  1. Hi! Quick rundown of what I am eating-- breakfast: a serving of Smart Start cereal with milk (approx 220 calories). (I am still working up to Paleo!) lunch: one chicken breast with a combination of 2 of the following-- half a zucchini, 5 or 6 florets of broccoli, Romaine lettuce salad with olive oil, and/or 6 asparagus stalks. dinner: one chicken breast with 2 of the above mentioned vegetables snacks: (a combination--not always all of these) turkey jerky, handful of nuts, a few raspberries, handful of frozen grapes, carrots and celery, hummus I put my calories for today-- I was feeling a little lightheaded today so I ate what I thought was more than usual-- into My Fitness Pal and it said I was eating too few calories and was below 1000. I'm doing the beginner body weight workout every other day, Zumba a few times a week, and some other exercise every day. Do you think it would be fine (or even better) if I started eating 1.5 or 2 chicken breasts for one or both meals, especially if I am hungry? I really do not like red meat and I hate eggs, so chicken is the main way I am getting protein it seems. Thank you for the help in advance!
  2. Hi! So two weeks ago I started working out again and trying to get in shape. It has only been in the past five days or so that I stumbled upon Nerd Fitness and all it has to offer. I'm a 5'6 1/2", probably about 160 lbs, 21 year old female. This started as me wanting to "lose weight" but has developed into me wanting to get strong, lose fat, and gain muscle. I always played sports in high school and I enjoy working out, but spending an hour on the elliptical really drives me crazy and I have never liked running. The first week of my "journey" to getting in shape, I did an hour long Zumba two days a week and did about an hour on the elliptical ("interval fat burn" setting) on the other days. On each of those days I did "light" weight training. I was eating much healthier, consuming a lot more protein and vegetables. But I was still eating grains and dairy. Since learning about "real" strength training and Paleo, I have changed my philosophy. The plan is (and I started the day I first heard about it) beginner body weight workout every other day with my Zumba class ~3 times a week because I legitimately enjoy it. I want to get into HIIT, and I plan to still do the elliptical sometimes but for less time. I am an unbelievably picky eater, so breakfast is really hard for me since I hate eggs, but I am trying to go as Paleo as I can at this point through easing into it. Right now, I am eating Kellogg's Smart Start for breakfast. For lunch, I am eating a chicken breast with any combination of zucchini, broccoli, yellow zucchini (whatever that's actually called), asparagus, and Romaine lettuce salad. For dinner, I am basically eating a different combination of the same things. The snacks I eat throughout the day are Paleo-approved, like nuts and vegetables and some fruit. This weekend I am going to see my brother who is very knowledgeable about weight training. I read Starting Strength and am going to have him read it to make sure he and I are on the same page, but I have asked him to go to the gym with me and show me around the weight room. The weight room at my college's gym is full of frat guys who intimidate me at this point, since I am not 100% sure what to do. Once I actually learn, I plan to start deadlifting, squating, etc. and I am really excited about it! Is there anything else you can suggest for me to do to lose fat and get stronger? Honestly any advice is appreciated. I just want to know that I am on the right track and am not completely missing something! Thanks so much!
  3. Help! So I am new to Nerd Fitness but I am trying to get into it, get strong, lose weight, and feel great (rhyme). I have been working out, and I feel good about what I am eating for lunch and dinner (basically chicken breast with lots of vegetables with fruit sometimes). But I am having a lot of trouble with breakfast. I have always been a picky eater-- not even in a "I'd prefer not to eat that" kind of way but a full out psychological thing. I don't know what to eat for breakfast! I always feel sick and have no energy if I don't eat a good breakfast, and just eating fruit doesn't do it for me. I HATE eggs. Just the thought of them makes me sick and it's been that way for 20 years. (I'm 21...) Also, I feel the same way about bananas (and yogurt but I guess that isn't part of paleo anyway!) which a lot of people have recommended. My whole life I've eaten cereal for breakfast. Right now I'm eating Kellogg's Smart Start. But unless I find a good, filling alternative I will probably not be able to go full paleo. Does anybody have any tips? Or are there any other super picky eaters out there who can weigh in? Thanks so much!
  4. Hi Nerd Fitness! I came across the Rebellion the other day, and I could not stop reading the articles and posts-- except to try the beginner body weight workout. Tuesday the 15th I got back to school after winter break and knew it was time to get back in the gym and eating right. Every day since then, I have been doing well! I have been doing Zumba classes, using the elliptical, the bike, etc. and I feel great when I finish a workout. Before I found Nerd Fitness, though, I had never really considered the importance of strength in losing weight. I always played sports in high school and was fit almost by accident. Then when I got to college, I drank waaay more and ate whatever I wanted in the dining hall. I am at least 20 pounds heavier than I was in high school. Sometimes I'd get into a health/fitness kick and lose some weight, but it never stuck. I am graduating in May and will be starting law school at Harvard in August. I want a new beginning. I want to feel good about myself and my body. I want to be strong and fierce. For the first time since high school, I'm not trying to get fit for any particular event. I have no deadline. The time is going to pass anyway, so I might as well give it my best every day. My goals for the week are to 1) do the beginner body weight workout every other day 2) keep eating right and try to each day get closer to a completely paleo diet even though it will be tough 3) keep going to Zumba and doing cardio-- not for the sole purpose of burning calories but because it feels good to sweat and I like feeling like I am doing something good for myself. I love the feeling of finishing a good cardio workout. Long term, I want to be strong. I want to be able to do a pull-up. I am not obese, and I am athletic to begin with. I want to kick ass! Hopefully losing the weight will come with getting stronger. I'm excited to join the Rebellion!
