  1. You'll have to forgive me, but since I haven't addressed our dietary concerns, you can cut the condescension. When I have a discussion about my eating habits, then you can come in and talk about my eating habits. But first, perhaps you should remember that jumping to conclusions about things people are or not doing based upon things they did not say is, well; it just is not cool. I don't expect this level of rudeness and judgment here. If this is typical, I'll find my way out.
  2. That's a big one for me. It's a mental thing. I'm not sure I can ever get over it, even if I'm always watching other people without judgment (well, the occasional holy eff. wow. intimidated! leaks out...) Part of my road to health includes loving me as I am, even if I want to be healthier. That means, they want to judge? Let 'em. I'm awesome.
  3. Hello Rossco! I'm 5'7" and 290, type 2 diabetic. I know I've got over 100 pounds to lose, so I am breaking it down into percentages. Right now, my goal is 10%, which is 29 pounds. A big thing for me is changing how I eat - I am committed to eating healthier (more primal than paleo as I still eat dairy) but I have to watch the side effects of that stupid Metformin. Too bad my medication cannot tell the difference between a healthy fat and a non-healthy fat . I've been inactive for at least a year, so I am not an expert but you can message me at any time. We all need people to talk to who understand!
  4. I am at 290 pounds. Way overweight - type 2 diabetic. We have done the basic cardio, especially since my doctor told me I need to work up to walking for 1 hour every day. Um, recently we've totally fallen in love with the Arc Trainer... We have also tried the 30 minute circuit workout, along with a full body workout. Here's what we are going to start doing: Stronglifts 5x5 on MWF along with 30 minutes of cardio plus 60 minutes of cardio on TTh (alternating between bike, treadmill, and arc) and outside stuff on weekends. Which might mean strictly chasing my dog around the yard for 10 minutes. I'm too fat for extended heat exposure. And where I am now is right where I started, with the added bonus of being able to DO cardio for 30 minutes, which is a feat. Last weekend, I got on a bicycle for the first time in at least 23 years, but I only lasted about 30 minutes. And no hills. So those are my goals: 10% body weight loss to start, and to be able to bike up a slight incline.
  5. I've never heard of this before, but I am restarting my training. Are you just using the 45 as an example for weight, or is that where I should start? I can do it; just want to check.
  6. Hello. I'm not new, but I sure haven't been here in like a year. And in that year, the only thing I have accomplished is to have not gained any weight. Awesome, but not awesome. Know what I mean? My husband and I are paying $40 a month for a gym that we do not use. I have to get back to it. I need help. And to talk to people who are dealing with the same things I am (more or less). I am a Type 2 diabetic - have been for a while. And the medicine isn't working all that well any longer. I do not want to go on insulin (frankly, I cannot as my insurance won't cover it). So here I am. A piece of clay. Ready for help with the remolding. I especially need help with the gym stuff. Love Planet Fitness but the personal trainers all tell you that cardio is #1.
  7. Oh, my husband and I are right there with you on this one! So far, we cannot complete even one set of the beginners body weight workout. But we're keeping at it. And I found a great 15 minute 'walk' program through our Cable On Demand that we're going to use on the days we aren't doing to body weight workout. It's hard, but I know we'll all appreciate the pay off in the end!
  8. These are such great goals. I can't wait to hear how well you did on this challenge! Your first goal is the same as my first goal, and your second goal absolutely inspired me to do the same. I hate the scale anyway!
  9. I am not sure I'll be jumping into the challenges right away. I'm apprehensive. And I have huge self-doubt issues. This is ALL a challenge to me.
  10. My twitter is @BeautifulSadist. My blog is http://spidergirlandtheboywonder.wordpress.com/
  11. So glad to see some goals so similar to my own! I decided I needed to quit the soda, so I started drinking flavored water. Now, I drink occasional teas, but plain water the rest of the time.
  12. Thank you for the welcome! Here is where I am: 271 pounds, 5'7", 37 years old. My husband and I recently started with the beginner's body weight workout found here on NerdFitness. Right now, we can't even complete one complete set. We've set a goal to complete one set within two weeks, two sets in four, and the three sets within six. It might seem slow to many, but we have been inactive for many years, plus I have a spinal injury that I try to avoid aggravating. We aren't jumping into the deep end with Paleo, but are transitioning slowly instead. I'm not sure either of us are up for a challenge just yet. I am checking out the unofficial mini challenges, though.
  13. Oh yes! Having a supportive spouse is such a key part of our success. I'm so glad my husband is joining me on our journey!
  14. I am not brand new here - I've been registered a week or two, but am just now posting. Am I the only nerd in the world who doesn't game? I had to get help from my husband on the character creation. Apparently, I'm an adventuring Water Elf. Regardless, here I am. Ready to start my journey and transition into Paleo. Little by little, step by step so that I can truly accomplish the journey of life. I suck at introductions. I don't know what to say. So, hello. I'm new here.
