  1. Pretty awful actually - have been sick / not great for a while. I think today is the first time in almost 2 weeks that I'm not taking anything and still feel ok. Not much progress to report, just been focusing on work and home stuff. The bare essentials. Hopefully I'm finally shaking this crud off.
  2. In other news - have a very computer-related space nerd video:
  3. Not a great couple of days. Friday some Access study, that's about it. Saturday Got my run in: 25 pushup 5 pullup 10 squat - 2 35lb kettlebell front squat run - 3.04 miles in 26:54 walk - .85 mile in 15:11 10 squat - 2 35lb kettlebell front squat 5 pullup 25 pushup Sunday nothing Some post-nasal drip Thursday & Friday has become what I guess is a full onset cold so Sunday I had planned for the gym, but family life didn't pan out for that during the day and once I was free for the evening just ready for bed so no fall-back session.
  4. Consultancy huh? How do you like that? My first industry job out of college (university? I think you call it) was with a small consulting firm. Hated it - mostly the drive for billable hours. They didn't have many clients and the emphasis on billing started to make me feel uncomfortable after a couple of months. I agree - it varies by business and even inside a business by each service. Yeah - everyone in the family is definitely not on the same path. Wife doesn't have much interest in finance besides how much $$ is available now :(. Have tried to talk about things - but since she considers herself the largest expense in the family that discussion just leads to her declaring she'll stop going to the doctors. It's frustrating. I've tried showing her examples from around the internet but there's always some reason it doesn't apply to our situation - they make more money, or they don't have kids, or something. So it's just me - and since I handle most of the spending I look at it as my fault anyways. Must be more disciplined about it. I was doing something right in 2017, just need to repeat it!
  5. I'm in the USA. OOOOO a Miata - those look like so much fun!! My first car was a Saturn ION quad coupe - almost exactly this: I bought it just before they (Saturn) released their Sky roadster. If I went back in time I think I'd make myself wait a few months and try one of those out: Anyways now I have a boring Kia Forte - gets me from point A to point B but that's about it. We got my wife a Mazda 3 - that's the fun car now! Way to go! Keep pushing the no alcohol - a week is about as far as I can make it so . Momentum is so vital to stuff like that, don't you think? Hardest part is always getting started. You've got this certification stuff. Are you taking like the actual vendor exams for certification or something else? How did first day (back?) to work go?
  6. A 2 seater huh? A manual I assume? Kinda jealous. My car got totalled out in June, I loved it - a manual coupe - just sporty enough. Replaced it with something mostly just for work commute, but big enough for the whole family. Not much fun though (wife got the fun car). Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
  7. Today sucked - interrupted in middle of night because daughter had an accident in her bed - tired all day. Perked up a little tonight but not much. More Access study today, plus certification study (even if only a few paragraphs). Apple + Smart Break(?) for breakfast; pho from food court for lunch (sore throat), spaghetti squash taco boats for dinner. Extras - a few drinks, a leftover halloween funsize candy. 2 separate rounds of pushups and pullups (25 push-ups, 5 pull-ups) today. Second round started off my workout, in addition to the pushups / pullups: 3 circuits of 5 prying goblet squats w/ 35lb kettlebell, 5 bridge, 5 halo (each side) w/ 35lb kettlebell (this is the Simple & Sinister program warmup) 10 reps kettlebell deadlift w/ 55lb Bell 5 reps kettlebell goblet squat w/ 40lb vest and 55lb bell (these two extra I added) 10 x 10 kettlebell swings, two-handed, 55lb bell 1x5 kettlebell getup (each side), 35lb bell Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah - Windows server stuff. Right now my primary focus is supporting Exchange and all the associated mail pieces, the System Center suite, and Windows 10. Kind of a generalist with specialties? I don't really need the certifications, my job doesn't care, but they will pay for study materials and the exams so I figure why not? Besides I always learn something during the study process. Azure and AWS both? Seems your company is going heavy into the cloud. Our management seems to be leaning towards Exchange Online, but I'm not sold on it as a solution for us. Thanks for the book recommendation. I will take a look. I've read a lot of personal finance stuff and get the core idea - spend less money. It's the implementation, especially supporting a family, that trips me up. It's especially frustrating because I spent 2017 paying debt down, and more than undid all of that progress this year. 9. If I may ask - why the interest in trucks? Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk

