  1. I've trained myself to like certain vegetables. For example, when I first began eating better I absolutely loathed salads. I couldn't stand the lettuce, which kind of made liking salads difficult. But, I wanted to learn to enjoy lettuce so that i would have more options when eating out with my family. Initially, I trained myself by making salads that weren't very salad like. They were pretty much bacon+hardboiled eggs+beets+a tiny bit of lettuce. For a few meals the lettuce annoyed me, but then I adjusted (bacon makes everything better). Over a few more meals I changed the ratio of toppings to lettuce. Now I don't have a bowl full of toppings + lettuce, but rather a bowl full of lettuce+toppings. It took a little while, however now I really enjoy salads. Sorry, that was kind of longer than planned. The point is - liking vegetables is achievable if you're willing to put in a bit of effort. -Artemis -sorry about any typos, sent from ipad
  2. Hi, I'm headed off to University in August and was considering trying to get on the novice rowing team. Do you have any workout suggestions (I don't currently have access to a rowing machine)?
  3. Bravo! I'm on my road to standard push-ups as well. Did you use progressions to get there?
  4. Thanks for the warm reception. Progress so far: practiced trumpet for an hour yesterday and recieved my copy of You Are Your Own Gym. I read the entire thing last night (only skimmed the workouts that I won't be needing for the beginner program). Today I did my first workout session. On a side note I may be working out 4 times weekly because that's what YAYOG calls for. Haven't done the C25K yet. I need to get over that feeling that someone is watching (negative conotation) and start running because NF and my future self are watching. It'll be fun soon as I stop being stupid and just DO IT.
  5. Thanks, I'm glad to be here. This should be fun.
  6. Hi everyone! So this is my first challenge, though hopefull there are many more to come. Ok, I'm new so here's some quick info: I found Nerd Fitness about eight months ago and started eating Paleo a little over one month later. Since then I've gone from 170lbs. to about 145lbs. I'm joining this challenge to begin to build up my strength and continue to become better. So here are my challenge goals: Fitness Become fleet of foot follow the C25K program 3 times weekly - +2 STA, +1 STR Build a better body Follow the You Are Your Own Gym plan 3 times weekly (I'll be doing the beginners bodyweight workout until my copy arrives) - +3 STR, +2 DEX Eat like a huntress Follow the Paleo diet (95%) - +1 WIS, +2 CON Lifestyle Sound the Hunting Horn Practice the trumpet 3 times weekly (1/2 hour minimum) - +2 WIS, +2 CHA
  7. Ok, so I've been hanging around reading the articles for a while (about six months) since I was Steve's article on Paleo. Well, it really hit home for me and I've been mostly Paleo for the last six months. It's been amazing. In four months I went from 170 lbs. to 145 lbs, and am very happy. But I want to be better. So, I've decided it's time to join the Rebellion and begin the journey to being the best I can be. I've lost quite a bit of weight and now really want to work on my strength. The plan is to join the Assassins for the first few challenges, mostly because of the body-weight exercise emphasis. Right now I'm fairly weak, and I have a long way to go, though hopefull I'll eventually be able to strength train. Part of the reason I'm leaning towards bodyweight is because of a medical condition. I have Aortic Stenosis and have had it all my life. Aortic Stenosis is a heart condition where backflow occurs through the aortic valve. This coupled with asthma had doctors placing bans on running and other "strenuous" excercise. Meaning literally nothing, not even running a mile. At first I was ok with it because their reasoning was that excercise would put uneeded strain on my heart which was already working too hard. Lately though, I've become frustrated. It doesn't make sense, I should be able to do something. The reasoning that not taking care of myself now helps because it delays surgery seems flawed. Why throw away my life now, for a surgery that they tell me is inevitable anyways? So I'm planning to build my strength from the ground up. Hopefully a slow progression coupled with the weight loss will help my heart out. I'll be taking it slowly and carefully, but I am going to do this. Anyways, I'm glad to finally be a true member of the Rebellion and look foward to working my way to a better me.
