  1. Did my LAST c25K run last night!! Woot!! Woot!!! I'm a graduate! Going to look into a next step for progressing from here. Any other app suggestions? (LOVED this one... it kept me on-track and motivated) Is there a way to start the c210K from this point? (and not the couch as beginning point?)
  2. Thanks! I'm on it! Yeah... quiet is NOT good! But when time is short, I figure better to get out there and DO the workout than to sit online catching up... But that means I'm not woefully behind on reading everyone's updates!! Time to spend some time catching up on walls! Finger is much better now... still not great at gripping a dumbell or bar, but trying to do things like plank from elbows and squats and lunges that don't require much from it! Thanks! I was really surprised at how much I liked it... going into it with a ho-hum mindset, I really liked much more about it than I thought I would!! I still really PREFER a nice chip trail through woodsy terrain... but if I can't get out there, it beats street-running by a long-shot in my book!
  3. Oy. WAY overdue for an update... Life has been crazy. Stop it, life! On the plus side, although things slid some, goals haven't been totally abandoned. I injured my left index finger, and the strength training had to be placed on hold... in week 3 and week 4 I only did one strength training workout each... and they were pretty pathetic ones at that. I've managed 3 runs a week, except for one week that only had 2 runs completed (darn tummy bugs need to stay away from my kiddos!!!) I'm on week 8 day 2 of my c25k program. Ran 28 minutes my last run! (w00t!) That was also the first day I've ever gone to a track to run... I assumed I'd like it a lot less, but surprised myself by actually liking it MORE. I'm kinda bored of my around-the-neighborhood circle... it was flat, springy surface, and I could just zone out and not have to worry about cracked pavement, sticks, cars, etc etc etc. It was fun to watch my Assassin-husband play with the hurtles that were still set-up. I didn't feel like I was slowing him down because he could go at his own pace and I could just keep plugging along. Have been finding it pretty easy to keep up with water-intake. Only a day or two that I haven't met my 1L goal, and usually just from drinking to thirst, have had closer to 2L in. Paper-clutter tamed, and system in place. Still need to take the time to do my weekly upkeep on it this week, but so far it's working nicely. Even took the medical folder I had made to a last-minute doctor apt for the foster-daughter yesterday... so nice to have everything in one place to be able to answer questions from! Working toward a 3-minute plank... this past week made it up to TWO minutes!! Yay!! Progress! Accomplished 20 pushups in a row!!! YAY! Still need to do my week without coffee (*dread*) and a recumbent bike workout.
  4. You're cracking me up!!! (In an entirely *right there with ya* kind of parenting way!!!) Except my oldest is an actual teenager... and there's no break from the hormones... She has her permit, and hit the house the other day trying to back the car up the driveway...not once... but MULTIPLE times... If we both survive this part of life... it'll be a miracle! Yup... identifying with the hamsters too... Way to go YOU for getting out and being active!! Bodyweight rows kill me... Still get sore EVERY TIME I do them!! (Which, I know builds character... right?)
  5. Saw your story... and didn't realize that it was you until halfway in!!! Love it! Great story!!!! SO encouraging to hear about your progression from the beginning! Thanks for sharing it!
  6. Thanks. I DO realize it would be better to stagger the days of my workouts... but am glad you agree that doing both on one day is better than leaving some I intended to get done UNdone. And no, I'm definitely not overdoing the water goal. I'm amazed at how easy it is, really to drink enough water when I am just aware of my intake... I think usually I just am oblivious and drink coffee exclusively (that week without coffee goal coming up is going to KILL me)... but I drink regular tap water (not the distilled kind that has all the minerals and such leached out of it) and not crazy amounts. The day I drank the most it was 3L. I did have an acquaintance of mine end up in the hospital after drinking distilled water exclusively to excess... she did exactly what you caution against in her quest to drink "pure" water. YIKES! So far the system is WORKING!!! Yay!!! Still getting caught up on the important bills and such that were hidden under piles and piles of the crap I went through... but at lest I know where we really stand and how to get on top of it all again! Uh... yeah. THAT's not a project I think I could complete in a 6-week timeframe.... *hides face in horror*
  7. Have done 2 runs this week... up to 25 minutes without walking! WOOT! Have noticed a BIG difference in how my runs go linked with how well I've eaten and hydrated that day (I know... this is probably a *well duh* moment, but I'm allowed a few of those... right?) Like my last run, yesterday was SO HARD... I was really fighting to stay jogging the entire time I was supposed to, and felt really slow and shuffly the whole time... Afterwards I realized I hadn't been drinking enough water that day, and had eaten eggs for breakfast, but since then only almonds, peanuts and cheese... and I was running right before dinner... NOT great planning on my part. Am glad I just got out there and did it... even if I didn't have it well planned out... but need to make sure I fuel my body better so it's set up to succeed. Strength training... NOT so good this week. Had an injury to my left first finger this week... either just really badly bruised the joint, or fractured... not sure which. Did NOT get xrays, since the treatment would be the same (splint, rest, cold compresses) but it's made me put off weights. Realizing now I could still have been doing squats/lunges/plank from elbows/etc... will try to get some of those in today and tomorrow. Best friend who lives states away has been in town this week, staying with us and visiting. Going to be sad to take her to the airport in a few hours, but glad I didn't use the excuse to toss fitness out the window for the whole week! (The old me WOULD have!) Date night tonight... looking forward to a formal function and a hotel room while the kids spend the night at Nana's
  8. Ugh. Sucks when life kicks you in the nuts like that. And yes, tempting to take a few days and lick your wounds.... but time's UP! Don't let it win!!! Get back in there and show it who's boss!!! You can TOTALLY do it!!! We're behind you! Good for you for choosing to finish strong!!!

