I found it in someone's post, just like you, loved it and poked around to see how it was done. This is the exact bar copypasted but with # in it all the # have to go out [#progress=cyan]12.9[/progress] So Cyan can be many colors, there are lists on the internet somewhere, but things like blue, red, yellow all work (and there's stuff like lightblue I believe, just try it out see what you like!) Then the number is for how far the bar fills up. It's easy!" Thanks again Lilith! Now that's about it for today, excuse me while I go get a cup of hot chocolate and watch the snow fall outside my window while reading The Best of Hammer and Bolter - Volume two
  14. I got a lot of work cut out for me to finish my first challenge, but I'm up for it

  15. Awesome, someone else that was tardy to the party! :D I know you'll be able to reach your goals! We may be newbies, but we got what it takes ;D
  16. Thank you, and yea when I first started doing them around 4-5 months ago I could only do 2 before I was wiped out xD But anyways, just got done with my fitness test and the results are pretty humbling: 1.5 mile run: ~12:00 (I walked 5 minutes for a warm up which put me around 0.05 mi on the treadmill, but I forgot and stopped at 1.5mi, so I added another minute to account for the other 0.05 i didn't do) 10 minute break (wanted to do 4:00 but things happened and it ended up taking around 10) Pull Ups: 15 3 minute break 2 minutes of sit ups: 55 2:00 break 2 minutes of push ups (changed my mind on what I wanted to do at the last second): 54I thought I could do a lot more than what I did, especially on the sit ups and run, so I'm pretty disappointed in myself. However I will not change my goals, since it's my fault I slacked off for too long I should own up and overcome my self inflicted pain. I will be working hard for the next...um....*checks calendar* 4 weeks. I'll do a new fitness test at the beginning of every week and post it in this thread to keep a log of how I'm improving! Good luck and never quit!
  17. This is my first time participating in a 6 week challenge, and even though I started a little late, I still plan to accomplish my goals! Goals: Perform a physical fitness test to see where I stand Improve my max consecutive push ups by 15 Improve my max consecutive sit ups by 20 Be able to do 20 pull ups in a row Run 1.5 miles in 9:30That's all, looking forward to crossing these off! :D
  18. Hey there everybody! Sorry if you've been seeing my posts all over the place today, but I'm trying to get involved with the community, cause you're all awesome! Here's my epic quest, that will span many years!! The Quest: Join a special operations unit in the militaryServe 4 years in the American militaryGet a full back and/or chest tattooBecome an official member of the American militaryObtain the mythical item called "Girlfriend"Travel to a different countryPet a penguinDo 100 Push Ups in 2:00 on an official PT testDo 100 Sit Ups in 2:00 on an official PT testRun 2 miles in 12:00 or less on an official PT testGo to military Basic TrainingGo into combatSome might think that last one isn't really a good goal, but oh well! These obviously aren't in order, but I'll be adding more to it as I accomplish these goals! Hope everyone had a happy new year!
  19. January 14, 2014 AD Introduction - Hey there everyone, or no one as the case may be. I'm Nianis, and I'm a 19 year old guy from Cincinnati, OH. I'm currently in the process of trying to join the military, which requires a lot of working out, especially for my job. I've been trying to keep journals off and on for a few years now, but I've never actually been able to stick with it and just keep forgetting about it eventually. Hopefully this will change it, as I'll actually have to come back and check this site! That being said, right now I know I'm just some level 1 rebel and haven't achieved too much, but I guarantee that I will show you all my potential and one day RULE THE WORLD! But for now, this will just be something I will log my workouts in, and also just a public journal about the various happenings in my life. Currently - I've been waiting in the Air Force DEP for a ship date for almost 11 months now, and I'm getting sick of it. I gave my recruiter until the end of this month to come up with something, and if he doesn't I'm leaving for the Army. A lot of people might think that I'm being too picky about the kind of job I want, but to them, I say this: It's my life, I have a right to be picky. I've worked my booty off to even qualify for this job, not even mentioning keeping qualified. If you still think I'm too picky after the first two reasons, then you're just an unreasonable person >:c Other than that, I've pretty much just been working out, not really watching what I eat though, it's never really been a problem for me. That's about it, thanks for reading my post! I'll most likely post another one tomorrow, since today was a rest day. If anyone's around the Cincinnati area and is looking for a work out partner, just send me a message and I'll do my best to keep up! Nianis Out.
