  1. Thank you for sharing, this was an awesome podcast. I also looked up his video on the YouTube, and it is 90 minutes of enlightenment. I had no idea about how much SALT is in cola. And apparently the difference between new coke and coke classic was the addition of more salt and caffeine, so those who drank it became thirstier! A true Alliance scheme. Here is the video:
  2. No Candy! No Pop! I'm failed the going to bed time thing though the past two night due to friend's want to play Far Cry 3. I also missed one exercise session. However, some healthy is better than no healthy, and I was definitely healthier in the past week than in the preceding three months! I've had more success cooking for myself as well, and am doing ok on trying to get one paleo meal a week. Yahm this is a problem for me right now as well. Stupid candy canes in office kitchen At least there is free black coffee. I know its not good for me to drink so much, but if I can't have pop and alcohol I need something! I've also had good luck with Orange juice cut with a lot of water. It can really sate the desire for something other than water. Yes this is my stratefy too. I'm also learning to identify my kryptonites. Pop clearly is one of them. I was doing do well this summer until I started drinking coke again....
  3. Hi All, Ug... what a horrible weekend, health wise. I missed an exercise session (excercised last night) and the past two nights I've failed my 10:30 bed goal, mostly through my friend's wanting to play co-op Far Cry 3. However, I haven't bought any candy or pop, so that counts for something! Also, some exercise is better than none and I've been cooking a lot more too. I've even tried to make more sensible decisions eating out. On Saturday, my friend's and I were playing Pen-and-Paper RPGs in a pub, and I ordered chicken and veggies instead of something that is basically deep-fried grease. Cooking is cool too. My girlfriend showed me how you can make chicken better by mixing a bit of BBQ sauce and some Grace Sauce (Jamaican Jerk stuff). Still no-where near as good as her Mom's food though! Hells yes I listen to the radio! I listen to the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) quite often, as well as Toronto NewsTalk 1010. I listen to podcasts though, and record my own with some friends! Shameless plug! http://raininganvils.ca/podcast/ So for this week, I have make sure to do exercise and bed by 10:30. I'll keep workin' on it!
  4. I managed to get through another strength training set last night. I wasn't feeling so hot and the set wasn't that great, but at least I did something Meals also haven't been great, but at least I have stayed away from the pop. I've been in bed by 10:40 everynight even if I haven't slept too much. Got some good books, re-sale value wise as well. I'm hoping to do some serious cooking on Sunday afternoon, so I'll have food I can take with me for lunch during the week. Found a recipe online for chicken Morracan stew that looks good
  5. I have a couple of friends who have the Serenity RPG, but I have never played myself. I am currently running a Feng Shui game, which is an RPG based on Hong Kong action movies. It really suits my groups high level of general insanity. In this campaign, one of them already made-out with a wendigo. Last campaign, they engineered a fake occupy protest to distract a single security guard, happily role-played 45 minutes of post-mission 'Victory Burgers', and once, in a moment of desperation, called the police. I only wish these challenges could be overcome so easily :S So far I have managed to no drink pop, and have usually had at least one Paleo healthy meal a day. I've even been getting to bed on time. But exercise has been HARD. Its been a few months since I did any strength training, and its taken me until today to recover fully from exercising on Monday. Still, I plan to do session two tonight, and a third on the weekend. How is everyone else managing?
  6. That is a fantastic idea, bildungsroman! And for the record, here is my challenge: http://nerdfitnessrebellion.com/index.php?/topic/22765-malthusx-gigo-no-more/
  7. Gah! Have me thinking I should have put in a budget goal as well. Like Seth above I also use ING, though I use it to pay myself my living expenses I use my regular old Bank of Montreal account for debt paying off. I'm planning to start investing through the ING accout later this year after I pay off debt and change appartments. Speaking of, thanks for the link to Appartment Therapy. Cool site!
  8. Soda I usually have about 2 cans or bottles a day. I mostly eat it with lunch or with a snack... or at a restaurant if I'm out (I've recently had to give up alcohol for medication reasons). Candy is not a really day to day thing, escept for the mini candy canes left over from Christmas at the office, however sometimes I will buy a bag of some sort of gummies intending only to eat a few and polish off the whole thing :S Disgusting, I know. I figure as long as I can make it from lunch to dinner without soda, and get out of the store without candy, I will be fine
  9. Honour to you, Earth Warrior! I love Avatar, and agree with Kunai that Toph is the best warrior. I've been through the entire show twice now, and am beginning to itch for another run through. Maybe I will put it on when doing the basic training for inspiration. Avatar has been a huge influence in my life and the life of one of my friends. We've been discusisng getting white lotus tattoos.
  10. I'm all for the aiming to misbehave part. As for common goals... Maybe we should focus on awareness of actual healthy things? Seriously, the Alliance (of special interest fitness and food groups) is always trying to tell us what we have to do to be healthy, and I am mistrustful of those large organizations. The internet has given us a place where we can help spread the truth! Can't stop the signal! Also, as I am new to this as well, how should we do accountability postings?
  11. Hi All, Its nice to find some sort of health community where I don't immediately feel excluded! The focus of this six week challenge is to focus on stopping the Garbage In, Garbage Out patterns that have been consuming my life. I almost stopped in the middle of the year, but over the summer went right back into old habits. This is not something I can do on my own :S So Goals! 1) Beginning Diet Allright, so I'm going to begin by cutting out soda and candy and have at least one paleo meal per day. Tonight, roast beef with spinach and horseradish. Also, thank god for black coffee. I got a Keurig machine for Christmas and it makes getting a coffee while gaming as easy as getting a soda. Also notice the lack of chips. Chips are my personal Melange, so I figure I will tackle them once the more egregious sins against health have been dealt with 2) Sleeeeeeep (and on-timeliness) I'm going to start getting to bed at 10:30 on weekdays. I said bed, as I usually read for a bit before sleep. This will allow me to get about 8 hours of sleep while allowing me to get up at 7 so I can be at work by 8:30. 3) Basic Training from Rebel Strength Guide - After work. Morning would be awseome but I have to work on the sleep thing first before I can adjust my hours 4) LIFE GOAL (side business) - Aquire inventory for online Amazon book store (finish deal I'm working on now, at least 2 scouting trips) Alright, thats my start Does anyone have any advice or thoughts, because I am always open to criticism!
