  1. Yay! Glad to see the kayak make an appearance in the pictures... are you still paddling at all? Who needs to workout when building a gym will give you the gains that going to the gym would give you? "Crap, I need to move the rack and all of these weights over here to clean the floor, and then move them all back?"
  2. In the lead up to the challenge, I am doing pretty well. Meditation is going well, I'm being careful with my food intake, and I'm here in the forums. I hit the gym twice this week, yesterday I tried to be careful about not doing too much lifting (do just enough) and I feel like I did okay at that. It was deep squats and a bunch of accessory arm work. I feel it today, but I'm not hobbling or grimacing getting on and off the toilet I need to just keep it up. And thnx @Everstorm @Tanktimus and @Snarkyfishguts for the encouragement
  3. If the dahlias can't overwinter, it is simple to dig them up, dust them off and put them in a bag in a dry cool place for the winter. I plan on doing some winter crops in that bed during that time, then I can bring the dahlia tubers back out in spring. I think the problem you can have overwintering them is that they tend to rot if it gets cold and wet, but not cold enough.
  4. Fresh name change, and fresh respawn. The theme of this challenge (and of life lately) is "Enough." As in, when can we say we have enough? Enough money, enough health, enough work, enough hardship... you get the idea. What do I want to do for this challenge? Maintain exercise - I'm hitting the gym at least twice a week lately and doing home workouts two other days of the week... and making sure I get a good walk in every day on top of that. My goal is to maintain that cadence and not add to it right now (I'm doing enough for now) Cut back on unhealthy foods - the best way to do this is to make sure I am consuming enough healthy foods that there is no room for the unhealthy ones. Meditate at least three days a week - I have found that time on the bus (three days a week) are a great time to meditate. My goal is to use that time when I can, and make up for it other times for those times I don't take the bus. Keep up with the forums - This will be the difficult one. I had to dip during my last challenge (related to the name change) and now have to rebuild the habit without taking up too much of my time and energy (again that concept of enough) So, in the end, will I be enough?
  5. Yay! Farm work is exercise, lifting hay/feed bags is functional strength, chasing chickens is cardio, setting up electric fences (and then checking them every week) is it's own adventure race. I'm a bit jealous 😜
  6. I got the go-ahead to plant Dahlias this year and they are looking to produce quite a bit. Our gladiolus are this crazy bright red flower that we didn't know we had (they were choked out the last couple of years) so following for flower buddies
  7. Jealous of your farm life... I miss it. I do feel like an hour of heavy gardening/mucking chickens/turning compost is like weight training for an hour... only you can do it for 3 hours and when you are done you can look at it and feel like you've accomplished something. Also, I feel sore after that work, but tend to not get DOMS like I do with weight training. Also, the mental health benefits are amazing. Thnx for sharing, it is appreciated.
  8. Holy Crap! Shingles sux. It might also help account for the elevated anxiety beforehand, but hard to know with so much pet stress. Just know, once you are through with these catastrophes, you will deserve a Cat Ass Trophy of your own.
  9. I played the WoD games in the 90's. One of my favorite moments of role playing was when I was GMing a Werewolf game doing a dream sequence (as one does in Werewolf) where they had to fight a horde of children (chimeras really) that were becoming monsters. The monsters would get more and more powerful until they were defeated. Then our more empathetic player figured it out and started hugging the monsters and they turned back into children. This also clued them in that the "real" threat wasn't the obvious one, but whatever was behind it. As weird and dark as those games are/were, they allowed for some really powerful scenes like that.
  10. That reminds me of the call to action of one of my favorite sailing YouTube channels https://sailinguma.com "Don't buy a couch if you want to travel the world"
  11. So, what I hear you saying is that you were over-thinking the fact that you over-think everything... is that right? 😜
  12. Except I still look like I’m a flailing goblin! πŸ˜… A better flailing goblin
  13. It never gets easier, you just get better.
  14. Sick kiddo is such a test of patience. It also always ends up a test of self forgiveness… it is really easy to look at all the things you could have done better and not be as aware of how much just being there and sticking with her during this is worth. Hang in there, know that many of us have been through it.
  15. I can't remember where I read it, but some author once said that the best stories include a bunch of characters that deserve their own books. That choosing which character's story to write doesn't mean you don't think about the stories of all of the other characters. They said that was the only way to make sure all the side characters have depth.
  16. I went through this same thing with my hockey gear a few years ago. I lived almost an hour from the rink, late games ended at 11:45, and I was destroyed the next two days. As much as I loved playing, I am glad I am not playing any longer.
  17. But it can be very therapeutic sometimes.
  18. Can I just say I _almost_ started a challenge just so I could name it "BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB" just to mess with you? 😜
  19. Graham crackers came out of a temperance movement that wanted to limit sweet biscuits, non-vegetarian meals, and masturbation. Basically, they are slightly sweet crackers made with coarse ground whole wheat flour. Digestive biscuits, while similar in their sweetness, are more defined by the use of bicarbonate and caraway instead of the coarse ground whole wheat flour... but I'm sure they would be an okay substitute. So, graham crackers for preventing masturbation or digestive biscuits for preventing farts… your choice I guess 😜
  20. The idea of a s'more: A perfect bite of sweet gooey, chocolatey, crunchy snack often had outdoors. The reality of a s'more: Sitting around a campfire with friends/family laughing over someone dropping their marshmallow in the fire and trying to figure out how the heck you got marshmallow in your hair while trying to make the perfect s'more, but being really happy with the sloppy mess you've got.
