  1. Hi Folks, I've been trying to gain strength for the past year but not got very far because of injuries. Every time I start to make consistent gains (about 1 or 2 months after starting training) I get minor pains in (i think) tendons or other tissue around the joints. If I try to keep on training, these get worse. And they usually take a month or more to heal so I lose my progress. In my last period of training I didn't do squats and deadlifts (because of a lingering hamstring tendon issue) but took chinups, bench presses, and presses very gradually, only increasing the weight every two weeks. I still ended up with a bicep tendon injury and an old shoulder injury returned. I'm at a loss as to what to do now, as I really want to get stronger. Do I need to start with bodyweight exercises or see a physiotherapist? Background: My routine is based on starting strength: squats (3x5) deadlifts (1x5) benchpress (3x5) alternating with press (3x5) and chinups. I've been careful with my form, using Rippetoe's book as a guide, and I do plenty of warmup sets and lift in a controlled manner. Age: 23, Build: skinny. Thanks, Richard.