I like the elevator goal addition! Making fitness a priority in life where you are with what you have to work with is key... The more you can build into your day in a real and attainable way, the more you set yourself up for success!! Kudos to you!!!
  10. Hey, mcalisi..... How about an update? I wanna KNOW! How's it going?
  11. How'd the Med Surg test go? And the Mountain Dew??? Update time?
  12. How's it going, girl?? Update!!! Pika24... REPORT! *in my best drill sergeant voice*
  13. So... today got in a run, did a bodyweight strength workout AND finished my PAPER CLUTTER GOAL!!! Woot Woot!!! I got a system in place for dealing with mail and incoming paper (may need some tweaks... hopefully it works) and will continue to tweak as I work on financials/budgeting/bills/etc. Yay for productive weekends!!!
  14. Yeah... my bonus goals are a little bit all over the place... but it keeps it interesting! And I like setting 'em up and knocking 'em down! I like tea ok... it's just not quite the same, if you know what I mean. I really DO want to give it a go and see if I can last a week without it... I drink 3+ cups a morning now, without really even realizing how much I have become a creature of that habit... But I wonder if I really NEED it, or if it's just out of habit that I drink it now... it will be interesting to find out! I just got in an order of some organic tea in anticipation of trying this... Guess I should give it a go soon!
  15. Update time... FLASH: Still one more run to get in for this week's goal of 3... I'm planning on it Sunday. HULK: Also one more strength training workout to go this week. I know it's more ideal to do them on opposite days, but I find that if I try to make myself do that, something doesn't get done. Because of crazy schedules between my husband and I, and 4 kids to get to all their different activities, I've been allowing myself to group my workouts on the same day on my days that are lighter-packed, doing one in the morning and one in the evening just to try to get everything in. Thoughts on this? I've been doing my c25K run in the morning and my weights/strength training in the evening after Art gets done with work. AQUAMAN: Have been able to drink a liter every day. Maybe I should have made this goal a bit harder? I got a liter water bottle, and always drink 1, if not 2 throughout the day. LOVE the meal-planning. Have followed my meal plans so far, and have not had to make extra last-minute trips to the store. STORM: It sure looks like a storm hit my dining room, with piles and piles of papers all over it!!! I think I can estimate that I'm about halfway through the paper-clutter battle! BONUSES: Do a 3-minute plank: so far, ONE minuteDo 20 push-ups without stopping: Not yetGo 1 week without coffee: Not yetGo 1 week without alcohol: DONE! Just finished my alcohol-free week. It wasn't really hard... I missed the taste of a glass of wine in the evenings when I cooked dinner, but really it wasn't bad. Now when I try to do the week without coffee.... THAT will be a challenge for me...Find and get to a yoga class: Done!Make and deliver a meal to a family who may need it: Done! Took a pot of chili to a friend with 1 week old baby.Do a recumbent bike workout: Not yet.
  16. Ooooh... OOOHH!!!! I've never done an organized run before... and as one of my goals this Challenge I looked into a couple and picked out 2 to sign up for!! Dirty Girl was one of them!!! I already signed up for it when it comes to St Louis!!! YAY!

    Phylanx Go!

Good for you for getting out there with your toddler!!! Awesome to model fitness for him, that that's what he will think is "normal"! Do you bring snacks for him?? Taking out a baggie of something new every hour or so may help with the boredom/distance for him? You may already do that... in that case, disregard, and parenting WIN!
  18. Glad to hear you're human! Days here and there of non-activity aren't deal-breakers... now if you get to 2 weeks without leaving the house, we may have to talk!
  19. Aw, shucks! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! I know it's silly to celebrate so much over two miles when I see everyone else running 10++++ distances... But I really never thought I would EVER be able to run... like... EVER. I'm seriously in awe of the rest of you... and this is the first real time that I've even thought, "hey, maybe that'll be me one day soon..." It's a good feeling!
  20. Good luck on your test tomorrow!!! May the force be with you!
  21. +1 !! I find that how much I remember to drink is directly related to WHAT I'm drinking out of. I got a few new plastic tumblers, water bottles with flip tops, and plastic glasses with the rigid lid/straw. For some reason I drink so much MORE out of these than just an open glass... and if they're pretty, even better!
  22. I'm with you on that. Away most of the weekend and worked today.... that means my day off tomorrow will be me in crazy full-on catch up mode!!!
  23. Had to come on and post.... I just ran TWENTY MINUTES WITHOUT A WALK BREAK!!!!!!! **Insert Rocky music here** I have to admit... even with the encouragement, I really didn't think I'd be able to make it.... I've never run ONE mile all the way through, much less TWO!!! I kept this in mind FOR SURE... paced myself and just kept slogging along. Thanks! And I made sure to get out there TODAY because it was 50 degrees, and is supposed to turn yucky again tonight or tomorrow morning! Thanks! Music really helps me.... I tried to keep guessing how many songs I had left... So glad you all had faith in me... I REALLY wasn't sure! LOVE the support and how we all cheer each other on! THANKS all!
