  1. Thanks for the advice. I dunno, I thought I was pretty specific. I put a lot of thought into my post, it took me an hour to write. The Challenge Instructions said that my main quest could be something that takes 6 weeks to a year to accomplish, and since I don't have a date that I want or need to be at this goal weight, I'm not going to stress about it. I want to be healthy. I'm using this opportunity to jumpstart it.
  2. Main Quest: To weigh 150lbs. I'm at 208lbs right now, and have gone up or down ten pounds in the past few years, but I would like to start losing the weight, and keep losing it until I get to 150lbs. Why 150lbs? It the last weight I remember thinking that I was fat when I wasn't, before I starting gaining weight and actually becoming fat. I was 20 then, am 30 now. And there's no need for me to weigh this much. Plus, 150lbs looks good on my 5'11" frame. I don't plan on losing any more, because I also would like to do strength training. If I gain muscle weight, I'm good, but all this chub needs to go. I don't have a specific date for me to meet this goal, I just thought my first 6 week challenge could get me jump started. My three goals: Elimination diet: This first week will be spent researching and planning an elimination diet. I plan to eliminate dairy, gluten, eggs, refined sugar, and soy for a few weeks and then reintroduce them into my diet to see if any of them cause any gastric distress. I figure it'll be a Paleo diet, so I'll follow the diet strictly for the 23 days. If I find I like it, I won't bother reintroducing some of the foods I eliminated, like gluten or dairy.Do the beginner body weight workout three times a week, with a cardio workout in the intervening days. I hate cardio, I find it boring, so I plan on doing something fun like pow wow dancing and Zumba.Be more active during my work hours. Alternate standing/sitting until I can stand the whole day if I want to. Get up and stretch, move my body, every 20 minutes. Life Quest: Catch up on my bills. I was unemployed for a while last year and juggled my payments by paying one bill one month but not two others, etc. I've been employed for three months now and am still playing catch up. I figure I'll be caught up in the next six weeks. Motivation: I have two young nieces that I love and adore. And they love and adore me; they think I'm beautiful and want to be just like me when they grow up. I think it's amazing that I'm their standard of beauty, and even though I'm overweight I'm actually pretty comfortable with my body and the way I look. I've accepted that I'm kind of funny looking, and am socially awkard and weird. But the fact that they want to be like me has made me realize that I need to set a better example of being healthy. I also want to be able to play with them for as long as they want me to play without needing to rest.
  3. When I was 20 my left hip/lower back were injured in a game of Red Rover, and over the years I had been subconsciously favouring that side of my body and now it is significantly weaker than my right side. I've been doing the Beginner Body Weight Workout for the past three weeks and noticed that if I'm not paying attention my body shifts itself to take weight off the left side when I'm doing squats. Today, while I was going through my second set of squats, my body shifted and I hurt my hip/back. I don't want my progress to be affected by this, so I was wondering if there other exercises I could do while this healed, and if I could continue to do the other exercises in the Beginner Body Weight Workout?
  4. Hi, I'm new to the rebellion, but I'm in Edmonton, Alberta.
  5. I've been reading Nerd Fitness for two years now, and even joined the forum a year ago, and putting off starting my fitness journey wanting things to be right when I did. But alas, things are never quite "right" in life are they, conditions are never perfect. For the past month though, I've been putting some serious thought into getting started, but once again, putting things off until the next week for whatever reason. No reason really. Two days ago, I decided "Ah to hell with it," and began my journey with the Beginner Body Weight Workout. I did three circuits at a modified level, I have a hip injury that I realized I've been coddling for years and arthritis in my knees and I have terrible upper body strength, but I was quite proud of myself for pushing through and finishing all three. I was sweaty and sore, and am still quite sore, but I loved it. I thought to myself, "I could do this! What was I waiting for?!" And looked forward to the next workout day. Which happens to be today. I was exhausted, and sore, and grumpy. But I made myself go through the three circuits again, this time a little more modified so I wouldn't hurt myself. (I'm not grumpy anymore, still tired and sore though.) I decided to begin posting on the boards to track my progress, and have some support, and find inspiration and motivation to keep going. I've come up with a list of some short term goals which I think will be attainable and provide me with motivation as well. One of my biggest struggles will be eating healthy, which is actually why I kept putting off starting - not so that I could keep eating junk, but I wanted to be able to do everything perfect all at once. There's that word again. I'm not eating great this week, I don't have a lot of money so I'm eating what I can for now without eating junk, but having started working out I realize what my body needs and I'll be able to figure out meals by the weekend. So this is me. I look forward to interacting with you, and figuring out my class. Something between a Ranger and Druid, maybe a Monk? I haven't decided.