  11. It has been an interesting selection to read. I moved this year (2018) out of self-help sort of stuff into more historical stuff, which I've been finding fascinating. History as an adult is so much more interesting than it was in school - I think because I'm can dig into the specifics that interest me, instead of just a dry recitation of dates and facts. My jam right now is how / why sort of stuff - why things are the way they are, why this empire fell but not that one, and origins. So intriguing. Still a fiend for the Dew. Try to keep it to diet now though, and in moderation. Works fine so long as I'm not drinking (which I usually am so... [emoji31]) Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk

  13. Goodbye 2018, and the abject failure of my goals for you as well. Wanted to pay down credit debt, doubled it instead (and added a car loan). Wanted to get a professional certification, didn't (barely even studied). The only bright spot was my reading goal -. set out to read 12 books (non-fiction, non-technical) for the year, and completed 10. Bright spots. Didn't have any official fitness / health goals in 2018, but work on my pushup and pullup capacity has yielded progress. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
  14. You can do it! My condolences about your losses in 2018 Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
  15. Wow does this still work? Gone for a little over 4 years - looks like a lot has changed. Resurrecting this log for 2019 as I tackle new goals - we'll see how it goes. 16. Wandering back in for a brief update. Getting back into the gym. Last week I was 3/3 on working out. Goal is same for this week. Squats are still my bane, fighting at just above 100lb. Left hip pain came back after last workout. Some digging today, and found http://www.ericcressey.com/newsletter150html and also http://breakingmuscle.com/mobility-recovery/squats-and-hip-dysfuction-2-common-problems-and-how-to-fix-them. So possibly my issue is caused by lack of "butt" in my squatting. Possibly not, but at least now I can add some "butt"-work and see how things pan out. Doing some other stuff, running on the weekends & taking jujitsu classes at nights. Trying to keep active whether going to the gym or not.
  17. The chicken dish is excellent. This one is also very good.
  18. So... I've been ignoring the forum of late. Recipe: http://sweettreatsmore.com/2012/12/jalapeno-popper-chicken-chili/ Trying to get the gym habit restarted. Been averaging one trip a week. Eating is still going well. Up to about 151lb. Trying to get the family more on board with eating better, especially the wife. It's not easy. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  19. Last week I successfully completed the work week eating like a horse! Unfortunately during the weekend things feel apart. Diet right now is usually: Breakfast Snack (Tuna or chicken salad sandwich) Lunch Snack (Peanut butter sandwich) Dinner +2 thermos of milk (about 4 cups) Been eating an awesome chicken chili for breakfast, but I think after three weeks it's about time for a change so need to look for something to change things up.
  20. Last week's progress on my 21-day eating challenge went pretty good. Wednesday was an off day, but Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri were all good, and even during the weekend I did much better than usual, getting three solid meals Sat/Sun. Made chicken thighs last night & also prepped lunches for through Wednesday. Need to do more prep tonight, as breakfast needs to be prepared for still. Beginning to adapt to the increase in food which is really nice. Goal for this week is to complete the work week successfully, and drink more milk during the weekend.
  21. Just wrapped up 30 more regular for this week, to add to the 30 decline (45 points) and 75 regular already for this week (150 points) and the 150 points from last week. Boom! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  22. Yesterday: B - sweet potato hash & breakfast casserole; S1 - PB sandwich; L - chicken thigh, veggies & rice; S2 - PB sandwich; D - roast chicken, veggies & salad Milk w/ all (like 5 glasses total) + mtn dew & honey whiskey with and after dinner
  23. Personally I think all the beer drinking sounds GREAT, but I'm a drinker. That ice cream though... bleh. Ice cream. How can you eat it?
  24. The challenge format just isn't working for what I'm trying to accomplish right now, so the action returns here. From my recent challenge I now know what works for me to eat to fuel working out, so I'm embarking on my own mini-challenge starting today to do this for 21 days straight. I picked 21 days b/c that's apparently the "magic" number to solidify a new habit. Blathering to follow: I will accomplish this by 1) batch cooking breakfast & lunch food on Sunday 2) prepping the next day's food the previous night 3) using a schedule for eating (because otherwise i'll make food & won't eat it!) 3a) 0630 - breakfast 3b) 1000 - snack 3c) 1300 - lunch 3d) 1500 - snack 3e) 1900 - dinner
  25. So.... long belated very short update. Still here, still cranking out my 150 points a week!
