  1. I actually don't drink a whole lot of beer, but it kills me forever I succumb to peer pressure when out, just enough to feel like I drink a good amount... I'm probably about 50% (with periods when I'm closer to 90%) paleo (except that dairy doesn't really bother me)... but I love ice cream and all too often tempted by fast food (mmmmmm that'll be good - and hyper-sugary) I'm absolutely psyched that I bought my guitar, almost on a lark, at a pawn shop a year ago and I've currently got from Queens of the Stone Age stuck in my head...
  2. Three days in, and other than a touch more fruit than I normally eat, things have gone pretty well! Later in the week is really going to be the problem... I get run down and ready for the weekend and lose discipline haha... Monday, day off - lunch and dinner good, snack later than normal (Bruins game and The Voice) - cheddar and 80% dark chocolate - mmmmmm! that was a surprise. I'll be having that again! Guitar practice went well - I generally used Justinguitar's Beginners Course, and decided to consolidate all that I've done to get back in 'playing' shape haha... didn't sound horrible! Oh, yardwork for some moving around... Tuesday, back to work! Strength workout before work, about 20 minutes to muscle failure - yes! Guitar practice after that, Stage 2... not sure about the planning, but I got it done Ate a nectarine and an apple at work (which is amazing since I've been called a 'nazi' for hating fruit... love me some raw veggies though Fasted until 2-ish (I like to intermittent fast on workout days - just feels better) Today, just finished guitar practice... truck day at work (I work in the produce dept. so lifting boxes of apples, onions etc.)... still good on food - ate a peach... steak and yellow squash noodles and mixed veggies... more cheddar and choc tonight???? So no grains, no processed food, 1 workout so far... 3/3 guitar practices
  3. Hi Bastet, Way to build a base for future - I really like your sleep goal! Good luck on building your upper body strength - I'm an upper body wimp myself
  4. Wow! That trip sounds awesome! Way to work towards it! I like the 'enjoy summer vacation' goal. My wife gets summers off also, and she tries to use them to get ready for school again... Have fun!
  5. Hey ToneTex - Happy summer! Good luck on the lift goals - and have a ball on the trip! You know where you're going - or ideas?
  6. Yay moleskin! I use the lined mini-notebooks (not sure exactly what to call them) for all my workout/tracking/note stuff... Kudos to some solid running goals! Maybe sometime... Good luck (and thanks for your encouragement and (hopefully) enjoyment of that song stuck in your head haha)
  7. Yesterday you reminded yourself of what not to do. Sound like success to me!
  8. Hi Gutshot! I've jumped in on the Dirt Worshiping Backpackers group, although it's been a couple years since I've 'backpacked'. Nice goals - good luck! Especially with dishes - they suck, even with a dishwasher involved! On the bright side, not as bad as laundry Sorry about your grandfather - hope he's still doing well... nice to see goo health paying off... Good luck with the C25K. I know there's various podcasts/playlists to help with the intervals, if that's your sort of thing.
  9. Sounds good... well, I don't always wear a backpack, but trails, and dirt and outside! OK! Funny, I've also been digging and fixing up our yard and garden, so.... haha I'm putting the group on the GoogleDoc under the Adventurers tab
  10. Nice goals! Especially the ukulele! Consistency is a problem for me as well. I like the average of 4 workouts, not like 6, 8, 11 per week haha... and as far as planks go, they suck! If I ever wanted a puddle of sweat, I'd just do a plank for 45 seconds... bleh Good luck!
  11. Yes, a bad reference to Foreigner's ... anyway, this is my first challenge! Still a bit nervous, 'cause now people are watching! YIKES! So I'm down with the Primal lifestyle, but have been lacking in execution . I have a fair grasp on what I want to do, but need some accountability to make it happen. Starting Stats: 5' 9" 238 lbs. 1) No Grains! Grains mess with me. Once I get started, I REALLY like them. Downhill slide like them... So, I don't eat grains... CON: 3, WIS: 1 5 meals with grains (or less) = A6-10 = B11-15 = C16-20 = DMore than 20 = FAIL Well, rice can be ok... this is really for wheat, oats corn, liquid bread, etc. 2) Unprocessed foods! While avoiding grains will go a far way, I have a super sweet tooth, and find my way through a half-gallon of ice cream, or some sugar confection WAY too fast. So, I don't eat processed food any more.CON: 2, WIS: 1 2 or less = A3 = B4 = C5 = DMore than 5 = FAIL 3) Consistent Workouts! I perform a body-weight version of the Body By Science Big 5, fairly regularly. I want to add some sprints/explosive endurance building to the mix. Given that I get lots of moving around from a good amount of yard work and I have a pretty physical job, I'm shooting for 2 workouts per week... STR: 3, DEX: 1, STA: 1 Miss 2 or less = AMiss 3 = BMiss 4 = CMiss 5 = DMiss more than 5 = FAIL 4) Practice guitar! Really practice!I've been kinda lax in actual practice/skill building with the guitar, really only noodling around for the last two or three months. I need 5 30 minute practices a week! WIS: 1, CHA: 2 30+ practices = A25+ = B20+ = C15+ = DLess than 15 = FAIL Oh, Go Bruins!
  12. Hey y'all, Found NF about a week ago, and am motivated! I'm a 39-year old (5'9" 250 lb.) store clerk in NC, and I'm looking to lose some bodyfat! I've sorta drifted in and out of a Primal diet (along with IF) for a couple of years, but have lacked motivation/willpower to carry it all the way . I've had some experience with weight loss through rapid, drastic change (military, living to India), but that change has been forced upon me - I can't manufacture the change on my own. So I'll step back a bit, gradually change and create some new habits! My short-term eating goals: - Only 1 meal out per week (long days at work make this tough, maybe IF can help some) - No fast food - No wheat I've also exercised, somewhat consistently, with a Body By Science/HIT routine. I've come to realize that I respond better to a higher volume, less 'failure-y' exercise program. I am a believer in basic lifts, so I like what I've read here. Again, I'll take a step back and do the 4-week Basic Training program out of the Strength guide... Going forward, hmm... I like weights, don't like gyms, and don't really want to get a bunch of equipment for myself... maybe I'll find I really like BW My exercise goals are: - Complete the Basic Training program - Add a fairly strenuous hike on one of my off days (leaving the rest, as work can be fairly strenuous) I really like what I've seen and the support shown in my week of lurking at NF... I figure I'm going to be a Ranger (maybe with a Warrior bent), as being a jack-of-all-trades is my, uh... trademark... ugh... I've always found that if I just show up to what I'm supposed to be at, be present for what I'm supposed to do, 90% of the time I'll do what needs to be done and give it my best effort... so I guess my battle really is to JUST SHOW UP Thanks for reading my book y'all.
  13. Hey Judicator, New here myself, and looking for some 'challenge-while-waiting-for-the-next-challenge' also - I really like your mini-challenge! Nicely thought out - may 'borrow' some ideas if that's ok!