  20. Hello, I just reintroduced myself on the introductions thread, but I'll do a quick recap of it here since most of you probably don't/won't read it . I'm a 18 year old male that's currently waiting in the US Air Force DEP. I've passed the PAST which is required for people to enlist into a special operations job in the AF, here is what the test consists of (in order) just to give you a basic understanding of my fitness level: Event 1: 2x25m Underwater Swim (Pass or Fail) 3 minute break Event 2: 500m Surface swim, (15:00 or less) 30 minute break (but in reality they only give us 10 minutes) Event 3: 1.5 mile run (10:10 or less) 2 minute break and then however long it takes us to get down to the weight room Event 4: 11 Pull Ups (the minimum is 8, but no one should shoot for the minimum) 3 minute break Event 5: 60 sit ups in 2:00 (minimum of 48) 3 minute break Event 6: 55 push ups in 2:00 (minimum of 48) I get better scores than these, but not by much, and I've hit a wall with my push ups. This is why I would like to humbly ask for all your help though. To be honest I've just started working out for the first time in my life last spring, which is around the time I decided I wanted to do special operations in the military. Also, I'm sorry if this comes off the wrong way but, I am reasonably physically gifted. I've never had to worry about eating too much because I burn it all of in my sleep, I gain muscle quicker than others and lose it slower than most. I've also hardly ever done any cardio, I can pass the 1.5 mile run in 10:10 just as I naturally am, and it took me 2 weeks to go from not knowing how to swim to being able to swim 500m in ~12 minutes. But all these things are now biting me in the butt, since I've never really had to train that hard for anything, I don't know what to do now. I have no idea how to start building myself a work out plan, or build a proper nutrition plan. Especially since most of the things I've found on the internet are how to lose weight or become the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, when I want to train for military service. I've also pretty much never even touched weights before, so I have no clue how much weight I should be using, the reps, sets, etc. I'm at a complete loss on what I should do, what I should eat, when I should eat. Basically everything. So, again I'm sorry if I've come off as some cocky young butt-wipe, but I've only said those things because I thought it might have an effect on any potential plan we might come up with. I'm currently unemployed living at my parent's house, and as such I would like to utilize anywhere from 4-6 hours for working out on any given day, mixing a good amount of strength, endurance, and cardio into one solid plan. Any help I could receive from you all would be extremely welcome. Thank you very much for reading my post and I look forward to working with you all . (P.S I've been told that this is a great community, so I'm sure you're all awesome, but I'm still incredibly nervous D: )
  21. Alright, it's been about two years since I last logged in here! Just read my first introduction and it made me wanna drop kick my younger self through the computer. Seriously. Anyways, since it's been a long time and I never really posted anything other than that introduction thread, I figured I might as well reintroduce myself in a less embarrassing way. I'm a 19 year old guy from Cincinnati, OH and I have been waiting in the Air Force DEP for almost a year now. In my first introduction when I was 17, I was around 140 pounds, and since then I've put on another 8 pounds of muscle, which when looking at it now doesn't seem like much for a whole year . I got qualified for one of the special operations jobs in the AF and since then I've been trying to maintain and improve my physical condition to make training as non-hellish as possible, but with limited success. I'll be asking for advice in their appropriate places later, but I'm looking forward to improving alongside everyone here! (P.S Sorry if this came off a little long-..um....texted, but I felt I had to make up for my atrocious intro from 2 years ago )

  23. Hello everyone! My name is Devon, I'm a 17 year old male from Ohio looking to get in good/great shape before I join the United States airforce next year after I graduate. I am currently 6'1" and weigh approximately 140 pounds, so I'm a little on the thin side, but I'm currently working to fix that ;D. To be honest, I have no idea how I ended up on this site (kinda like when you spend more than 10 minutes on youtube) but I'm so glad I did! I've read a few articles and creeped on the forums a little bit and I think this site and the people on it are amazing. I sincerely look forward to participating in challenges with you all, I have a blog that I'm going to try to keep updated from now to throughout my military career, and possibly beyond. It still needs a little work though before I'm not too embarrassed for people to read >.> Stay Classy, Nianis (P.S I'm in the Planetside 2 beta, if anyone else in it and wants to add a BAMF to their squad, lemme know. My name is Nianis there too ;P)
