  1. augh, confused again about battle logs, challenge threads etc etc. Lest I fall off the saddle immediately, I am going to post progress here until I remember how the posting here works. It feels good to be back in such good company. I dragged out an old challenge calendar I made on a giant piece of foam core to keep track of progress on my goals. Then I made a new one for this challenge. That's most of what I have accomplished so far! I am giving myself credit for 1 rejoining nf 2 making goals 3 making a challenge chart Even though otherwise yesterday was not exactly magnificent, dietwise good luck to all and have a magnificent day
  2. Life goal; throw the one ring (need to lose weight) into the crack of Mt. Doom for good (lose 30 pounds roughly by the end of the year while building permanent attitudes to end this quest forever) goal 1: lose 1 pound a week, more or less: estimate calorie allowance, log daily, do not exceed goal calculated on weekly basis (1800 x 7 = 12600 / week) goal 2: kill off high calorie snack habit : prep veg and fruit snacks and have available at all times goal 3: by the end of this challenge, do not eat food that I do not prepare myself from scratch more than 1x a week (for me, this only means dropping some disgusting snacks like "twinkies, pretzels, and pizza") I had success at nf as an adventurer/ranger in the past, then had major surgery and had to slack off from exercise for recovery reasons; starting again as a beginner, best wishes and strength and determination to all! have to edit the signature etc and will get to that- I forget some of the ins and outs of posting to these forums
  3. finally back after many real life misadventures; starting again in level one rebels

Welcome back! I'd wondered where you'd wandered off to...

  4. whoa- let me know how XFit goes for you. I went years ago, got a meniscus tear, then quit...only now (like, 10 years later) have I had the courage to return. And now, I am way off the age curve for many of the activities and feel kind of goofy in the classes. I have to do work arounds for all the jumping, and could truly win the award for the slowest runner in the history of sports. So, I hit the rower (which I love) and am great at the core stuff. What I really want out of it is to be forced to sweat hard for 30 minutes and to build upper body strength. I am still working toward a pullup. Watch out on the handstands. Make sure they spot you and don't push you into anything that seems unsafe- tough on the shoulders and of course dangerous if you fall on an uncushioned surface. I have summer camp this week and I always have trouble getting to post much during these weeks. My sugar challenge is going well, in my terms, anyway. Much less, not zero. Same for carbs. The XFit crew eats like spartans, and I sort of just don't want to. Carry on.
  5. Sheesh, well, here I am, squad. ...rough start. Moved father to assisted living unit, tended nephews...the whole nine yards. Now I am home readying for my summer camp group next week....counting today as day 1, which means that personally I will have to extend the challenge into the "break week". Despite the stormy seas here, I have done pretty well with food. Today starts my no sugar challenge that I am doing with my oldest son's girlfriend. To start, I am dropping desserts (cookies, cakes, muffins, dairy). When I have this under control, I can take on things like dried fruit. For breakfast I had raisin bran, and I am wondering whether to count it as sugar, processed, both, or neither. ;-) Will report back after exercise.
  6. Thursday August 1; week off to distracting start, moved dad into retirement home, many challenges there Today can concentrate on diet and exercise: using Concept 2 daily email of WOD for home rower cardio variety today: Short 5 x 4 min / 1 min easy: 5 @ 4 min "level 7-8", 1 min "level 3-4"
  7. hooray, I am joining, too. Dropping processed (in boxes, packages) foods and sugar are my goals. Have to quit the pretzel snacks at 3 pm and the ice cream and cake desserts. Great to have a team.
  8. Thanks, I'll check in on your thread later in the week- have house company and then out of town committment. Thanks for the welcome, I'm psyched for this one.
  9. Crossfit is extra- Crossfit workouts are intense but short, 20 - 30 minutes. Goal is to get back the habit I used to have of a 30 minute bout of rowing, fast walking or biking almost every day. I could handle XFit a few times a week on top of that. Thanks for the snacking group- I will definitely check it out. Despite being so absent recently, I have been making great progress on the snacking...I have house company for a few days, but will head over to your thread very soon- promise!
  10. I have been with NF since January, succeeding more with fitness than food. This challenge I am working on food while maintaining fitness regime. I am OLD, but have started at our local CrossFit, which has been interesting. I'll spend some time reading up on your goals and abilities to see if I can fit in here. I've stayed in the adventurers until now, we'll see if I'm ready to be a ranger! Have a good day 1.
  11. hey Dominic! I jumped into the fray as a ranger. I had to spend like an hour reading the new rules! I'll see you around- I might have to patch up my thread, I deleted a bunch of stuff while trying to update my profile....guess it has been a while. I only have one more week of camp and one week of family camping, so with only 2 weeks of the 6 sort of off my regular schedule, I should be ok. I built in lower expectations for my camp weeks, so I can succeed better this time around. Can't wait to see what you are expecting out of yourself this challenge :-)
  12. main quest: lose total of 25 pounds so improving fitness is faster and more effective goals: 30 minute (minimum) cardio workout 5x/week usual; 2x/week during summer camp weeks Cross Fit workout 3x/week usual; 2x/week during summer camp weeks Diet- "natural"- no processed food, no sugar (goal has been in process for months) side quest: unassisted pullup life quest: try kayaking
  13. nice job with our challenge goals- I love your drawings; which one were you happiest with? I like the interior with the book case....
  14. we all wish we could come to the party! my dog Riley is quite jealous, his birthday, though, is on December 31, and it usually does get celebrated!
  15. TGIF at camp today, "water play" plan got flooded out; darned global warming. no workout except camp, plan to hit CrossFit tomorrow morning.
