  1. Hi! Here's what I've learned lately about me and stress. Back in the day, I used to sleep it off and resort to couch potatoey-ness. Now, I keep busy. It feels so much better. I exercise, prepare the next day's meals, play with the dogs, practice piano, read... anything! It takes my mind off of my troubles (the pesky things I can't control!) and I feel good about getting something accomplished. Plus I'm getting pretty strong. No pull ups yet but I'm getting there! And I'm getting a little bit of definition in my arms... or at least I think I am!
  2. Eep! I did not read it! I'll have to check it out after work. They may or may not be tracking our computer use so I have decided to err on the side of caution.
  3. Hey there! Great goals! Wow, that almost sounds like the beginning of a really bad pick-up line.... anyways, keep it up! Stretching is your friend!
  4. I want that friggin pull up so bad I can taste it! This time I'm going all out. I have a trip coming up at the end of the month and it would be nice to look a bit better for it. Also, work has been absolutely insane. We had a very sudden change in leadership and the once pleasant environment is now hostile and uncertain... but I'm determined not to let that drag me down any more. Here be my goals: 1. Continue the quest for the Holy Grail (pull ups, chin ups)! 2-3 times per week, depending on how much I destroy my muscles in a workout. 2. Beginner bodyweight workout 3x per week because it's just awesome. 3. Keep the temptresses at bay: No work candy (just my super awesome dark chocolate stash). Ice cream only 2x per week. 4. Avoid the stress tar pits. There is only so much I can control. If the powers that be insist on leaving the Wicked Witch of the West in charge, so be it. That doesn't change who I am. I am a happy person and I won't let some under-qualified control freak ruin that. My team needs my insanity and humor now more than ever. Today I did 1 and 4. 4 ended up being a 3 or 4 mile walk with the dogs. I was in a shitty mood because tomorrow is Monday and I didn't want to go back to the battlegrounds. I decided to take the dogs out and walk until I felt better. It worked. A couple of neighbors stopped me to ask me about my little dog (shiba inu) and it was nice. Usually I get questions about the mastiff!
  5. I'm starting my third pole dancing class tomorrow and the instructor strongly recommended getting some booty shorts/boyshorts. You need your skin to be able to stay on the pole which becomes extremely important when you start to invert (eep!). When I'm walking or running outside and it's pushing 100 degrees and is humid as fuck, I'm tempted to do it naked. However, I have no desire to share my stretch marked lumpy thighs with the world so hidden they shall remain until I'm too damned old to care!
  6. Made it to reverse pully uppy things. Practiced almost every day. This will be brief. My professional world has been turned upside down because my boss- the big boss- was suddenly fired yesterday. It reeks of sabotage. I am utterly disgusted, heartbroken, and afraid.
  7. Sorry to hear you've had so many setbacks.... yet I am impressed by your rather awesome attitude. "The circumstances have changed, but I can still keep going. It just looks a bit different now." That is just brilliant. I think I'll have to share this with a friend of mine who is also my teacher. She works with injured pianists (that's what I used to be!) and I think she would just love that quote.
  8. Smart move getting your road trip buddy to agree to the no fast food rule! And woohoo for the compliments on your blog!
  9. Down 13 pounds? That's great!!
  10. Your credit card thanks you for giving it a break! Good work!
  11. Thanks! I'm learning quite a bit and I'm already starting to think about the next challenge.
  12. A noble goal indeed (of course doing a pull up or chin up is my current goal)! Nice work! I hope to join you in the pull up club soon!
  13. I'm inching closer to my pull up goal over here! How have you been?
  14. That's a great attitude! You are so right. Maybe you won't be doing the disco but you can still kick lots of ass by fueling yourself with good foods. Surely your hip will thank you for the nutrients.
